I really love these VW engine designs. I have 3 GTI's with VR6's and a Passat with a W8 engine. They aren't the most crazy engines out there, but the cool design just gets me goin! Probably good yours doesn't have the W12... pretty expensive engines to maintain! Good find there feller!
Potentially for sale for £5000 when finished. I would buy one of these every time over a cheap crappie Dacia. What a descent motor it will be when done
That and it's a shame they're such a money pit to run. Sometimes uncommon cars go cheaply because people forget about them despite being good cars (IMHO my Volvo S80 is one of these)... Sometimes they go cheap because they're prone to being painfully expensive to keep on the road - unfortunately these are very often the latter. Would make a great car for a decent mechanic (pro or amateur) who has another car too, perhaps...
One of the finest guitarists this country has ever produced. His mum lives near me & he was visiting her when she had her boiler serviced. The heating engineer had no idea who he was either! 🤦
What a STUNNING car! Ahead of it's time with Bluetooth etc (it is after all a 13yr old car) hence why I stated ahead of it's time. Simply beautiful. Wow loving it even at this stage ie before you carry out any works. I do hope you get this car in full working order even down to those front cup holders. I have seen or heard of that until this video ❤️💕❣️💓😍😍😍😍 Lisa UK
Those torches were an optional accessory for all models, they came in loads of different colours, the red/yellow and blue ones are really sort after ((they still have a white led light but a different coloured "case" , i had a red one on my old mk3 polo i used to display at shows (very very sad!)
25:10 you're right, it is not supposed to blow warm air at you ^^ The Phaeton blows its air draft-free and without you noticing. Thats why there is the switch in the middle, if you wan't air with a temperature to blow at you, you can set it up there
Remember being maiden bidder on a Phaeton ten years ago out of BCA Bedford… auctioneer went are we £4000 (then drop to £2800 and spin it up) stuck my hand in the air at 4… and bought it 😂 wasn’t that old at the time 3.0v6 petrol early car fwd it was mint
Well you are a lucky chap!We have a 15 year old V8, which followed a B5 Passat V5 estate. If you look carefully you will indeed see design resemblances to the Passat B5, but to call the Phaeton a bloated Passat is a wee bit red car blue car one expects from the average lady car seeker! Look at the C pillar, the three quarter view back over the left hand front bonnet, this is discreet but sheer elegance, sorry. And were you to visit the glass factory in Dresden you would appreciate the genius of Ferdinand Piech, who brought the VAG to its apogee before he left and diesel gate came crashing down. This is a car to put MB and BMW in the shade when you examine the design in depth, the fit and finish. The best saloon car in the World!
There is another TH-cam channel ( I won’t mention it’s name) where the guy buys used cars and tells you all about them and he said he would never buy one of these because the parts I.e windscreen are impossible to get hold of.
Looks like a Bentley key. Not too sure who would of purchased this car from new when you have the option of Mercedes S class, bmw 7 series and my favourite Jag xj 350 series Anyway when they first came out my boss had one on loan as we worked in the automotive industry and was not that impressed then Given the choice for cheap large luxury barge I’d go for the Skoda superb as I love the umbrella in the door feature Great vid and keep them coming
Nice comfy money pit. All looks a bit 2003 ish though in and out. Love you are so focused on the cupholders and torch when there will be way more juicy expensive problems to be found! Good luck thou 👍
£615 annual Road Fund cost is the issue, your buyer demographic at this price point could well be a person receiving a disability benefit which includes road fund exemption for a vehicle they use or is used on their behalf
"Road Fund" was scrapped in 1937. Today it's "Vehicle Excise Duty" based on the pollution it spews out. Roads are funded out of council tax these days.
These sold very poorly, only about 2,200 units in for only a few years (2004-6) in the USA/Canada and very expensive to fix when need work, especially the W-12 engine models. Allegedly the history for this model was an ego trip by the then head of VW division who wanted a VW branded high luxury model, so very much different from its original cars. Basically was a VW badged Audi A8.
Car Vertical ads are so annoying, don't really see why this channel needs sponsorship. Can't cost that much to produce the vlogs. Decent content apart from that
Too many silly gadgets to try to compete with the S class and 7 series, then nobody would pay 60k for a Volkswagen.Paid 5500 for a V6 petrol one several years back it was a nice thing to waft about in,then I get an E38 740i which I wish I still had......
Should called Phamton!worse car I have owned! Had to take engine out three times ,air conditioning, whole electric collapse, many more VW paid for some costs!
Add £250 to your overall purchase cost and give it to someone to take it away. It will be the lowest cost you will have with this car. Take it from someone who has been there. 🫣
PUBLIC APOLOGY TO MARK KNOPFLER!! 😅 Dire Straits was probably the most played band in my childhood home so I should have known better! Rock on Mark 🤘
He is happy to go unnoticed.First CD I got was Brothers in Arms, and so did 20 million others.Superb album.

