    The best way I found to resolve this question was to get both. Have been using the grendel for hog hunting. I like it on the AR platform.

    The 6.5 Grendel turned out to be a perfect round for my circumstances. Before a full shoulder replacement I hunted deer in Michigan with a .308 most recently having some 150-200 yd shots across fields. After the shoulder however I was not able to handle the kick of my AR-10, which I sold. Using a 5.56 is illegal for Whitetail deer hunting in my state,a bummer seeing I already had 2 5.56 AR-15's. Then I found the 6.5 Grendel upper could be used with my already owned AR-15 lower. The Grendel has plenty of punch to drop a deer at 200 yd with ballistics I am used to. It also barely kicks more than a 5.56 and MUCH less than the AR-10. A perfect gap fill between the 5.56 and the 7.62 x 51.

    6.5 grendel, with 140 rdf and 28 grains AA 2520 from my 18 inch match barrel runs 2300 fps at the muzzle 1644 energy and 1211 at 1000yds with 457 energy. No pressure signs. Love it in my small package AR 15

    I hunt with both a CZ 527 and a Howa Mini in 6.5 Grendel. My load is H335 behind a Nosler ABLR 129 grain bullet. The velocity is 2580 in the CZ and 2500 in the Howa. Last year I shot a medium sized 8 point Coues whitetail at 505 yards on the Mexican border in AZ. The deer was facing me at an angle and the bullet went in the shoulder and exited the off side around the kidneys. The deer walked 15 yards and fell over. The terminal damage was extreme. I shot a very large 8 point the year before at 485 yards with the 6.5 Creedmoor in a Ruger American Predator. That deer went down immediately. Both have their place but I do love these extremely lightweight Grendel mini rifles when humping around rugged mountains at 6000-8000 feet.

    I enjoy the 6.5 Grendel. It isn't Zeus's lightning bolt do-all, but works well on light game to 400 with proper ammo and shot placement.
    I am a big fan of 168gr+ 7mm Rem Mag for heavy critters.
    I use a 26" 168gr 308 for distance. That's simply because I learned long range with in the USN.

    Good review. I have both uppers for AR15 and LR308. I have CM in a bolt gun. The CM upper is 24 in and makes the LR308 platform a heavy beast. I would not want to lug it around and offhand shooting is tough. The Grendel is very mild to shoot and I may try it at one spot I hunt where the distances are not much past 200 yards. I will say I put three good shots on deer last year and they all ran a little. I’ve heard of people anchoring deer with the CM but I’ve not had that experience. There was devastation in the chest so there just must not have been enough of a power dump. I was using 143 ELDx hand loads at about 2700.

    Good video explaining the differences and characteristics of both. I just bought a Bear Creek fluted 18" and then found out two other guys at church have Grendels too. Have read about some break-in on the mags. Everyone of us that use the Grendel should be taking 5 minutes to call AND email service of the ammunition companies and SCREAM for ammo. It's the only way the ammo is gonna get back on the shelves any time soon. Lots of us are reloading, but to get it to the masses the producers have to feel the same pressure they felt over the common calibers!

    I want a creedmoor but just can’t justify it until I get invited on an elk hunt. Where I hunt, a long shot is 200 and an average shot is +/-50, which makes the grendel plenty for the job. That’s all before we talk about how, as a left handed shooter, I like semi autos and lever actions better or that you can just have the upper shipped to your door to slap onto another lower. I’m wanting a savage impulse in creedmoor, but need a reason… or more disposable income.

    For me the winner can only be 6.5 Grendel, as necessitated by shoulder surgery. And that’s with a semi-auto. A few years after that experiment I tried to help my son get ready for deer season so I got his 6.5CM “on paper”. I was done after 6 shots. Ouch! Anyway, last year I decided to put together an AR308 in 6.5CM and that worked out much better as long as I put the recoil pad more on my chest than on my shoulder. I’ll never be a precision shooter with it but I could manage. Post surgery I’ve had to adjust my priorities but I don’t really feel very undergunned, Grendel is a pretty slick round that I load to the highest velocity.

    Hello John and I have to give credit where credit is most certainly due. If I want to learn as much as I can about any hunting platform, your channel is where I first look. Although not my favorite cartridge, the 6.5 mm Creedmoor has to be the most efficient and forgiving for load development that I have ever owned. My daughter loves to shoot this gun and she is really enjoying experimenting in her own load development. Well I have a chance to purchase an AR-15 Grendel and it really looks as though it is quite forgiving as well as long as you keep it in it's distance bracket. This one will probably go to another daughter. But I greatly appreciate this channel and thank you very much!

