According to Jesus at Matthew 25:31-46 and Matthew 16:27 we do indeed need good works for salvation. Or take the rich man in the Lazarus/rich man parable. The rich man had faith----after all he called on his spiritual father Abraham, didn't he?-----but he lacked the good works of feeding the poor so God sent him to Hell .

Well.... actually, Trinity is very hard to imagine let alone understand. Well.. if God's appearance were to be understood, we might know His power. But we don't really know how He looks like, definitely shows that He is indeed very powerful and capable of doing things we might've never thought. But Trinity basically means that The Father, Son and The Holy Spirit are three different persons but they are one and there is only one God. God Bless You!
The tinity isn’t hard to understand. You just have to use analogies or representation. I’ll give three, the first is stages of water, liquid, solid, gas. Another would be the U.S governmental system. @@donjon2023 You and those around you might be an exception to the general rule, but the truth is most Catholics don't know the gospel, don't know who God and Jesus truly are, and don't know the Bible. And also, many aspects of Catholic doctrine are in direct contradiction with scripture. Catholicism clings to traditions and doctrines that emerged centuries after the apostles had died and have little to none base in scripture, many of which can be linked to roman pagan tradition, like praying to dead saints, and others that were actually considered as heresy by the early church, such as Mariology. I had been a Catholic for 26 years before I got saved, grew up in a Catholic home, went to a Catholic school, even the university I went to was Catholic. And in 26 years of Catholicism, I was never encouraged to read the Bible, I was never taught what the gospel really is, I was never taught what Jesus' death on the cross truly meant, end times prophecy was never mentioned, nothing on spiritual warfare, nothing. Not even when I did my first communion, nor when I did my confirmation. Just so you can imagine my ignorance back then, I even thought the Bible was like a calendar or an agenda where it showed which readings were supposed to be read each day at mass. You're right, I should have had interest in reading the Bible. But it should be the church's responsibility to teach the Bible and to teach who Jesus really is in the first place. And that's something the Catholic church rarely does.

If any one shall say, that man may be justified before God by his own works, whether done through the strength of human nature, or through the teaching of the law, without the divine grace through Jesus Christ; let him be anathema. Canon ii. If any one shall say, that the divine grace through Jesus Christ is given only unto this, that man may more easily be able to live justly, and to merit eternal life, as if, by free will without grace, he were able [to do] both, though hardly and with difficulty; let him be anathema. Canon iii. I am not clear what your stance is so I am only replying to clarify the verse referenced not to assume you see it differently. Not everyone who says Lord Lord... Saying I believe in Jesus with only my words doesn't mean I believe it in my heart and have accepted His free gift of Salvation. I would also include verse 22- On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Notice here Jesus says I NEVER knew you. Not I once knew you but now I don't or any other version. It shows that just because you can heal or do miracles and say it's in Jesus' name doesn't mean that that person has ever believed. John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. Acts 16:30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Romans 10:9 if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 1 John 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. This is how God knows us. Jesus paid the full price for us and if we believe in Him and what He did for us we are saved. He loves us as we are and wherever we are, and just like any other relationship we are impacted by being in contact with others. The same is with Jesus, he transforms us from the inside out as we get to know Him and spend time with Him in prayer and His Word- The Bible. What's the will of the Father? 2 Perter 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. The facts are God is Holy and we are not. It's not a condemnation but a fact. We are all flawed and we all know it. Perfection can't be in the same space as imperfection. You may be a good person but you're still flawed. We've all lied, taken time off work and gotten paid for it (stealing) we've all disobeyed our parents and coveted other people's stuff. We've all lusted after someone else that's not our spouse and we have chased after idols that wasn't God. Money, job, cars, there are many things we put first before God. The point is we have all missed the mark of perfection, that's what sin means. Romans 3:22b-23 For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Religions say if you do this and do that you can get to God. Just be better, try harder and maybe when you die you will have done enough. The Bible says Romans 10:11-13 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him (Jesus) will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Can you admit your flawed that you have missed God's Holy mark? Can you accept that there is a penalty for laws of God you have chosen to break? Can you accept with humility that God loves you so much that He sent Jesus to die a cruel death in our place and that He rose from the dead to save you and all humanity? Not because we deserved it or could earn it but because He loves us as we are, where we are. Can you say thank you and just receive the gift and believe in the work He's done for us? Let me put it another way. We live in a country where men and women who have come before us gave their life willingly so that we could be free. Not because we did anything to deserve it or could earn it, they willingly laid their life down so that we could accept the freedom they fought for and enjoy it. And we remember them and their sacrifice. On a greater scale, this is what Jesus did. He paid a penalty he did not owe for a debt we owed but could not pay. All that he says is can we humble ourselves and just say thank you and receive the gift He paid for with His life? If we can and if we do then we are saved, and we can know we have eternal life in Heaven. I am not saved because I am special, or better, or any different than you. The only thing that may be different is that I realized I could never get to God through becoming perfect on my own. I needed God to come to me, which is who Jesus is. I believed and I was saved and now I try to share the same hope with those who are searching.
I think your God’s Messenger, am a rebel I don’t listen to men “government” but to my own heart and yeah it sometimes deceives me but I really truly trust that God will take care of his children. Luke 15 4What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. So yes am a sinner I don’t deserve to be in the kingdom of God but I question that the USA motto “In God we trust” do you truly trust God or your work to pay you money that helps you when you need it. Or Matthew 16 24¶Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? So stop going after money 1 Timothy 10For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. So ask are you me everyone what are they after?

So my experience is just the opposite. I grew up protestant, became Catholic when I married, and found real depth of faith within that community. It doesn't matter which denomination you're "attending", it's when your heart is attending to the working of the holy spirit and the Word that you will find deeper meaning and faith. On the grace and works issue. Yes, Paul in Ephesians 2 makes it clear it is Grace that saves, not works. But James 2 clearly states faith without works is dead. Are these contradictory? I don't believe so. Grace alone saves, but if you don't exercise good works you show no gratitude for, nor understanding of, that Grace. If your salvation by Grace does not drive you to do good works, you have not truly accepted the Grace you've been offered in your heart. If it does not transform you, you have not received it. Good works therefore become an integral and essential part of that covenant of Grace.
I disagree. I think it’s more like, we’re saved by our faith and our faith produces works. For example, “faith without works is dead” like in James 2:26. I think our faith produces those works it’s a gift from the Holy Spirit in Titus 3:5
We should not judge/presuppose that when other christians/catholics say we are justified by faith, not by works, as if/ that they dont have the works. People also tend to criticize one another just bcoz they dont think the same way/do the same thing. When others pray for the lost, people say "dont only pray", when people evangelize people say "talking without doing good is useless".. What makes them think that the praying people dont do other things also n the people who evangelize dont do other good things? My conclusion : we tend to think of ourselves higher/ better/ above others or unconsciously judge others in our mind.. Lets "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves" Philippians 2:3 NASB

