He has been easily my favorite performer since I was a teenager in the 70’s. Then when Andy died I was watching tv with my grandparents. Then my grandfather says casually that Andy’s dad is his 2 nd cousin and I almost died. Wish I had known earlier.
If only Andy knew how he still touches lives. He has managed to bring smiles to our faces even in this perilous time. I wish his passing really was a hoax so we could enjoy him just a bit longer. When he coughs it saddens me knowing this was the onset of his cancer. I hope he is at peace, and having fun entertaining the Angels.
that's what i'd wish for him too. I was born three years after his death and didn't know anything about him for the first 20 years of my life. Now I consider him a personal hero.

Elvis always said that the one imitator he liked the most was Andy Kaufman. He was a comic genius,a good actor (Taxi) and a terrific singer. So, so unfair he was taken so young.
Undefeated champ of intersexual wrestling. A record no one will ever beat. This almost ruined his career but he didn’t care and always stayed in character. People in the south wanted to kill him but he never wavered. Also the whole Tony Clifton being hired on Taxi! It’s just brilliant. Bob Zumuda also deserves much credit here too. We sure lost a gem when we lost Andy. Like Elvis gone way before his time. Ps. Elvis was have said to have loved Andy’s act and was his favorite ETA.
I'm from the south and when he did that video about Jerry Lawler being from "Meeaaamfiss" and how he was from Hollywood deserving some respect, I thought that was hysterical. Even today when I watch it I burst out laughing out loud even when I'm by myself.
Life is a riddle(RTL) and here is the answer, respect is the foundation which blooms into trust that fathers loyalty. Loyalty has toppled kingdoms and built them.
My first job. "Dad I can work at Willie's No.3 a burger joint down the street" Dad, why?. My answer."Money for girls of course!! " So I was taught to make custom arrows in the family Archery Shop. Cajuns Archery. A new skill at 14! I was wise about my $. I spent a lot on motorcycles I raced, The rest I blew on chicks, booze, grass, and carefully crafted alibis! C'mon it was the 70s and life went by like pantys behind a pool hall in summer. Don't judge me, you weren't there! 😂
@bigtime474 No one will judge you because you were young in the 70s and had fun. 🥰 I was also young in the 70s but on the other side of the planet. I didn't know about Andy Kaufman until 4 months ago. Too bad; how I would have loved to have seen him live. 😿
@@issy_b_onair 😻 I'm surprised! 😺 Many people I knew back then would have preferred to live in the future. Here are the famous comedians that were inspired by Andy Kaufman to be comedians........ Robin Williams (appeared on TV two years after Andy started), Jim Carey, John Belushi, Will Ferrell, Sacha Baron Cohen that saw old video of Andy in England, Pee Wee Herman that created his kind harmless character after seeing Latka on Taxi being a harmless guy with a funny voice and this one will come as a surprise but Robert DeNiro was inspired by Andy to make the movie called The King Of Comedy which was a character that used to have a comedy show in the basement of his house by acting weird and assuming every joke he made was funny. Some people thought it was about Jerry Lewis and the character DeNiro plays says it's about Jerry being the inspiration. But, it was Andy who inspired DeNiro to do this weird character that was mentally in his own world.
Lip-synced, too. As far as Tiny goes, he and I were good friends for a few years in the '80s and I assure you, he was far more talented than he gets credit for.
I could only imagine the havoc Andy is putting the ghosts through that are near him now in 2020. Andy is probably imitating other ghosts and impersonating election ballot counters. Then Andy starts fights with the ghosts of the midgets from the Wizard Of Oz that are tagged teamed with women while retaining his championship belt for wrestling midgets, women and small children.
He must have thought it was hilarious that people just went along with all this stuff or didn't get it. I guess cause half the time he wasn't breaking character so he confused them.
I think he really enjoyed the manipulation of the audience, creating an almost Brechtian disassociation or alienation with the crowd. They got really pissed off sometimes as well. It took me ages to figure out what he was doing when I used to see him on SNL. Check out Stuart Lee, if you want to get really surreal.
I think Tony Clifton was born in 1937. I remember making the connection between this a long time ago. Comics that have characters like Andy with Clifton and Baron Cohen with Borat and even ventriloquists with their puppets frequently talk about the liberty they feel doing things in character because it’s not them doing it.
Yeah, '49 sounds right. He used to come over to our student apartment since he was friends with one of my roomates before he started getting noticed. He was maybe four or five years older than us. He was nicely weird back then, even.
i'd be curious to know how much cocaine the wolfman demanded, just to pretend he was interested in Andy, and put up with his act? (it was a little over the wolfman's head/toupe'!)
