    Tom, Wednesday fan here, firstly as always what an atmosphere, proper old school club, with genuine fans. As we found last season the step up from Division 1 is arguably as big as the jump into the premiership. The championship is arguably the most competitive league in the world. There is no easy game and last season we were both short within the squad and tactically inept. Yesterday the first half as it went you looked good press was there, another game a couple up. The difference is Danny changed the formation and started to play more direct and you failed to change to match. Keep the belief, keep fratton rocking and hopefully the team learn to win ugly, get through this season and build. Look forward to seeing you all at Hillsborough.

    Tom, you’ve done extremely well here in the circumstances. You’ve established yourselves here on this channel as an emotional thermostat for this fanbase and your post match comments with Dan hit the spot again for me. I think you’re Dad is fantastic Tom, and I always value his positivity, but I don’t think the gravity of the situation we are in has perhaps landed with him yet. Had we seen anything to suggest we are any better than relegation material, I’d be more in inclined to empathise. Perhaps things will change, and we all hope they do - but the squad is not good enough, neither does it have enough about them. Play up Pompey and well done as always Tom.

    Hi Tom, never give up. Look at where we were this time last year(Sheffield Wednesday 12 0 3 9 5 19 -14 3) We never looked like winning, We never looked like a team. All you want from your team is to leave the field giving it 100% lose or draw you can forgive if they have given it their all. At 65 I've seen some good years at Wednesday, but I have to say that I'm losing my love for football with all of the play acting, cheating, bad Ref's. I mean when did the shoulder become HANDBALL!!! ffs Players going down holding the face/head as they know it will stop the game, yet replay shows he never got touched... Needs look at & bans/fines given to players that con the Ref. Rant over. All the best for the rest of the season.

Shout out to the Wednesdayites, Friday night, live on Sky, but always turn up despite being crap for the last 25 years. Game 67 this in all competitions since we last had a penalty, last one was play off 2nd leg against Peterbro, up the Owls FTB.

    Tom I’ve been a subscriber since the early days of the channel. I’ve seen the rise since you were in League Two. The Championship is tough. We (Donny) managed 4 successive seasons in the Championship around 10 years ago but we had a lot more investment than we have now. Not to divert away from Pompey but look at Donny right now we’ve gone from pushing for the top 2 in League One in 2021 to losing Darren Moore to Wednesday & ending up in League Two struggling to stay in the EFL the other year. This is our 3rd season in League Two. It’s tough seeing your team struggling each week but things can get only get better for a club your size.

    Another excellent analysis Tom and team. We're playing in the wealthiest non-top-flight football division in the world, the ninth-richest division in Europe, and finding it hard because the standard is so high. Watched the game on Sky TV, the Owls were by a country mile the better footballing team in the second half. Credit to DR, he made some smart changes at half-time and Pompey couldn't keep up. Do we have good enough players, yes; do we have enough of them, not so sure. I'm not calling for managerial change but I do hope the coaching staff are taking advice, analysing how to survive and implementing clear and simple direction to a team that looks shot of confidence. The narrative was spot on, if we can play with passion, endeavour and commitment then we will willingly cheer them all the way back into Div 1 if that is the outcome. I don't see the owners splashing cash in January and neither should they. If we are a club whose long-term financial plan means that for the next few seasons we are a Div1/Championship team, so be it. I'd take that over the nightmare of the transfer embargos, administration etc. PUP!!

    Fantastic channel. Compelled to watch. Forest fan here. I actually think you are a little too negative. Understandable but the champ is an epic season. When we were promoted from league one after three year absence (2009), we found it as tough and had a similar record. Changed the manager in December - calderwood to Davies and ended up pulling ourselves clear. All Pompey need to do is stick with it, I think it’s inevitable you do change manager and have no doubt you go on a run. There are many poor teams above and the moment you start a run, the team will start to feel like they are a champ team. Stick with it

    • @DavidWilson-yr6mc

      Appreciate the kind words about the videos. I think a manager change is unlikely to happen, and rightly so. As I said in the post-match stuff there is nothing to currrently indicate or hint to an uptick in form and results, and that for me is the most worrying thing and why I come to the conclusion that we are in big trouble. We will stick with it and we will keep fighting and supporting, and just pray that we see an improvement. Thanks for watching.

    Unfortunately, what i said on your first video of the season when you came to Leeds has come true, its ok raising the intensity against the top teams in the division, but its these types of games along with others where you've lost or dropped points that are seriously costing Portsmouth. The intensity needs to be consistent, but you boys already know that.
    Still wishing you luck for the rest of the season, good vlog, i enjoy your enthusiasm.

