I've played several stringed instruments thru the years; I'm 68 mostly guitars and mandolin some banjo. Just started playing bass at my church about a year and half ago. I've had a few ahah moments in that time found your video very helpful, gave me a couple tips that'll be handy on Sundays thanks
I would love to see some videos of you going in depth on a commonly played song and talking through your approach to it - any pedals/effects, the fills you do, etc... I know you have done some tutorial videos, but I'd love to see some in depth looks that talk more than the basic chords and patterns.
I just subscribed. In this video, you taught me more about worship bass playing in six minutes fifteen seconds than I have learned in twenty years on my own. Great, informative video!
The main purpose of a bass player is NOT to be a distraction. If a congregation is paying attention to your playing and not on worshiping, something is wrong. BASS is the foundation, not the doors, windows, attic, landscaping etc. Critical but not out in front of everything.
Tip six is good for beginner players, but can be limiting. You can outline the chord with chord tones and chromatic passing notes without being busy. As long as you’re locked in with the drummer you can add color without being distracting.
I agree except for the keep it simple part. I mean it might sound a bit much if the guitarist is just strumming open chords but if he’s actually playing out, it’ll sound awesome. That overplaying baseline should be the standard in my opinion, it’s just way more interesting to me Also, Dat Pachbel tho
Locking into the kick is what is most important. Bass is just that. Not a banjo or lead guitar. Lots of bass playing in worship music is played on the hi hat not kick. Bass and drum!!!! Like pitcher and catcher. Foundation is key
If you are alternating between fingers and pick, where would you store your pick in the parts when you're playing with your fingers? There probably isn't enough time to put it in your pocket and fish it out again in the middle of a song. Is there anything to clip or affix a pick to the bass to temporarily store it - eg something that could go below the pickups or even attach to the one of the pickups?
You can slide your pick into the pick guard above the pickups. That's where I keep it. Personally, I only use a pick on the more upbeat songs, and for the most part, I use my fingers. That's just me, though.
@@Defendermax81 there isn't a specific thickness of pick for just bass... it all depends on the player and what they like the feel and sound of.. the best thing you can do is try several until you find one that YOU like
hi everyone ,if anyone else needs to find out about christian guitar video lessons try Skyarza Christian Guitar Star (just google it ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my work buddy got amazing results with it.
Hey! Jesus loves you! He died for your sins on the cross and rose again 3 days later! All you need to do to accept Gods gift is believe in him and what he did, And you need to repent(turn from sin and follow Jesus) and ask him for forgiveness in prayer. And remember that Jesus is God! He is three in one, the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit! Have a good day!:)
I love the simple tips that greatly increase the dynamics of the song. Bass can be powerful in contemporary worship.

I agree but you’re statement can’t be used as an excuse to not become an accomplished player. Fills walks etc done properly can be anointed.
beautiful.
@@dobrodave5453I agree.
You should post more of this videos, but also more of Synth Bass for Worship. You can be a pioneer on youtube for Worship Synth Bass
No!
I rebuke this.
Thanks for this very informative video. Recently switched to bass guitar on my church's worship team and I love it. Really going to try using a pick.
Dude i love the tone of your bass.

Totally agree. If you can do it without being distracting and always making sure to serve the song, then go for it! It's just a good rule of thumb 😎
Very well done! No time wasted; solid tips! Thank you!
Love saving notes, low and high, really adds that extra pizzazz to the start of a post bridge chorus.
Seriously one of the simplest ways to make an impact!
Thank you so much for these tips, so helpful! :)

Great video. Good reminders. Not a pick player but do move between the bridge and neck for tonal / attack / punchiness.
Thanks for all the tips and videos man, really appreciate it! keep it up! all the best from South Africa:)
Wat worship bass players really need:
*THINE HOLY SLAPPP*
I've been using a lot more slap lately
These r really good tips, in fact I use them myself but I had to learn them the hard way
Great job, your videos are really helpful. You got one more sub🔥
3:30 dudes over here playing the Rocks theme song for church 😂
I have many 6 string guitars and 2 bass guitars. Since I started to learn and play bass for worship, my 6 strings are collectors..... of dust!
In my opinion, the term 'warm' suits more than 'dark' tone.
Thank you.
Can you post a video how to add fills in worship bands
What do I do if our worship group doesn't have a drummer? Do I play melody with the Keyboard? I also sing Bass.
Thanks 👍

You earned another sub keep it up

thank you man!
What song is this? I really want to play it!
Also, what song is #6? I also want to learn that!
Pretty good advice bro. Any suggestions for bass players for dancy songs that already have a synth bass track?
extra class to play worship : 2 string Bass + 4 fret
Enjoy it
Can you elaborate on playing diamonds?
Yeah legit was like what's a Dimond, never heard that one before
Diamonds simply refer to playing a note for 4 beats, hence, diamonds having 4 sides
I assume it is a ref to the shape of a whole note in standard notation.
This is from Nashville numbers, where a bar of a whole note is marked by drawing a diamond around the chord.
Man just started playing square hammer by ghost at 1:45
just same chorus chord progression in a lot of songs.
It's a very common chord progression
Am I the only one who noticed that he his playing the baseline for “With or Without You”
Jesus that was helpful. Last tip was a slap on the wrist I just admit. The example about what you shouldn't do sounded like all my basslines.
GOOD GOOD
Which song is he playing?
I don’t pick my bass, but I do pick my nose.
With Or Without You
What kind of pick do you use?
Dunlop medium or hard (orange and green). Lately I've been using the green one more often than not.
@@WorshipBassTutorials I did some research and it said to use 1mm or 1.5 for bass is that similar.
@@Defendermax81 Dunlop Green is .88mm

I left after the pick came out
Can't believe I'm watching a bass guide where a pick is involved 😂
0:43 Davie504 fans are in shambles
what bass is this?
1978 American Fender Precision Bass!
Pick on a round wound string? Not my fave.
Naw, I’m on the wrong vid.
Lots of worship music doesn’t sound very good because there is no groove. Drums are all over the place and bass is not locked in
If a backing track is used then this video is “bass less!”
A lota bassists don't bear the drummer in mind when playing. 😂
I've been investigating christian guitar secrets and discovered a fantastic website at Worship Fixer Formula (google it if you are interested)

I just can’t stand the sound of a pick :/
You lost me at " pick" lol
Sorry IMO that pick sounds tearable
Pick near the neck, you're picking way far out
Another way to improve your bass playing is to throw your pick into the nearest trash can.
And forget about driving on side roads. Only drive on freeways. Huh? 🤔
@@brucewales5965 No. don’t drive on ANY road. Get your pilot’s license and fly, because bass players are above everyone else. 😬