Good works do not save you. Paul and James do not contradict each other. James says our faith in is vain if we have no works, meaning that if we say we have faith, but we have no fruit to show for it, we are likely not saved. James says “I show you my faith by my works.” A combination of Jesus and works for salvation is unbiblical. We will do good work if we’re saved, but we must be saved first
When Paul said we are said by Grace and not by works, the works he was talking about was 'Works of the Law', which older renderings of the New Testament spell out. The works of the law were the old testament practices such as the ritual cleansing and animal sacrifices. This passage by Paul was to counter Peter's claim that new Christians who were not originally Jewish had to adopt the old Jewish practices, which of course the early church decided against. This was a pretty big deal in those first few decades of the Church and had Peter and Paul at odds with one another as Peter was mostly evangelizing the Jews, and Paul the Roman Gentiles. This of course does not mean that our works save us, but that as St. James says in James 2:26 "For even as the body without the spirit is dead; so also faith without works is dead" This is the Catholic understanding of Faith and works. They compliment each other. You aren't saved by your works, but if you claim to have Faith and have no works, then your claim to Faith is simply not true.
Eric Harrah no your faith is your faith. And your works is your works. Your works are dead in your faith. Your faith is not dead because you have no works. Paul line epistles teaches that works cancels grace and that the justice shall live by faith alone. Romans 4:4-5 Romans 11:5
Eric Harrah also James is writing to the Jews James 1:1. At what time period? James 5:3 at the last days (tribulation). All Bible is for the believers but all of the Bible is not about the believers (church age)
From what I can see, the protestants in this comment section seem very aggressive and quick to condemn the Catholic Church. As a Protestant myself, I used to do this. But then I realised I truly felt the presence of God in a Catholic as well as my Pentacostal church. Doesn't matter what church you go to, you need to have a heart that will readily receive the presence of God and a thirst to grow deeper in covanental relationship with Him. Seeking God and growing in the Word does not depend on the church. Although supporting each other as brothers and sisters in Christ is important, knowledge of scripture is still based on your own willingness to read the Word in your own free time. If you feel like you prefer a Catholic/Protestant church, then go for it! I believe the different churches we have now really help the expansion of God's Kingdom as some really don't like the way Catholics worship. And that's fine. Accept our differences and recognise we should be united as one body of Christ, instead of being quick to condemn and despise each other for scriptural differences.
"united as one" sounds very NWO. "felt the presence of God in a catholic church" i'm sure you "felt" something but most likely not from God. The catholic church is the whore of Babylon, and that is not being aggressive i'm simply stating the obvious, catholics have more faith on their "mother church" (which is not) pope, traditions (just like the pharisees) idols, sun worship symbolism and if that's not enough they have a Jesuit as a pope (read the jesuit creed) also why does he have a statue of pagan Moloch in Rome ?? they don't even hide who they truly serve anymore...

I was raised catholic and attended catechism studying catholic faith. I have NEVER had any catholics teach (in my life) that we are saved through works.
Brandt, I had just the opposite experience than you. As a Cath I was taught that keeping the Sacraments save you from eternal damnation. Baptism in particular "washed my Catholic sins away". Purgatory would expunge you from sin. Colossians teaches that Jesus is enough. Anything extra, in our view(s) would say to the Father "Jesus just wasn't a good enough sacrifice for our sins".
Speaking as a catholic. You are saved because of God's mercy on the cross. To receive his mercy you must have faith in him. But as the word of God teaches, faith without good works is dead. So if you don't do good works you are not saved because then you have no faith and then you don't receive God's mercy. But no we are not saved by good works but indirectly you are.
If by faith alone you mean Faith working through love. Meaning that with True Faith you let Christ work though you in love, then absolutely. Catholics would 100% agree. However, we do not use Faith Alone, because the Bible specifically refutes that. When a Catholic and Orthodox says Faith and Works, you need to understand that Salvation is not a one time event. It is a life-long process which requires you to do good works. If you do not do good works, out of love, then your faith will not save you.
Mathew 25 The Sheep and the Goats 31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ 41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ 44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ 45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
No, that's not quite true. Faith has to come before good works, true---good works done without faith are worthless for salvation----but good works are still a requirement for salvation.
James 2:24 - "You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone." I used to be Protestant. I left it for the one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic faith.
@@lollol-be1iv James 2:24 does not say that. It says that works justify you actively. I would say that mainline protestant salvation theology is compatible with Paul but not so easily with James and Matthew 25. And the reverse is true for Catholicism. Clearly, salvation has to consist of some kind of mixture of faith and works. In practice, the difference between catholicism and protestantism is not quite as large as it may seem, though.
There's also the distinction between Protestants and Catholics regarding praying to God - the Father - ONLY in the name of Jesus vs Mary and the saints.
@Saint Michael Pray for Us Mathew 6:6 'But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.' The people in heaven are not listening...it is only God
@Saint Michael Pray for Us those in hell can not be helped. They are in their final destination. Salvation is for the living. Likewise, those in heaven are also in their final destination. They can do notching for us. It's Jesus - an Him only - who intercedes for us, hence praying to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in His name.
A few thoughts: 1) As you said, a true Christian will do good works, yet the good works are not required for salvation - agreed. However, could it not be said that unless you doing good works you are not a true Christian? We are all called to do good, if we claim to follow Christ, aren't we then obliged to do good works? 2) Under the theory that justification only happens once, how do you account for a person that loses their faith and then regains it? That's all I've got for now but I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Okay, for the first question you have, a "True Christian" would have to be doing a lot more good works than bad ones because they are claiming to be Crist like or "perfect" so for them to be "true" they definitely need to do good works, other wise it's Prue hypocrisy. To 2nd question I kinda experienced, I stoped going to church as a kid because I did not like it, later tho I went back and got saved by accepting Jesus Christ ad my Savior, so I would say to the second question that, a person who loses faith and then regains it is just a Christian, they just stoped for a while I guess

So no one can boast. Amen 🙏✝ but works are important as a testimony to show that you are saved. "Why do you call me 'Lord', 'Lord' & not do the things which I say?" (Luke 6:46)
Yes, it was a "death bed confession and conversion (which is a work and act of love for God and His goodness), which is the exception not the norm. If the "good theif" was not in his last hours then He would be required to do works consistent with the justification and salvation He received from Jesus and His grace. @@ThomB50 Of course we can but our works alone will never get us into heaven or keep us there (in the spirit on earth) apart from Jesus. His works make it possible and our works show our love and appreciation for them and Him. Given that, it might be better to say that we can work our way out of salvation if we don't take loving Him seriously. The end of John chapter 14 eludes to that, as does the beginning of 15 (John). His love is not unconditional. Never-ending,yes, but not unconditional when it comes to heavenly entrance and occupancy. In Christ, Andrew
It's an indictment on the Catholic school and churches he went to that he didn't learn the faith. If you know the Catholic Church you will never leave it because her heart is just filled with love for man, just like Christ. Also the Sacraments are so important to stay close to Christ as He is Who is administering the Sacraments.
Not in this video, at least. In another one, he spreads the lie that the Deuterocanonical books were added by the Church to the Bible in the 16th century, instead of what really happened, which is that Protestants took them out and stopped including them in Biblies since the 19th century.
I love this brother. I got saved the same way from Christian apologetics and my first book was Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell. I'm not going to give my resume but I've been studying the Bible for forty years, I've read it every year from Genesis to Revelation for the past thirty-four years, and I'm in my third year of Biblical Hebrew. The only reason I'm giving this information is because I know a little about the Bible and Christian apologetics and I love his answers. This is what want to say to him. "You have an incredible ministry and I take my hat off to you. Keep up the good work brother. You are a blessing to anyone that hears your take on the word of God."
How does anyone get saved and then have to die? I thought saved was saved from death. 1 Corinthians 15:22 For just as in Adam all are dying, so also in the Christ all will be made alive.
@@tongakhan230 What alive means in context here is eternal life. Our life on Earth is temporary. While believers, our citizenship is in heaven and that is the real life that Jesus talked about. Not this fallen state of flesh and bone.
@@GiftofGrace88 : Does one mean that the Earth was to be testing ground for life elsewhere? When did God ever state that? What would have happened if Adam had not sinned? Wouldn't be still be alive and living in some country? And the need for God to send Jesus wouldn't have arisen? Adam lost us the ability to live forever. Jesus' ransom sacrifice restores that ability. Humans were made to live on EARTH. That is where they will live. (Psalm 37:29) The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it. (Compare Jesus' promise at Matthew 5:5). I think one is confusing the future life of those CHOSEN to rule with Jesus in God's Government with what humans in general are promised. These chosen few get transformations to spirit life so as to be able to leave earth's environment (Philippians 3:20,21). See what transformation God's Government would do for this earth and its inhabitants. See Revelation 21:3,4.
I was raised Catholic, but did my research and came to know that the Catholic Church is the only Church Christ Himself instituted on Earth (and assured us that it would never be fully destroyed). All other denominations, although most have similar goals and beliefs as the Catholics were founded by other people. I could not trust being in any other for that and many other reasons, although I respect those who still want to be in another denomination, we have after all free-will.
@@deezynar Also it is the only church that you can historically trace back all the way to Christ Himself and Peter, the very first Pope. Although countless have tried, no one has been able for over 2000 years, to fully destroy the Catholic Church. No one will, because Christ promised us that "The Gates of Hell would not prevail against her". To give the keys of the Kingdom would equate to leaving someone in place, overseeing everything, until Christ returns.

