Why not just put the towels with the decor for that season instead of storing them all together. Store all the everyday towels in a easily accessible place. Your mom is precious she loves her towels but there has to be some way to organize that chaotic collection. I don’t think putting them together is the way to do that. Take out the decor for that holiday/season and she can put them out then. Time to change season decor pack them back up with the decor and bring out the current holiday/season ones.
My cousin passed 6 years ago and I was executor of her estate. She had so many decorative towels that about 8 of us took towels for every holiday and I gave 4 of my friends and hairdresser a set. I just looked through my decorative towels that I took from her house and realized I too have too many! I’m attached to vintage towels myself.
I just got done talking to mom about this, I just got off the phone with her LOL & I think your 1000% correct, the holiday seasonal towels should go in their own holiday seasonal bin (I do that with my holiday seasonal hand towels too and it works great) that dresser could be used for other things, like her many beach towels LMBO or her many...oh so many blankets LMBO. So im thinking after the holiday season, maybe before Valentines Day, we'll go through her Holiday seasonal tubs (we havent really done that yet) and when we do, we'll place the holiday towels in the holiday bins. Collecting hand towels can be easy to do, there so cute, they come in all different sizes and styles and hand towels, although small, can make a decorative statement in a room, so I totally get why people love & collect hand towels, I too love vintage towels, beautiful style. I try to set a limit of hand towels per season/holiday so I dont go overboard...i'm trying to encourage my mom to do the same LOL. Lots of love ❤❤
That's what I do, I even put my Christmas pajamas/shirts in a vacuum seal bag and store in the attic with some of the Christmas decor that's in waterproof containers. I re-wash everything when I get it down for the season.

From Minnesota I have donated all except for 4 small bathtowels 4 handtowels and 4 wash clothes....I have a washing machine in my home. There are no holiday towels at my house. I simply switch to all red at Christmas..all pink at Easter..
Hey Danni, I love watching you and your mum together as it’s such fun. You are both such polar opposites when it comes to things, with your mum being a moderate maximalist and you a moderate minimalist. Anyway, I suspect your mum is only going to go out and replace some of those older towels she decluttered with new ones, so remember to keep some space free for them. I think your mum will always collect pot holders.

I found myself getting anxious about getting rid of your mom’s good potholders because I completely agree with her! They do not make them like they used to! I wanted to snatch them up and repair them. Some new fabric, a sewing machine and an afternoon and I’d have those babies looking like new!
My mom used to make potholders out of old jeans. Everyone loved getting her potholders for gifts . They seemed so trendy & were especially great to use at outdoors at the grill. I instantly thought:cover those used ones with blue jean material and takecthem to the cabin!