    There were elements of positivity (taking the lead) but we came out second half looking to play for time & defend the 1-0 lead. We need to stop giving the ball away and be stronger, more direct. We need all our battling players in the pitch. Players like Saydee & Yengi. There is still time to get it right and in truth their second goal was a wonder strike.
    Thank you for bringing the atmosphere into our homes again. Another great Vlog with honest summary. Faith kept there”s still time. #PlayUpPompey

    Hey Tom, another Wednesday fan here, from Florida...
    I was much worried after Smith netted one, making the score 1-2, with 20+ minutes on the clock. Wednesday has lost more than a few matches, over these past few Seasons, in the closing minutes, even seconds.
    Portsmouth didn't look all that bad to me, there were a couple of dangerous shots on goal from Portsmouth, which went over the bar, during the last ~20 minutes of the game.
    Before the Season started, a lot of people were thinking that Oxford would be where Portsmouth is now, and that Portsmouth would be where Oxford is now. To my mind, there's no lack of quality Players at Portsmouth, it is very difficult to understand just why Portsmouth is not standing securely in mid-table....Happy for Jack and Oxford though.
    Lot of football yet to be played, and a lot of things will change, and I think Portsmouth will stay up.

    Hey Tom, I’ve been watching this great podcast for a few years from North Carolina. Have been a Pompey fan since the early 80s and living in Gosport. You and the crew are excellent, and keep the rest of us connected to Pompey. I know these last number of games have been gut punches and really hard to maintain objectivity when you care so passionately about this club and all it means. Hang in there and keep doing what you do. You give voice to all of us who can’t get to games and we are with you and support you. The Pompey fighting spirit will prevail, although sometimes it’s really hard to keep believing that. Remember, we still have a club and there is more to come. Will try and say hi in person when I get over to a home game before the end of the season. Play Up Pompey!

    To me your key comment was ‘you can’t press in one’s and twos or you will get turned over’. Sheffield Wednesdays pressed as a TEAM. They defended as a team, they attacked as a team. They had 80% possession in the first 20 minutes of the second half - as an away team! That is why they took control at that time. Their first goal was a risky attempt at playing offside, which failed. There is not much that can be done about a ‘worldie’ for the second goal - once it left his foot - but why was Smith left in so much space to run into, unchallenged, on the edge of the box? They were able to caress the ball to their available team mates who all sought space once in possession. We treated the ball like a hot potato with two notable exceptions.

    • @andrewstretch1251

      @@andrewstretch1251 Thought that about all the Pompey players; not really aware of what was going on & where the other players were for most of the second half.

      @PeterMMcGarry 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You are right of course, but a better structure, shape, whatever, to the team when pressing or when defending leaves players feeling more secure in their jobs and increases confidence when they are sure about what they are doing and the whereabouts of their team mates. The same applies to when we are in possession. Also, quality of deliveries into the box (assuming the first man is cleared!) and keeping shots down and on target wins games. It all comes with confidence. None of us doubt the abilities of this current group of players.

  • @andrewpeace756
    @andrewpeace756 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    Tom, a really excellent vlog. No one wants to watch Portsmouth lose week after week especially as the feel good factor of your videos is not only dependent on your excellent positivity, balance and critique but also on Pompey having a half decent season. Unfortunately, as you say, the omens aren't looking good for this season.
    As I see it , three things have changed since last season. Firstly, and in my opinion quite correctly , it was identified that last seasons squad were off the pace to survive in the Championship. Secondly and unfortunately, we failed to purchase or sign on loan any players that improved the squad. In fact I think this seasons team may be worse. Finally, John Mousinho's lack of experience in the Championship is costing us dearly. Last season, when we were one of the better teams in Division 1, we managed to control the ball even if it was slow at times by having Pack and Morrell sitting deep together with Robertson providing the creative output. Last night against Championship opposition we basically had Potts and Dozzell in midfield who were completely overrun and outplayed by Bannan and his Wednesday teammates. These large gaps in midfield were also obvious in the games at Stoke and Cardiff. It will be interesting to hear your debrief tomorrow !