Early Church Fathers on Peter Being the First Bishop of the Church of Rome Clement Recognitions book 1 (27-97 ad) The epistle in which the same Clement, writing to James the Lord's brother, informs him of the death of Peter, and that he had left him his successor in his chair and teaching, and in which also the whole subject of church order is treated, I have not prefixed to this work, both because it is of later date, and because I have already translated and published it. But I do not think it out of place to explain here what in that letter will perhaps seem to some to be inconsistent. Since Linus and Cletus were bishops in the city of Rome before this Clement, how could Clement himself say that the chair of teaching was handed over to him by Peter? Now of this we have heard this explanation, that Linus and Cletus were indeed bishops in the city of Rome before Clement, but during the lifetime of Peter: that is, that they undertook the care of the episcopate, and that he fulfilled the office of apostleship; as is found also to have been the case at Caesarea, where, when he himself was present, he yet had Zacchaeus, ordained by himself, as bishop. And in this way both statements will appear to be true, both that these bishops are reckoned before Clement, and yet that Clement received the teacher's seat on the death of Peter. Tertullian Prescription Against Heretics ch 22 (160- 240 ad) Was anything withheld from the knowledge of Peter, who is called "the rock on which the church should be built," who also obtained "the keys of the kingdom of heaven," with the power of "loosing and binding in heaven and on earth?" Tertullian Prescription Against Heretics ch 32 (160- 240 ad) For it is evident that those men lived not so long ago,--in the reign of Antoninus for the most part,--and that they at first were believers in the doctrine of the Catholic Church, in the church of Rome under the episcopate of the blessed Eleutherus, the 13th Bishop of Rome until on account of their ever restless curiosity, with which they even infected the brethren, they were more than once expelle Tertullian The Prescription Against Heretics ch 32 [160-240 AD] "[T]his is the way in which the apostolic churches transmit their lists: like the church of the Smyrneans, which records that Polycarp was placed there by John, like the church of the Romans, where Clement was ordained by Peter" (Demurrer Against the Heretics 32:2 [A.D. 200]). Caius Fragment 2 AGAINST THE HERESY OF ARTEMON ch 1 (180-240 ad) For they say that all those of the first age, and the apostles themselves, both received and taught those things which these men now maintain; and that the truth of Gospel preaching was preserved until the times of Victor, who was the fourteenth bishop in Rome after Peter, Origen Commentary on the Gospel of John Book 5 par 3 (185-254 ad) And Peter, on whom Christ had to build his church, against which the gates of hell shall not prevail left only one epistle of acknowledged genuineness. Cyprian of Carthage Epistle 45 par 2 [200-270 AD] We," they say, "know that Cornelius, the twenty-first bishop of the most holy Catholic Church elected by Almighty God, and by Christ our Lord. We confess our error; we have suffered imposture; we were deceived by captious perfidy and loquacity. For although we seemed, as it were, to have held a kind of communion with a man who was a schismatic and a heretic, yet our mind was always sincere in the Church. For we are not ignorant that there is one God; that there is one Christ the Lord whom we have confessed, and one Holy Spirit; and that in the Catholic Church there ought to be one bishop." Cyprian of Carthage epistle 74 par 16 (200-270 ad) But what is the greatness of his error, and what the depth of his blindness, who says that remission of sins can be granted in the synagogues of heretics, and does not abide on the foundation of the one Church which was once based by Christ upon the rock, may be perceived from this, that Christ said to Peter alone, "Whatsoever thou shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." And again, in the Gospel, when Christ breathed on the apostles alone, saying, remitted unto them, and whose soever sins ye retain they are retained." Therefore the power of remitting sins was given to the apostles, and to the churches which they, sent by Christ, established, and to the bishops who succeeded to them by vicarious ordination. But the enemies of the one Catholic Church in which we are, and the adversaries of us who have succeeded the apostles, asserting for themselves, in opposition to us, unlawful priesthoods, and setting up profane altars, what else are they than Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, profane with a like wickedness, and about to suffer the same punishments which they did, as well as those who agree with them, just as their partners and abettors perished with a like death to theirs? Cyprian of Carthage epistle 72 par 7 (200-270 ad) But it is manifest where and by whom remission of sins can be given; to wit, that which is given in baptism. For first of all the Lord gave that power to Peter, upon whom He built the Church, and whence He appointed and showed the source of unity--the power, namely, that whatsoever he loosed on earth should be loosed in heaven. And after the resurrection, also, He speaks to the apostles, saying, "As the Father hath sent me, even so I send you. And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith, unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whosoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosoever sins ye retain, they are retained." Whence we perceive that only they who are set over the Church and established in the Gospel law, and in the ordinance of the Lord, are allowed to baptize and to give remission of sins; but that without, nothing can either be bound or loosed, where there is none who can either bind or loose anything. Cyprian of Carthage epistle 54 par 14 (200-270 ad) After such things as these, moreover, they still dare--a false bishop having been appointed for them by, heretics--to set sail and to bear letters from schismatic and profane persons to the throne of Peter, and to the chief church whence priestly unity takes its source; and not to consider that these were the Romans whose faith was praised in the preaching of the apostle, to whom faithlessness could have no access. Cyprian of Carthage Epistle 51 par 8 [200-270 AD] "Cornelius was made bishop by the decision of God and of his Christ, by the testimony of almost all the clergy, by the applause of the people then present, by the college of venerable priests and good men, at a time when no one had been made bishop before him-when the place of Pope Fabian, which is the place of Peter, the dignity of the sacerdotal chair, was vacant. Since it has been occupied both at the will of God and with the ratified consent of all of us, whoever now wishes to become bishop must do so outside. For he cannot have ecclesiastical rank who does not hold to the unity of the Church" Cyprian of Carthage Treatise 1 par 4 [200-270 AD] There is easy proof for faith in a short summary of the truth. The Lord speaks to Peter, saying, "I say unto thee, that thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound also in heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." And again to the same He says, after His resurrection, resurrection, He gives an equal power, and says, "As the Father hath sent me, even so send I you: Receive ye the Holy Ghost: He arranged by His authority the origin of that unity, as beginning from one. Cyprian of Carthage epistle 39 par 5 [200-270 AD] There is one God, and Christ is one, and there is one Church, and one chair founded upon the rock by the word of the Lord. Another altar cannot be constituted nor a new priesthood be made, except the one altar and the one priesthood. Peter of Alexandria Genuine Acts of Peter (260-311ad) ...and guardian of all preceding and subsequent occupiers of this pontifical chair ...Peter was the first of the apostles...
My opinion: The differences have to be discussed by protestants and catholics with respect, love and justice. At the same time, none of them should call each other false christians or something like that.
Simba Questionador yes they should, we need to judge each other on our beliefs. I’m not saying all Catholics should be called false, but there is a possibility that they’re false.
@@gamma3563 Yep. There's nothing loving about denying the truth of God's word to protect someone's feelings about their beliefs. There's a right way to correct them but staying silent when someone adds to the word of God doesn't honor God or help the other person.
I agree that some sects are not christan based, but in general the tradicional catholicism and protestantism are both christian. The fact is, i know they cant be both right about their dogmas, but i also know the theological differences between their doctrine are not enough to make them lose Christ and salvation.
What’s even funnier is Protestants teach justified by faith alone yet there is only one verse in the Bible that says the exact opposite. What happens to branches that produce no fruit ? Fire is theirs.
Andrew Lineberger glad to see a brother in Christ. People saying you must produce good fruits to show you are saved. That’s heresy and lordship salvation
Agree. As a Roman Catholic, We don't earn salvation as it has already been purchased by Christ at the Cross. As God's children, we do good because that is our nature in Christ.
I’m Catholic as well and isn’t the belief that the rewards of eternal life have been purchased for us by Christ. In order to reap those rewards via salvation it’s through faith and works
I’m a catholic and I know I cannot be saved by good works. My catholic priest and seminarian friend said the same thing. It is by the grace of God that we are saved. The homily in my church says it too. I don’t know where you learned that but I admit some thinks like that too. But not intentionally. I was unconscious about that too when I was young. But now I know. That’s all. Peace brother. P.s. I believe each sect or denominations of Christianity should learn from each other. Should there be difference, I hope we can learn to respect each other’s beliefs. God bless you.
I’m Eastern Orthodox. When I try to explain what we believe to a Protestant, you can see their brains short circuiting. They have been conditioned to hate the Catholic Church mostly because of the Papacy and then can’t process the fact that the Orthodox Church is basically the Catholic Church without papal supremacy. They cannot grasp it at all.
I didnt had a religious upbringing but came to faith about 4 years ago. When i came to understand about what God did for us, i really wanted to get to know Him. Because He loved us first and what He did, it whas His crace that changed me, not my own. It is God Himself that changes our harts trough the Holy Spirit. Relationship people.
How exactly does one not sin against God's law after justification according to God? Even if I could control my behavior, my thought itself would still sin and condemn me to eternal hell. And God will forgive if I ask for forgiveness for each sin? But, what if I can't remember each and every sin? Will God not forgive me for the sins I failed to remember? But, I thank God that he will not hold it against me as the blood of the lamb has justified me. His Son, Jesus Christ has died for me and my sins. Now, God remembers my sins no more, even the ones I failed to remember and did not ask for forgiveness. Praise the most High God for his mercy and love.
We still sin after being saved, but hopefully, we will sin less. Our thoughts are NOT sins....they turn into sins once we put the thought into action. God will forgive our sins when we ask Him to and if we "forget" all our sins He will still forgive them if we are truly repentant of them. God does not hold our sins against us even if we can't recall every single sin we commit.
How many good works? How much fruit?... I'm not trying to argue... I think they're indicative but not imperative... That's what I believe.. Jesus Saves..
So there is no need for fellowship with the Holy Spirit or I John 1:9? Salvation doesn't require a single work from man. Respectfully, salvation and fellowship are two different topics in the Bible.
@@cba4389 you are exactly right... Salvation and Fellowship are two different things... And I thank God that he saved me and that I'm sealed with the spirit until the day of redemption.. praise God
The problem here is that while Roman Catholic official doctrine necessarily involves Christ and grace, most Catholics don't know that. They don't care, either. They go to mass, take the Eucharist, try to do the sacraments, and hope for the best. Some marry Jews, some marry atheists, and they don't see any problem with that. And then recently, the Pope told a little boy that his atheist father is in heaven because he was a good man. So, while official Catholic doctrine is one thing, what the average Catholic believes is something else entirely.
Jesus taught about this: Matthew 7:21-27 Matthew 25:34-36 Matthew 25:45-46 Then there's this: James 2:14-26 Faith is a call to action. The best evidence of what you claim to believe, is how you live. Go and make disciples of all nations means more than just preaching, and even Paul said so in 1 Thessalonians where he talks about living the example of Christ, not just in words. When you claim to be a Christian you have to walk the talk. Do not be deceived into thinking otherwise. Jesus also talked about that in Luke 17:2... Stay safe & FOLLOW Jesus Christ. Peace.
This is a fundamental difference, extremely important, and absolutely a salvation issue. But Protestants and Catholics can still do apologetics together