Your mom is my mom but with a sense of humor lol. My mom sees no problem with the amount of items she has. My mom truly believes she's saving the planet by keeping all kinds of crap.
Robyn's face, knowing there were stashes, as you go hunting, HAHAHA. For me, I have two matching pairs for Christmas and maybe two other "decorative" towels. That's it. I have kitchen towels, thin tea towel type things, but even then they don't take up half a drawer. Her talking about how good the old potholders are vs the new potholders....ma'am. MA'AM! Don't think we forgot that blue set you just bought that was shown earlier. Yep, busted. Hey, I have that snowman set that's in the drawer! Robyn, you did a great job. I know it's hard, but think of the laundry you now don't have to do. It's one load less in the house. That's a good thing! RIP Light up hat. You lit up our life. I wonder if she'd like the silicon potholder/trivets. I have a few and they are great. They fit flat in a drawer, you don't have to launder them (just rinse them off or put in the dishwasher), and they can be found to match the fiesta ware. 😂🤣I think she thought I wasnt going to find them or go looking for them, LOL but I did and I didnt even pull ALL the towels out 😮 she has more rags, more wash cloths, more bath & beach towels, and more hand towels, when I say she has more than a JCPenny, I dont think im too far off, she has a thing about towels. That Snowman set is ADORABLE though. I love her towels but oh my gosh, yes...the amount of laundry to keep up with it. We made some progress, but I think we may have to revisit the towels again, next time Ill pull out every single towels she has just so she can really see the amount, Im gonna need a bigger table LOL. And oh my gosh I just seen on Amazon the Silicon Potholders, just yesterday, I just found regular thick potholders but I think she may like the silicon ones. Those are so cool and they can handle up to 500 degrees which is so cool. Im pumped to get back to the basement, as we speak Ian is downstairs painitng, YAY! My mom was also hanging on to a lot of old items that were falling apart & I told her she deserved nice things that weren't falling apart. That helped her part with a bunch of stuff, except a few things that were truly sentimental. Your mom deserves nice things too! I think there's a certain amount of guilt in letting go of things that might technically still be functional. She's doing great though-- those decluttering muscles are getting stronger every day!
I’m with mama Robyn! They bring her joy, and it’s her house/space. She has a right to enjoy her life. She has no responsibility to anyone after she passes. My mom would go shopping and every time we went to Sears or JC Penney’s she would buy new towels and new toilet rugs. Everything had to match. I remember cleaning out her linen closet after she past and had two large garbage bags full of towels and rugs. I donated them to the local pet shelter. They were so happy. Your mom & my mom would've been besties! She is the exact same way; everything has to match everything has to be a set. My mom has a lot of bathmats/rugs, toilet covers etc and they all have matching towels. I remember being a kid and my mom dragging me to sears or JCPenney, I remember every time we went, knowing it was going to be a long shopping session LOL I will say Sears & JCPenney have some pretty dang cute towels and matching sets LOL, I think my mom has them all HA! And I do the same thing, anytime I declutter blankets, towels, etc I donate them to the Animal Rescue Shelter, they love them! Oh your point about boundaries! So good! I do this with Christmas tree ornaments. I love buying new ones so I force myself to donate old ones even though my first choice would be to keep them ALL. If I didn’t set boundaries I’d have 50 bins full of ornaments. I recognize that it could get out of control so I’m careful.

I wanted to update you on the laundry room makeover, I really wanted a drastic transformation but unfortunately with money I don't think that's gonna happen 😢. I do agree with Mama Robin about the older oven mitts and pot holders - I have one from at least 20 years ago that is so plush and thick still! I actually thought of finding someone to make better ones for me. I would have someone recover those pot holders 😂 The new ones are definitely 💩.
Hi Danni I put my towels for seasonal holidays in the bins when I put stuff away for Christmas including the Christmas rugs that get freshly washed dried and put away for the next year I love organizing and decluttering I can find everything just put all her holiday towels in the Valentine, Easter 4th of July,fall,Halloween,Thanksgiving and Christmas bins for your mom to have get rid of the old ones that way your mom can go right to them I love when you and your mom get together it’s always fun love it ❤😍