    I have them all including .260 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor, and many 6.5 Grendels.
    What I found with the same bullet, same barrel length, the .260 Rem and 6.5CM hit the Grendel's mv at anywhere from 175-225yds.
    The question you have to answer is, does the added weight/bulk/recoil, muzzle climb off-target, and reduced brass life justify the additional performance.
    Sometimes the answer for me is yes, especially when I'm shooting farther and want higher hit probability from 800-1200yds.
    You can bite the heels of the Creedmoor with a 28" barrel and Extended Length Gas System, even shooting 140s.

    I disagree that the 6.5G “slightly” narrows the gap between 223 and 308. It’s really right in the middle between the 223 in terms of caliber, wounding capability, and downrange energy/wind drift. It’s not a “slight” improvement over the 223. It’s a remarkable one

    I really like my 6.5 Grendel AR and it sure has been an improvement overall in the AR15 as a battle rifle, the mags have a 25 round capacity and even though you lose 5 rnds of capacity the performance is worth it. If I were to hunt deer the Grendel would work but would feel a .243, 6.5 Creed or better would be more suited and for anything bigger such as Elk or Aoudad you really cant beat a 28 Nosler...

    i own both and have hunted white tail and wild hogs with both. I much prefer the 6.5 Grendel i really don't know why but i have found with the grendel everything i shoot drops in it's tracks and with the 6.5 Creedmore we usually have to track the animal. With that being said i have never lost an animal with the Creedmore they usually drop within 100 yards. My longest kill was with the grendel at 408 yards on a 190 lb buck and he dropped right where he stood. Another big advantage to the grendel i find is recoil i hunt with an AR and my son is a small kid so having the versatility of a adjustable stock is great and the low recoil allows us to hunt together with only one rifle.

    Any thoughts on 6.5 grendel and 6mm arc? 6mm arc looks good on paper but ive heard accuracy is struggling out of the ar-15 platform which it was touted to be designed for. biggest thing holding me back on grendel is lack of velocity when shooting 123 gr pills. anything smaller than 123 gr the BC seems to suffer.

    • @djl5634
      @djl5634 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go grendel. Highest bc 6arc is 108gr Hornady a tip.velocity 2670fps. Bc .536. 6.5grendel has Federal Gold Medal Match Berger with a bc of .560 130grn at 2550fps. A Much better hevier higher bc bullet moving just as fast. And wolf and ppu makes cheep ammo for 6.5. grendel it's better to use the heavy bullets. They perform better on target at range than any 6arc. 6arc is just a Hornady hype cartridge that does nothing better. But Hornady hypes it like it's some new majic.

    • @djl5634
      @djl5634 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also grendel has over 30 companies making it 6arc has 1. Grendel is a better 556 308 replacement. 6atc is small game cartridge in my opinion. It also isn't popular in Europe like PPUammo and Sellior and bellot ammo. Serbia adopted it militarily. Russia makes arms and ammo for it. Psa is going to continue steel cased ammo production on 6.5grendrl.

    Love my 6.5 Grendel AR15, by CMMG. They use a robust BCG to account for the robust power of the round. I've had zero issues with mine.
    Word to the wise, use a heavier buffer weight and stiffer spring in your buffer tube or the recoil/kick will do a number on your shoulder and follow up shots will be difficult.

I do hope howa mini actions do allow for 6mm arc they are only weigh 5.7 pounds and come 20 inch barrel with heavy barrel for longer strings of fire when varmint hunting. 6.5 Grendel rocks. Especially now that the government is going away from the 5.56.

    Which one should you use ? Answer : BOTH ! . LOL

    Between these 2 ? Neither. No need to go smaller than 7mm. I mea n the Grendal lags the 243. Makes it a non-starter.

    • @Thebiggamehuntingblog
      @Thebiggamehuntingblog  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but the 243 also won't function in an AR-15, which is the whole point of the 6.5 Grendel...

    Neither. 6.5 x 55 because it is accompanied by a fantastically crafted rifle. The Swedish Mauser M 1896. Not this trash that modern shooters use like cheap AR 15's.