Great comment. The word necessary is the key. If you decide to follow Jesus, good works must be the consequence of this decision and not a mere option. They go hand in hand.
My dad was raised in the Roman Church and was catechised by people in that organization. He became a protestant when he was in his twenties. If I understood what my dad taught me (and some of what I’ve learned since then), the Roman Church teaches that we are justified by God’s grace alone and that the sacraments of the Roman Church (properly “administered”) are the conduit or vehicle of God’s grace. Conversely, protestants teach that we are justified by God’s grace alone and that the conduit or vehicle of God’s grace is faith alone. Some protestants would add that our faith is also a gift of God’s grace, i.e. that our faith is God’s gift to us, not our gift to him. Some protestants teach that justification is a “one time thing” but I think a person can still be considered protestant who believes justification occurs each time we realize we have committed sinful (selfish) acts and we ask for God’s forgiveness. The majority of professed Christians don’t place as much emphasis on sanctification as John Wesley did. Personally, I think there are a number of emphases that would benefit the Christian church, of which an emphasis on sanctification is only one. We are not saved by our theology. Careful theology, however, can minimize the mistakes we make as we attempt to convey the gospel to those who know it not.
I'm a born again Christian, a Southern Baptist, Baptized Aug 2nd, 1997. 1st John 1: 9 says -"If we confess our sins, He will be faithful and just and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." You have to confess your sins to God. The Catholic have confession of sins to a Priest. This is only one of many things about the Catholic that has made me wonder about salvation in the Catholic Church.
@Mavors - You are given birth from your mother. That's once. A physical birth. When you become a Christian you must be born again by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. A Spiritual birth. Thus Born Again.
@Mavors - I can see you are an atheist and have no concept of the Bible. I am not going to get into a long drawn out debate with you. You believe what you want to and I'll keep my faith in God. We can leave it at that. One day you will find that God does exist.
@Mavors - No, I don't question the Catholics belief. You believe what you want. I think it's a false religion and am not triggered by someone questioning my Christian Faith. Like I said, you can believe what you want . It's a free society.
I’ve learned to ask the person I’m in disagreement with “will you please show me in the scriptures where it says what you’re saying?” Most will reply “well, this is what I was taught”.
When Frank says Catholics can be saved I agree with him completely, I'm just very much concerned for every Catholic, as they are under so much false doctrine while largely being discouraged from reading their Bible to expose these false teachings, that it becomes far less likely. I came out of it, but my family is still mostly Catholic. I take much solace in the scripture that says "we will only be accountable for what we know." Yet, if Jesus is really lord of a person's life, does that person not automatically want to find out what the boss says, what he wants, how he wants us to conduct ourselves? In other words, it seems automatic that anyone professing Jesus as Lord would be compelled to read the Bible, and in doing so discover all of the false teachings of Catholicism, and get out. That's what is involved in personal relationship, but religiosity is so thick in Catholicism that it hinders that relationship aspect.
John Boehmer Is this a serious comment or a joke? If you attend Catholic Mass daily for 3 years you will hear almost the whole Bible read to you and commented upon by the priest. Unless you eat My Flesh and drink My Blood you shall not have life within you. Jesus said this 5 times in John6 so it’s an important instruction, especially when combined with the Last Supper accounts. The Catholic Church had the final say on Biblical content c.375. The early church fathers all emphasized the importance of Holy Communion. Blessings
@@larryluch8178 I was a practicing Catholic for 20 years, three different churches, and I estimate it was no more than maybe 80 scriptures that were read and used as part of the sermon in my whole time in. Same ones repeated regularly, nothing from the old testament. Never once encouraged to read my Bible. I have heard many other Catholics attest to the same, no sir, not a joke. If you're honestly telling me that in a three-year span you will have studied and dealt with almost the entire Bible, I'll just have to take your word for it. Apparently your priest is doing your congregation a much better service than the status quo priest is.
John Boehmer In a 3 year cycle every Catholic Mass has OT or an epistle, a psalm and NT readings. Today we have Paul to the Galatians, a psalm and the Gospel story of Martha and Mary. This should be the same worldwide. Every Mass has the Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist. Just like the Jews were fed manna in the desert so at Mass we receive Jesus truly present, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in Holy Communion. This is what Jesus gave us in the Last Supper and John 6- Unless you eat My Flesh and drink My Blood you shall not have life within you. I’m surprised you got such little exposure to Scripture but we are living in dark times . Sadly some priests are not faithful to church discipline. Anyway, blessings to you in your constant efforts to be closer to Jesus
@@johnboehmer6683 You either only attended Church only a couple of Sundays a month, like every Cath-lite turned protestant that I've known, or you weren't Catholic at all and are lying. The Bible is read in almost its entirety in three year cycles during mass, but that's if you go EVERY DAY, not just on Sundays, or occasionally when you remember to go. The Church in several documents has encouraged the faithful to read the Scriptures; I'm sorry that you were surrounded by Cath-lites like you that never told you this. "Nothing from the Old Testament" Yeah, this shows you were not paying attention when in Church.
@@DanteColburn Hello Dante. Well, quite a response, thanks...I think... Yeah, either I only attended Mass occasionally, or I'm lying....or I went every Sunday. Guilty however of not going every day, and if that qualifies me for Catholite™ in your eyes, then 98.47% of all Catholics get the same title, and are apparently on their way out the door also. I'll take your word for it that the church is now encouraging its people to read the Bible, but having gone to two Catholic churches regularly, and visited another 4 or so, I can only tell you that it's my honest experience that I never heard those words. Not in my catechism either. At any rate, hope all is well with you today Dante, say hi to the family for me...
What an amazing explanation! And he's completely correct, at least from what I've experienced. I noticed that protestants give their lives to Christ and just tend to grow in Christ and do good because they want to and it is part of the process of growing in Christ. Whereas with Catholics they tend to feel they have to do good works to stay on God's good side and it isn't so much because they just have an urge to do so.
"If you are saved, you will do good works"_Frank T. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."(Matthew 5:16)
Dr. Frank Turek I really love your explanations on many issues, but regarding this particular in ? I suggest you study what the early Church Fathers interpreted, we shouldn't forget they were the first bear and witness to the truth. Otherwise we'll end up interpreting as one feels like, worse still we take along that 'The Holy Spirit say so' even though we're saying just the opposite, clearly Truth can't have two or three versions to it.
As someone raised Catholic - 12 years of Catholic schools, I can say I was left believing I was good to go because I am a Catholic and if not I leaned heavily on purgatory. I came to Christ in my forties through hearing the Word of God and studying the Bible with an evangelical group. After 12 years of Catholic schools- I blind knew nothing about the Word of God, I didn’t know it understand the salvation message. I was stuck in a sacerdotal system that depended on my works and forgiveness from a mere man. The only Jesus I knew was a weak and powerless baby in the arms of a strong feminine Deity, Mary who Catholics are told and encouraged to pray to, and a dead Christ still hanging on a cross. The deference with Catholicism is way bigger than Frank just simplified. The Mass is a replay of Christ death sacrificing Him over and over. It’s a ritual. Transubstantiation is the belief (mandatory for Catholics) that Christ is literally called from the Throne at the right hand of God, and ordered into the host which hosts an entity in this case Christ, where He is rekilled by the breaking of the Eucharist and His body is crushed by our teeth as we chew the Eucharist. According to the CCC what I just described is true. They believe that Christs presence in the host is exactly the same as when he walked the Earth. This believe according to the CCC applies also to the Pope. Of which there are two now Alice at the same time - the pope is the embodiment of Christ on Earth (not a representative) every much the same as when Christ walked the Earth. Catholicism is paganism. I do not know a single Catholic who s saved and still performing self salvific works, and believes they leave a confessional free from sin….who knows acts or talks like one who is actually saved. Frank does a huge miscarriage to compare Catholicism to True Salvation as a few minor differences.
