  • Learn how to properly attach a wind-on leader to your double line.
Wind-on leaders eliminate the need for a swivel connection from the double line to the leader. This allows the angler to reel the leader right onto the reel. However, many people attach the wind-on incorrectly. Capt. Anthony Digiulian demonstrates the proper way to attach a wind-on leader.

When you start your instruction with - you have your double mono line (To a group looking to learn how to attach a wind-on) you've started mid-stride. Start a bit earlier in the process?

🔪. Reusing the leader would compromise the new knot 🪢

If you don't know that you need a doubled main line to begin with, you probably need to do more research

Thanks, but you are not "ready to go fishing" until you put a hook on the line. Is the other end also looped? Or do you then need a knot on the other end? Thanks

You either attach your lure to the end, or your swivel. Depends on what kind of fishing you’re doing.

It is quite common in Big Game Fishing to double over your main line for example with a Bimini Twist. This essentially creates a big loop, that some people claim doesn't lose you any line strength ("100% knot"). Depending on how you see it, you either have a very big loop now (to attach stuff like wind-ons) or you can also see that as a "doubled line". If you now use that doubled line for example with a uni knot or clinch knot, both of which are not 100% knots, you still get a 100% connection because your line is doubled (assume clich is ~ 80% line strength, but tied to a doubled over line (200%) you still end up with 160% line strength on the doubled part, which is more than your mainline, so it doesnt become a point of failure)