I have four sets of Christmas towels for the kitchen, and four for the powder room. I change them every night before bed. And just wash and go for the three weeks I decorate. I take down ALL the Christmas decor after my kids open their presents. We need the space, mentally and actually.
Your mom is a hoot! My mom used to 'collect' decorative towels. Yes, they made her happy and yes she used them until they were threadbare. Good thick towels and potholders aren't easy to find anymore. When I inherited them, I let most of them go as I don't put out decorative towels at all. Is this a Minnesota quirk? I think your mom should put her seasonal towels with her seasonal decorations. That way, all seasonal stuff will be together. I'm curious, since your mom likes shopping, has she ever challenged herself to a no spend challenge? Or, keep track of how much money she spends on things she doesn't need? I bet she would be very surprised. Oh my goodness, yes, throw the very beatup potholders away. Now, I will admit, I also like the old potholders and towels as they were made better, last longer and absorb better. I have to giggle. I say this in a nice way, your mom has a lot of hard items. Lol
I totally agree 100% I place my holiday towels in there holiday bin and it works great, I think the reason we thought to put the towels in that dresser is because the dresser is so big and it was empty and she has so, so, oh so many towels lol. But we could use that dresser for other things that would fit/work better there than the holiday/seasonal towels, so I spoke to my mom and I think after the first, maybe before Valentines Day we'll go through her holiday seasonal decor (I dont think we've done that yet?) and we'll place the towels in there holiday bin. Great video..!! I helped my mother declutter 1 year before she passed away. (No regrets... she was 90 and had lived a Great life up to the end! -[ massive stroke]-. ) But it was so much easier to go through her stuff after she passed. We had done the Swedish Death Cleaning and she was brutal.! My sister and I aquired all we wanted and the rest was either tossed or donated. My only suggestion to you would be.. IF your mothers asked you if you wanted it... say YES..!! It shows she is willing to part with it, but she wants to believe its going to a good home. Take it... put it in your garage for a month or so... then slowly take bits of it the donation place. jo

Great job! I might encourage with the one in one out method. My mom and I were guilty of this because most hand towels are inexpensive and give a little dopamine rush because they are cute. I’m not sure about storing them with seasonal because example in the store you may find Christmas towels on sale during Valentines and if yours are in storage you may forget what you have and be tempted to buy more.
For holidays like Christmas 3 or4 is enough surely? 3 hand towels, 3 bath towels, 3 tea towels or 4 of each at a push - I’d donate the rest to community groups, women’s refuge, night shelters etc who could then enjoy them too

My mum always liked to have new towels for guests. It got so that you could hardly close the drawers. I promised her I would house clean the chest, wash out the drawers and line with beautiful paper. I put all the towels on the bed and we counted them. There were about 40 bath towel, hand towel and wash cloth sets. I asked when would we have 40 people over, all taking a bath at the same time? 🤔 With that logic, we were able to keep the ones she loved best and decreased to about 10 sets. They were in like new condition and donated 😊
Regarding the old pot holders: Robin has an excellent point about how they aren't made like they used to be. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Robin sew? If so, I would just take off the old surface layer fabric, keep the batting, make new pot holder covers, and use the batting the stuff the new case. Finish the edges and quilt it all.

Collecting hand towels can be easy to do, there so cute, they come in all different sizes and styles and hand towels, although small, can make a decorative statement in a room, so I totally get why people love & collect hand towels, I too love vintage towels, beautiful style. I try to set a limit of hand towels per season/holiday so I dont go overboard...i'm trying to encourage my mom to do the same LOL. Lots of love ❤❤
That's what I do, I even put my Christmas pajamas/shirts in a vacuum seal bag and store in the attic with some of the Christmas decor that's in waterproof containers. I re-wash everything when I get it down for the season.

From Minnesota I have donated all except for 4 small bathtowels 4 handtowels and 4 wash clothes....I have a washing machine in my home. There are no holiday towels at my house. I simply switch to all red at Christmas..all pink at Easter..
Mom can rotate as much as she wants! It brings her joy in her home! There are so many other things to declutter. You both are such a cute duo!

You are both such polar opposites when it comes to things, with your mum being a moderate maximalist and you a moderate minimalist. Anyway, I suspect your mum is only going to go out and replace some of those older towels she decluttered with new ones, so remember to keep some space free for them. I think your mum will always collect pot holders.