    I'm not one to start calling on a managerial change usually. I still think Mous is a great manager, but at what point do we have to change something? Aside from a new manager we can't really do much else until January and even then our squad is pretty big despite all the injuries.
    It's evident we don't quite have the quality to play the way we did last season. So we end up trying to go long and just throw possession away all game. It's painful to watch

  • @DavidSmith-cx8dg
    @DavidSmith-cx8dg 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    I can't fault the effort the players put in and we maybe deserved a point from the game . Lang , Murphy and Devlin were our best but it has to be said we have had to fight to close a gap in quality , speed of thought and deed in every game we've played so far . If only Michael Smith could have done that for us - a great strike . It's not hopeless , I've seen us turn things around with an unexpected player stepping up or a bit of luck in this division in the past and it's important to keep the faith . Thanks for another great video Tom .

    I said before the game this would be our benchmark, Sheffield came down struggling to score goals and on a poor run, i think even to the most devoted happy clapper its plain to see this squad does not have the ability to compete at this level, i blame mr hughes and mr eisner for our pound shop quality squad, we have maybe 5 players that are up to the level required, thanks for the vlogs Tom im now worried that even if the boss was to get serious in january it may be too late!

    Regarding the team/ squad, I believe they are good enough to avoid relegation especially with a couple of additions in jan, the issue is with mous, being stubborn with system and player's, the way I see it he has about 5 or6 games to turn it round and luckily for him they are winnable.

    I have to say the winning goal was superb but I thought we were awful defensively and it's the story of the season. Defence seems to think we're playing in league 2 and can have more time.
    Sky showed a stat during the game saying we have thrown away the most points from winning positions this season.
    Last season we kept conceding first but found a way to come back and get wins or draws
    This season this team just do not seem to have the confidence or the ability to take hold and control a game.
    Can we control games in this division? No I don't think so and that's what's going to really hurt us.
    Some of the passing and dithering on the ball was so naive it was shocking.
    Absolutely gutted with the result and I personally can't see any light to suggest the players have the ability to come together and turn this around.time will tell but let's be honest.... It's looking grim

    Hi Tom, as Always another brilliant video,
    Mate don't get too downhearted with where you are in the league.
    It's just consistency needed as in some matches you have more than matched the teams.
    But defensively it's just not right, they are making it to easy to cut through them.
    There's still three quarters of the season to go, and plenty of time too put things right.
    Looking forward too the live show tomorrow.
    Keep up the Outstanding work you're doing mate.
    Keep the faith and as always play up pompey

    • @jowiseman740

      You've hit the nail on the head there. This is down to the summer transfers which has left us playing in the Championship with a worse team than we had in League One.
      Tonight we started the game with a guy in central midfield who played for Wycombe last season and a striker who had never scored a first team goal in English football when he signed.
      Rich Hughes and the Eisners have made a complete mess of this and expect Mousinho to work some kind of miracle with players that are nowhere near good enough. Given how weak our squad is, Mousinho has actually done a very good job to even make us competitive in some games this season.
      That said, why is Yengi not starting? Ritchie and Kamara are barely getting a kick either. Why bring in players and not even give them a start? I think the pressure is getting to the manager a bit and he is making some strange decisions of late.

    I'll fucking simplify it for you. Run the channels, get to byline and cut it across goal. 1 in 3 takes a deflection, gets a tap in or earns us a corner. Kamara used to do this but also had the ability to cut inside and SCORE. We don't have that goal threat anymore so time to change or predictable patterns. Any time the crowd is on their feet is when this situation happens.
    Our main issue is we only have 1 player capable of 10 goals a season that is currently fit (Lang) He will also get snapped up in January if something doesn't happen within the next week management/coaching/recruitment. We miss Bishops input massively right now and that is another difference between picking up some points or hold out for a win.
    Another mention that is clear to see is Mcintyre isn't a two in the middle CB pairing, you can clearly see he is a back three defender. Maybe it is time to go three at the back and at least stop fucking conceding in some games till we find our feet. Once we fix that then maybe hope to score on counters using the width which creates goals and chances. How many teams in this league are playing through the middle? not many. You can't do it at this level, the players don't have time and if they do then they probably deserve to play the league above.
    Finally Yengi and Saydee we need more goals from you lads, the raw ability is there. Now is the time that it is needed. PUP

    That isn't a football team. Just a rag tag bunch of headless chickens who have never heard of possession. Without the spine of Bishop, Shaughnessy and an on form Pack and Norris we can't survive. It's shocked me how strong the Championship is compared how it was when we were perennially in the division in the 90s and early 2000s. The gulf is huge. Breaking up the promotion team was a bad idea.Neither Derby or Oxford did this.
