Fascinating podcast - great descriptions. Thank you. I also only had Rose Coombs' wonderful guide with me on my first pilgrimages in the 1980s, so this really takes me back😊
Thank you for a great Podcast. I have visited the Somme many times and intend to continue visiting the area. Each time I learn more about the Battle and long may I continue to do so. Thank you again
For any Canadians interested in understanding the Great War, I always recommend Canon Scott’s autobiography called “The Great War as I saw it “. Scott’s description of Vimy Ridge is a must read, the places mentioned still exist. Scott had a “hall pass “, although officially ordered to stay at headquarters, picture a padre on horseback, laden with a bag of hymn books, accompanied by his trusty dog, heading once again for the frontlines.

Yes, it was very much the ‘bible’ in those days!

Good call - it’s an excellent book and Scott gets a mention in this podcast.
