  • A time lapse video of the Rich Mountain Rd / Old Cades Cove Rd through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The drive starts from Cades Cove Loop, joins onto Rich Mountain Rd, continues towards Old Cades Cove, exits into Townsend, TN and ends at Townsend Visitors Center.
Rich Mountain Road, part of the Cades Cove area in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, offers a scenic drive through lush forests and meadows. The winding road provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains and is often favored for its peaceful ambiance and opportunities to spot wildlife.
Old Cades Cove Road, also located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, offers a historic and less-traveled route through the scenic landscape of Cades Cove. This one-way gravel road provides a glimpse into the past with preserved homesteads and captivating views of the surrounding mountains. It offers a more secluded and rustic experience, allowing visitors to appreciate the natural beauty and cultural history of the area at a leisurely pace.
The video was shot using the TimeLapse feature of GoPro Hero 11 and upscaled to 4K.

Sold my jeep. I have a silverado 4x4 truck. Is the road real bad? My truck isn't lifted or mud tires. Think it would make it? Sits kinda high up on factory setting.

I would be cautious in rainy weather, although I think they just close the road if the weather is bad. Otherwise the road is quite good. Easily doable in a silverado.

Roughly how far is this drive altogether?

The Rich Mountain Rd (unpaved) is 7 miles, and the Old Cades Cove Rd (paved) is 5 miles. So about 12 miles overall.

@@roadtrippinwithtejas8838 looks like you could combine this drive with the other drive you did from the Heritage Center to Sugarlands?

@@timflaherty2731 Yeah. The Rich Mountain Rd is one-way, so the drive is possible from Cades Cove to Townsend to Sugarlands.