The NT gives us EVERYTHING we need to know about who the saved are. There is no confusion, no doctrines of devils or men. God actually WANTS you to question Him. The whole journey as a Christian is wonderful, even in its suffering and trials. My God, His Spirit and His Son are everywhere around me and I see, feel, hear, taste and touch His goodness everywhere I go.
That is true - but the members went away from the truth and invented a truth of their own. Then Martin Luther was called and true Christianity was re-instated.
Read in the context don't take one verse 16;18 only, read further ....v23?? Jesus Christ is the ROCK & the Corner Stone & the Head of HIS BODY- the CHURCH !
Can you unpack what this means? If you do you'll understand this 'problem' of faith and works. " If i believe there is a crocodile below my bed i wouldn't go there ".
It doesn’t say you will it says you should do good works, well at least that’s what my bible says kjv. Also another very clear passage is, And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. Romans 11.6 it’s one or the other there’s no mixing.
The gospel is the GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM! Repent and believe the gospel! Follow Jesus’ teachings! Jesus is going to return and set up the kingdom of God ON THE EARTH! God’s government ON THE EARTH! The Messiah will resurrect his people! The destiny of the Messiah and his people is to be ON THE EARTH! The renewed restored earth! God also dwelling with them! Rev 21 Jesus said the Father is the only true God! John 17 3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. RSV Only-monos God-theos Monos theos Monotheism The Father Jesus is the one sent by the true God (the Father)! Jesus never claimed to be God, Jesus said he has a God! Jesus has a God! Jesus died! God can’t die! God raised Jesus from the dead!
Catholics actually also believe that good works are not needed for salvation, but grace alone. They believe that good works are a result of holy spirit working in a new horn christian. That used to be a debate but now that's official doctrine for quite some time. You can read it on official vatican website in document called joint declaration of justification.
As a Catholic, I can agree this is the most pointless argument between Protestants and Catholics. Jesus Christ saved us on the cross. We show our faith by our works. It’s a cooperation. Both Catholics and Protestants agree to believe in Christ and keep His teachings. It’s all a matter of wording between both parities.
No.. Catholics holds high priestess to the filthy Pope than to our Lord. They neglect all the things that our Lord did cause they were too embarrass to embrace that the Romans crucify him. That's why the hold high regards to Mary than our Lord. Plus all those pegan ritualistic practices similar like those of Romans. Idolatry, bowing to statues, praying beads, etc.
Jesus crucifixion is the will of God .. for it is the plan for redemption... (taking all our sins to himself) the heavenly lamb... a sacrificial offering to God. and at the same time freeing us from the chains of sin and from Satan and his elks .... and for the preparation for his next coming (Rev). an so on ........
2:43 this protestant guy is so blinded that he says "I THINK THAT YOU ARE SAVED BY FAITH ALONE"! He THINKS, that's the problem with protestants, they make up stuff! That doctrine is the doctrine of a man called Martin Luther but Martin Luther's doctrine IS NOT IN THE BIBLE. I am an atheist and even I know the true christian doctrine James 2:14-26 "What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill’, and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? 17 SO FAITH BY ITSELF, IF IT HAS NO WORKS, IS DEAD. 18 But someone will say, ‘You have faith and I have works.’ Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder. (See, the bible is clear, you will not be saved by believing in God and having faith in God, for even the demons believe and shudder, but they are not saved) 20 DO YOU WANT TO BE SHOWN, YOU SENSELESS PERSON, THAT FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS BARREN? 21 Was not our ancestor Abraham justified by works when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was brought to completion by the works. 23 Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness’, and he was called the friend of God. 24 YOU SEE THAT A PERSON IS JUSTIFIED BY WORKS AND NOT BY FAITH ALONE. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by another road? 26 FOR JUST AS THE BODY WITHOUT THE SPIRIT IS DEAD, SO FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS ALSO DEAD." Protestants are pagans, they teach a doctrine taught by Martin Luther. For this reason Jesus says Matthew 15:13-14 "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. 14 Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if one blind person guides another, both will fall into a pit." At least the catholics teach the bible as it is, but the protestants invent new doctrines and make up stuff. And do you know what's more embarrassing? That an atheist knows this and the so called "Christians" do not LMAO. PROTESTANTS ARE FAKE CHRISTIANS! They follow a doctrine taught by Martin Luther, a doctrine that IS NOT IN THE BIBLE. Now I know why you guys have the name "protestants" lol.
Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me”. You only need faith in Jesus Christ to be saved. Salvation is free. If we need good works to achieve it, then it is no longer free. To address James, it merely shows that true faith should have fruits, which includes good works. It doesn’t mean that the good works will bring you salvation. Good works are the product of your faith. I can do good works all day and have no faith. But having true faith in Jesus gives me salvation and allows me to do good works due to my love for Him.
Then by that logic muslims are saved. Only those who received the kingdom of heaven like a child will enter it. Did the kid receive gifts by working for it ? Nope they can only receive it as a gift. Thats the way it work. If we work for it whats the point of Jesus being there?
We're saved through Faith, but we grow through good works. These two go hand in hand AFTER you become a Believer in Christ. James 2:24 24As you can see, a man is justified by his deeds and not by faith alone. James 2:26 26As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
you heard this one right....good works are the fruit of salvation not the root of salvation....Good works are the good fruit that comes out of any born again believer but the works do not save and cannot save because works are zero to God when done out of trying to be self righteous in other words earn good graces,...we do good works because we are saved...period
@@3n197 You can be a good unbeliever but still not saved because you don't believe in Jesus Christ - this is when good works accounts for nothing if we don't have Faith. But after you become a Believer in Christ, we need to be equipped and empowered by the Gospel to grow. Because it is expected of us to be fruitful Believers as in the Parable of the Talents and the Parable of the Sower that Jesus gave.
3 in 1 I agree. But if a Christian doesn’t do works you can’t say they are not saved. There Christians who are saved and don’t have those ‘good fruits’ or stopped producing them.
@@MichaelLopez-ij7dy Brother, I think the kind of Christian you're talking about that doesn't do good works is this: Matthew 25:24-29 24Finally, the servant who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Master, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25So in my fear, I went and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what belongs to you.’ 26‘You wicked, lazy servant!’ replied his master. ‘You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it back with interest. 28Therefore take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents. 29For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. But the one who does not have (salvation), even what he has (life) will be taken away from him. Matthew 13:22 The seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes UNFRUITFUL. John 15:4-6 4Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. 5I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is THROWN AWAY and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire (Hell), and burned.
In this time of Grace. Good works are for your treasures in heaven. Salvation is a gift. Can't earn it or buy it. But. In the tribulation. Is a different salvation. In the tribulation . you can loose your salvation. Like, getting the mark. Or practicing drunkness, sorcery, homosexuality, sleeping around ECT. Would not enter the kingdom of God. Thank God, I live in this time of Grace. God bless 🙏