Dacia it is crappy, but not cheap!
I own a 2004 VW phaeton 4.2 and I love it because it's such a great car
its such a shame this car didnt sell when new, because this could’ve been such an awesome motorway cruiser, and luxury car to own. love your vids ❤
That and it's a shame they're such a money pit to run.

Audi was better and about the same price. New.
Nice car! I think the Phaeton is a future collectable. FYI Mark Knopfler OBE is the co-founder of Dire Straits.

Yup. A Bentley key one of former owners obtained. The VW key for Phaeton wasn’t this kind/type !!!!
BMW have the same hot and cold dial to control the heat or cold flow from the vents
Please do not forget the cup holders. ;) m
Wheel on the back is Audi a1 alloy

The point of Car Vertical is to do the check before you buy it, not afterwards 😉😁
Haha, fair point!

Mate "Who is Mark Knopfler". Come on, check out the Dire Straights album Brothers in Arms. You will never look back..
I love Dire Straits to be honest, just didn’t know the name!

Mark knofler was in a band called dire straits
£615 Tax kills these on the used market, Didn't sell new for a reason.
Look at car ,plane remote batteries same as batteries for car alarms
Long-distance cruiser! 1.200 km on one tank of diesel in great comfort. A bargain for that money

What are you smoking!?
@@mihaelacodrescu6153 It's probably an old VW that is smoking!
Very good matey
The more discerning gentleman driver 😂
Looks like the small wheel comes from a VW Passat CC?
What a lovely car. May I know where is your location Sir?
A big money pit…1750 sterling is just the first instalment. The parts to maintain would be another story.
Nah, that’s nothing. It’s the tax that’ll drain you! 😂
You get the same headlight wash order in a mk4 mondeo.
I didn’t know that!
tweeters on the front doors don't work, only dynaudio...
Car Vertical ads are so annoying, don't really see why this channel needs sponsorship. Can't cost that much to produce the vlogs. Decent content apart from that
A Bentley for the poor man! The key will be a Bentley key. It will be amazing once it’s had your magic on it
Classy car drive like a Rolls Royce or Bentley
That's a bentley continental key
Anyone else sick of car vertical😂
Car vertical is far too expensive. There are better and much cheaper alternatives !
The cheapest ones are the most expensive ones.
You got this car unbelievably cheap.
VERY expensive VW new £40K??
more like £50K+
Too many silly gadgets to try to compete with the S class and 7 series, then nobody would pay 60k for a Volkswagen.Paid 5500 for a V6 petrol one several years back it was a nice thing to waft about in,then I get an E38 740i which I wish I still had......
Whoever he is. Dear Lord. Maybe sd a few songs
I love adore Straits, just didn’t know old Mark by name 😬😂
Should called Phamton!worse car I have owned! Had to take engine out three times ,air conditioning, whole electric collapse, many more VW paid for some costs!
A lot of car for the money
Why was this MOT'd twice within in two months?
Is wasn’t meant to be MOT’d yesterday. We left it at the MOT centre when collecting another car and they tested it 🤦🏼♂️
@@ShiftingMetal Cheers, I was just curious, they're lovely cars but the tax is really off-putting.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🚘
First lol 😂
Mark Knopfler is of the Dire Straits band.