I enjoy your videos, and I’ll definitely keep watching, but as a Catholic I would say that the Catholic Church is the church of God, Protestants have it wrong. We agree on so much, yet those differences we disagree on are huge. I don’t know if you’ve ever read the book “The Faith of the Early Fathers” by William A Jurgens. Shows how the early church matches very well with the orthodox/Catholic Churches, more so then it matches with Protestant churches.
@@alil6547 It's not basically everywhere. You're taking these passages out of context. Read John 14:12, Matthew 7:14-27 and Luke 6:46. Mere belief in Christ will not grant one entrance into heaven. There is nothing that says, verbatim, "Faith Alone" or "Faith Only" in Holy scripture. Try again.
@@CatholicE2112 that’s like saying Christ didn’t say “I am God worship me” anywhere is Scripture, therefore He isn’t God. Yes it is everywhere, you are saved without works period. Then the argument goes as followed: “you have to work to keep it” this is ridiculous and easily debunked by Scripture, once saved always saved is still biblical. John 14:2 says faith will result in works. Doesn’t help you at all. Nothing in all of Matthew 7 helps you, this is an a objective fact, you gave a long passage so if you’d like to pick your favorite set of verses you twisted, you can do it because I don’t know what exact part to address here. None of it helps you. Luke 6:46 doesn’t even say that you would lose salvation, it addresses “Christians” who aren’t even saved. You shall know them by their fruits ≠ they are saved by their works.
Such a shame to hear such an intelligent man misunderstanding something so fundamental to the Christian faith. Nowhere in the bible does it say that we are saved by faith alone. When Paul speaks of being justified by faith and not works, he is merely stating that works alone do not save you. It is faith and works that are necessary for salvation, and Jesus makes this clear many times. If you did not know Jesus as a Catholic, it says something about you, not about the Catholic church.
@@handsomedevil4928 On that we are agreed. But, since you state you are not a Catholic, I'm sure we will disagree somewhere. So what denomination are you? Or are you nondenominational?
As a Catholic I am proud because we are the first christian church, the church preserved and compiled the bible and the Church founded by Jesus himself.
There was an early church in Rome but overtime they began to deny faith alone in Christ alone and basics of the Christian faith. I don’t believe Catholicism is very biblical at all - you won’t find any mention of purgatory, Mary worship, papal infallibility or any of that in the Bible at all. That’s why we needed the reformation-to take us back to sola scriptura
Kyle Skopec Ephesians 2:8-9, “saved by faith...not of works so that no one can boast.” That’s what Catholicism is, it’s a works righteous religion. We don’t need to pray to Mary, saints, or go to a priest, the Christian can boldly approach the throne of God with confidence because they’re a child of God who has been made righteous by Christ’s work on the cross and not of themselves. Any works we offer to God are filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). Sacraments can’t save us, no good deeds, no penance-only Jesus Christ can save a wretch like me. I don’t know what to tell you if you think the Bible isn’t the only scripture-the Bible is infallible, sufficient and any wisdom added by a man is heresy. Galatians 1:6-9 tells us that
"Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work." Romans 11:5-6 NKJV
“But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.” Romans 5:15 NKJV
Bottom line: Salvation is all of grace. We can not earn it and we don’t deserve it. We are saved by His grace through faith alone. Salvation doesn’t depend on what we have done.
@John I’m going to encourage you to humble yourself, pray, and read your Bible daily, so you can gain a heart of wisdom and strengthen your faith. The only way to please God is to believe and have faith in Him by His word. If we side-step God’s word, we won’t truly know Him, praise Him, or be genuinely thankful to Him. Seeking Him in His word is a buy product of loving God. Without preconceived notions, recommend start with the new testament, particularly, John, Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, Hebrews, and James. First, pray for discernment and truth. Read in context and trust where ever it leads you. It is truly profound and you may need to reread them often. Most importantly, love and trust God. ““Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.”” Jeremiah 9:23-24
@Charles Pieters Please do not be deceived Charles. By your comments, it is clear you don’t understand the gospel and grace. Set aside your hatred and pride and humble yourself to almighty God. I respectfully offer the same advice in my last comment to John to you as well. Pray and honestly seek the truth in God’s word without preconceived notions… I agree that obedience is part of the Christian life to show our love for our heavenly Father by what He does and has already done for us. I pray God give you peace and understanding. Here are just a few scriptures to help you: ""But He gives more grace. "Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”" James 4:6 NKJV "You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace." Galatians 5:4 NKJV “Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;” Hebrews 3:12 NKJV “And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” I John 1:8-10 NKJV “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18 NKJV “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. @Jim Parker The word church appears more than the word Bible. There's so much division in Protestantism because any guy can interpret it in the way he/she wants it then start a new church. When does it stop. Some of them are blind though. Again I believe protestanism is 500 years worth of misconception and misunderstanding. Some people don't know the truth so we can't be hard on them. It is not of their own doing
Liam Blumeris none of the early church taught the same gospel the common day RCC does. And don’t use the straw man “33K denominations” argument, that’s been refuted by a fellow catholic himself.

DECREE CONCERNING JUSTIFICATION.
ON JUSTIFICATION.
Canon i.
Canon iii. If any one shall say, that without the preventing inspiration of the Holy Ghost, and his help, man can believe, hope, love, or be penitent, as he ought, so that the grace of justification may be conferred upon him; let him be anathema.
Jesus himself also said and I quote from Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of Heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."
And this is the will of Him who send me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up the last day. John 6:40

I am not clear what your stance is so I am only replying to clarify the verse referenced not to assume you see it differently. Not everyone who says Lord Lord... Saying I believe in Jesus with only my words doesn't mean I believe it in my heart and have accepted His free gift of Salvation.
I would also include verse 22- On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
Notice here Jesus says I NEVER knew you.
Acts 16:30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Romans 10:9 if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Can you admit your flawed that you have missed God's Holy mark?
Or
Matthew 16
24¶Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
So stop going after money
1 Timothy 10For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. So ask are you me everyone what are they after?
@@mbfrommb3699 the "doing of mighty works in your name" bit must be from within the church otherwise they wouldn't be doing them in His name. So the deception is coming from within the church and are the false prophets as per Matthew 7:15-20.
False. Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus. A true catholic knows that any denomination of the church of protesting is a false denomination.
Evan Lee do you mean about the fact that we believe that the bread is the body of Christ?
Lets "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves"

That’s false. You can be saved through faith and grace and not produce fruit.
Just because you have no works doesn’t mean you’re not saved.

@@andrawsyaqo4732 I do believe the devil went to the Catholic Church just as the devil went to many Protestant Churches and the Orthodox. Do you deny the Catholic Church has done no wrong? Do you deny that there are many Catholic priests who were child molesters and pedophiles? How about the crusades when the Catholic Church killed the Greek Orthodox Christians? How about the Spanish Inquisition ( please don't deny them, man, lol you guys clearly did it). Don't worry the Protestants have done plenty of wrongs and still do many wrongs, we are so divided and so inept to defend and enforce the trinitarian traditions. I as a Protestant will humbly admit that and will do whatever it takes to address those problems. However, let's be honest wrong and clear evil has been committed by many Christians and used our beloved Savior's name in vain and for their selfish gain.
I do have to say most protestants should be honest and be more grateful to the Catholics.
Accepting christ is what gets you into heaven, doing works on earth gets you rewards in heaven.

I just had this conversation with a couple of Catholic priests... My answer was the same as Frank Turek. Thank you Holy Spirit. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
There's many Catholic priests men who have God residing within them. Don't be so quick to judge.
There's also the distinction between Protestants and Catholics regarding praying to God - the Father - ONLY in the name of Jesus vs Mary and the saints.
@Saint Michael Pray for Us It's not Biblical to ask dead people to intercede. I guess maybe because they're dead.
@Saint Michael Pray for Us the prayers of the saints are believers in Christ NOT dead people.
@Saint Michael Pray for Us (hágios) Greek means "likeness of nature with the Lord" because "different from the world."
@Saint Michael Pray for Us Mathew 6:6 'But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.'
The people in heaven are not listening...it is only God
@Saint Michael Pray for Us those in hell can not be helped. They are in their final destination. Salvation is for the living. Likewise, those in heaven are also in their final destination. They can do notching for us. It's Jesus - an Him only - who intercedes for us, hence praying to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in His name.
A few thoughts:
1) As you said, a true Christian will do good works, yet the good works are not required for salvation - agreed.

Clement Recognitions book 1 (27-97 ad)
The epistle in which the same Clement, writing to James the Lord's brother, informs him of the death of Peter, and that he had left him his successor in his chair and teaching, and in which also the whole subject of church order is treated, I have not prefixed to this work, both because it is of later date, and because I have already translated and published it.

We," they say, "know that Cornelius, the twenty-first bishop of the most holy Catholic Church elected by Almighty God, and by Christ our Lord. We confess our error; we have suffered imposture; we were deceived by captious perfidy and loquacity. For although we seemed, as it were, to have held a kind of communion with a man who was a schismatic and a heretic, yet our mind was always sincere in the Church. For we are not ignorant that there is one God; that there is one Christ the Lord whom we have confessed, and one Holy Spirit; and that in the Catholic Church there ought to be one bishop."
Cyprian of Carthage epistle 74 par 16 (200-270 ad)
But what is the greatness of his error, and what the depth of his blindness, who says that remission of sins can be granted in the synagogues of heretics, and does not abide on the foundation of the one Church which was once based by Christ upon the rock, may be perceived from this, that Christ said to Peter alone, "Whatsoever thou shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." And again, in the Gospel, when Christ breathed on the apostles alone, saying, remitted unto them, and whose soever sins ye retain they are retained." Therefore the power of remitting sins was given to the apostles, and to the churches which they, sent by Christ, established, and to the bishops who succeeded to them by vicarious ordination.
Cyprian of Carthage epistle 72 par 7 (200-270 ad)
But it is manifest where and by whom remission of sins can be given; to wit, that which is given in baptism.
Cyprian of Carthage epistle 54 par 14 (200-270 ad)
After such things as these, moreover, they still dare--a false bishop having been appointed for them by, heretics--to set sail and to bear letters from schismatic and profane persons to the throne of Peter, and to the chief church whence priestly unity takes its source; and not to consider that these were the Romans whose faith was praised in the preaching of the apostle, to whom faithlessness could have no access.
Cyprian of Carthage Epistle 51 par 8 [200-270 AD]
"Cornelius was made bishop by the decision of God and of his Christ, by the testimony of almost all the clergy, by the applause of the people then present, by the college of venerable priests and good men, at a time when no one had been made bishop before him-when the place of Pope Fabian, which is the place of Peter, the dignity of the sacerdotal chair, was vacant. Since it has been occupied both at the will of God and with the ratified consent of all of us, whoever now wishes to become bishop must do so outside. For he cannot have ecclesiastical rank who does not hold to the unity of the Church"
Cyprian of Carthage Treatise 1 par 4 [200-270 AD]
There is easy proof for faith in a short summary of the truth.

It is God Himself that changes our harts trough the Holy Spirit.

@@annemariegiglio9576 Our thoughts can be sinful that's why we must renew our mind according to His Word.
Good works and the fruits of the spirit will follow the truly saved.

We do good, because He was good to us first. Hallelujah!! 🙌🏽
Jesus taught about this:
Matthew 7:21-27
Matthew 25:34-36
Matthew 25:45-46
Then there's this:
James 2:14-26
Faith is a call to action.
Very well done video. Thank you for sharing.
Gotta feel sorry for all the supposed ex Catholics who never knew their faith and did nothing to ask a priest when they were confronted with biblical passages they couldn’t explain
“if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 ESV
I always hear from other Christians “all you need to do is have faith and your saved” but that simply isn’t true...
“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

"Saved" yes.......but not sanctified! There is a difference between "being saved" and "being Holy"....God provides one, but requires both!!

The Thief on the cross was a unique situation. He was receiving the death penalty, which he admitted was just punishment for his sins. Catholics perplex what it is to be saved & give testimony of someone who is saved. To say you need works to be saved is implying Jesus' death was not enough.
Imagine believing Jesus the Son of God & what He did on the cross was not enough to be saved? that's blasphemy.
The Catholics say, "You believe in Christ? Now go head do good thing."
Protestants say, "You belive on Christ? Thats it you are saved."
Is not that what they teach?
But God works with those who are saved. It´s about the salvation. You can´t earn it, it´s a gift.
@@monamuller8969 No (informed) Catholic says they earn it, salvation is through grace alone. It's by His grace that our works have any significance at all, but salvation still requires you to show you're a Christian through your actions, talk is cheap.
Vincent Iormetti I agree. However you’d probably be called a heretic for saying that by a traditional devout Catholic.
As a protestant I believe your are saved by the grace of God alone, you should do good works as a follower of Christ, but you are in no way earning your salvation nor is water baptisms a prerequisite to salvation. I think that some catholic believe but not all, that protestants just require belief in Christ and that's it and you don't have to do anything, which is far from the truth, to be a Christian is to be Christ like, which means to do good works like Christ, to be baptized like Christ. I knew a person that accepted Christ into their life at 9pm on a Saturday went to bed at 10pm, never woke up died in his sleep that night, no good works no water baptism, died in peace knowing the love of God. Lisa Love Ministries nice catch
What you wrote is non biblical , You become christian when you are born again i.e. born out of water and the Holy Spirit.
"If you are saved, then you will do good works." This statement is logically equivalent to "If you do not do good works, then you are not saved." By contrapositive. Good works may not be instrumental to salvation, but they are necessary consequences of it. Therefore "make your calling and election sure".
@Mavors Jesus literally says “you cannot see the kingdom of God unless you are born again.”
I’ve learned to ask the person I’m in disagreement with “will you please show me in the scriptures where it says what you’re saying?” Most will reply “well, this is what I was taught”.
Shameless Papist, really?
Because the word of God is true.
Shameless Papist I’m referring to a persons belief and because the scriptures that we have are the inspired Word of God.

Frank does a huge miscarriage to compare Catholicism to True Salvation as a few minor differences.
yup
The NT gives us EVERYTHING we need to know about who the saved are. There is no confusion, no doctrines of devils or men. God actually WANTS you to question Him. The whole journey as a Christian is wonderful, even in its suffering and trials. My God, His Spirit and His Son are everywhere around me and I see, feel, hear, taste and touch His goodness everywhere I go.

26 FOR JUST AS THE BODY WITHOUT THE SPIRIT IS DEAD, SO FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS ALSO DEAD."
Protestants are pagans, they teach a doctrine taught by Martin Luther. For this reason Jesus says Matthew 15:13-14 "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. 14 Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if one blind person guides another, both will fall into a pit."
At least the catholics teach the bible as it is, but the protestants invent new doctrines and make up stuff.
And did you come from christian background? You seem to know a lot about the bible
You’re implementing scripture that is written to Jews in tribulation with Christians church age and not dividing.
you heard this one right....good works are the fruit of salvation not the root of salvation....Good works are the good fruit that comes out of any born again believer but the works do not save and cannot save because works are zero to God when done out of trying to be self righteous in other words earn good graces,...we do good works because we are saved...period
@@3n197 You can be a good unbeliever but still not saved because you don't believe in Jesus Christ - this is when good works accounts for nothing if we don't have Faith. Because it is expected of us to be fruitful Believers as in the Parable of the Talents and the Parable of the Sower that Jesus gave.

God bless 🙏

What verses are you pulling that from? You think you can practice sorcery, homosexuality, adultery and go to heaven now?
Yes but repentance is possible up until the moment of death. Hallelujah.✝️

Scripture never said you're saved by faith alone. That "alone" was added in.
It says you’re saved by faith without works. Then it says once you’re saved you’re always saved.
So yes faith alone is very much biblical. Try again.
@@alil6547 where does it say one is saved by faith alone exactly?
@@Bassel2112 Ephesians 2:8-9.
Romans 1 through 6. All of Galatians, just read Galatians 3. Basically everywhere.
@@alil6547
It's not basically everywhere.
I’m not Catholic, but I believe good works are necessary because James says that “faith without works is dead”.
@@handsomedevil4928 On that we are agreed. But, since you state you are not a Catholic, I'm sure we will disagree somewhere. So what denomination are you? Or are you nondenominational?
@@myrddingwynedd2751 I’m Church of Christ. Probably the most hated Protestant denomination amongst other protestants.
@@handsomedevil4928 And why would that be?
@@myrddingwynedd2751 there’s a stereotype that we think only Church of Christ go to heaven. Some do think that, but I’d say a majority don’t.
Galatians 1:6-9 tells us that
Well according to your Church yes, but no one outside your Church believes that.

This cleared up a lot of confusion for me, Frank is such a wise man.
"Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work."
Romans 11:5-6 NKJV
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,”. Titus 2:11 NKJV
Here are just a few scriptures to help you:
""But He gives more grace. "Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”" James 4:6 NKJV
"You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace." Galatians 5:4 NKJV
“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;” Hebrews 3:12 NKJV
“And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” John 1:16-18 NKJV
“Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.” Acts 13:38-39 NKJV
“But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.” Isaiah 64:6 NKJV
“For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” James 2:10 NKJV
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 NKJV
“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all," I Timothy 2:5-6 NKJV
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 NKJV
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3:13-14 NKJV
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
“Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,” II Timothy 1:8-10 NKJV
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”Romans 1:16-17 NKJV
“”Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”” John 6:28-29 NKJV
“But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.” Romans 3:21-22 NKJV
“Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them ” (which are offered according to the law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:8-10 NKJV
“What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.” Galatians 3:19-20 NKJV
“Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The LORD will judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:29-31 NKJV
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:1-2 NKJV
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 NKJV
“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10 NKJV
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” I John 1:8-10 NKJV
“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18 NKJV
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6 NKJV