I found myself getting anxious about getting rid of your mom’s good potholders because I completely agree with her! They do not make them like they used to! I wanted to snatch them up and repair them. Some new fabric, a sewing machine and an afternoon and I’d have those babies looking like new!
My mom used to make potholders out of old jeans. Everyone loved getting her potholders for gifts . They seemed so trendy & were especially great to use at outdoors at the grill. I instantly thought:cover those used ones with blue jean material and takecthem to the cabin!
The thing is though, she's not just keeping the old ones... She's buying new ones all the time 🤣

Robyn's face, knowing there were stashes, as you go hunting, HAHAHA. For me, I have two matching pairs for Christmas and maybe two other "decorative" towels. That's it. I have kitchen towels, thin tea towel type things, but even then they don't take up half a drawer. Her talking about how good the old potholders are vs the new potholders....ma'am. MA'AM! Don't think we forgot that blue set you just bought that was shown earlier. Yep, busted. Hey, I have that snowman set that's in the drawer! Robyn, you did a great job. I know it's hard, but think of the laundry you now don't have to do. It's one load less in the house. That's a good thing!

I wonder if she'd like the silicon potholder/trivets. I have a few and they are great. They fit flat in a drawer, you don't have to launder them (just rinse them off or put in the dishwasher), and they can be found to match the fiesta ware.

😂🤣I think she thought I wasnt going to find them or go looking for them, LOL but I did and I didnt even pull ALL the towels out 😮 she has more rags, more wash cloths, more bath & beach towels, and more hand towels, when I say she has more than a JCPenny, I dont think im too far off, she has a thing about towels. That Snowman set is ADORABLE though. I love her towels but oh my gosh, yes...the amount of laundry to keep up with it. We made some progress, but I think we may have to revisit the towels again, next time Ill pull out every single towels she has just so she can really see the amount, Im gonna need a bigger table LOL. And oh my gosh I just seen on Amazon the Silicon Potholders, just yesterday, I just found regular thick potholders but I think she may like the silicon ones. Those are so cool and they can handle up to 500 degrees which is so cool. Im pumped to get back to the basement, as we speak Ian is downstairs painitng, YAY! My mom was also hanging on to a lot of old items that were falling apart & I told her she deserved nice things that weren't falling apart. That helped her part with a bunch of stuff, except a few things that were truly sentimental. Your mom deserves nice things too! I think there's a certain amount of guilt in letting go of things that might technically still be functional. She's doing great though-- those decluttering muscles are getting stronger every day!

My mom would go shopping and every time we went to Sears or JC Penney’s she would buy new towels and new toilet rugs. Everything had to match. I remember cleaning out her linen closet after she past and had two large garbage bags full of towels and rugs. I donated them to the local pet shelter. They were so happy. Your mom & my mom would've been besties! She is the exact same way; everything has to match everything has to be a set. My mom has a lot of bathmats/rugs, toilet covers etc and they all have matching towels. I remember being a kid and my mom dragging me to sears or JCPenney, I remember every time we went, knowing it was going to be a long shopping session LOL I will say Sears & JCPenney have some pretty dang cute towels and matching sets LOL, I think my mom has them all HA! And I do the same thing, anytime I declutter blankets, towels, etc I donate them to the Animal Rescue Shelter, they love them! Oh your point about boundaries! So good! I do this with Christmas tree ornaments. I love buying new ones so I force myself to donate old ones even though my first choice would be to keep them ALL. If I didn’t set boundaries I’d have 50 bins full of ornaments. I recognize that it could get out of control so I’m careful.

Hey friend, I actually liked this style of video where you were at your parents house and yours as well. Your mom did well with decluttering, I know that part is hard for her as she loves her towels!!! Lol. I wanted to update you on the laundry room makeover, I really wanted a drastic transformation but unfortunately with money I don't think that's gonna happen 😢. But not to say it won't happen in the future, however; it's a little makeover (for functionality). But I will take what I can get right now.

I do agree with Mama Robin about the older oven mitts and pot holders - I have one from at least 20 years ago that is so plush and thick still! I actually thought of finding someone to make better ones for me. I would have someone recover those pot holders 😂 The new ones are definitely 💩.

Hi Danni I put my towels for seasonal holidays in the bins when I put stuff away for Christmas including the Christmas rugs that get freshly washed dried and put away for the next year I love organizing and decluttering I can find everything just put all her holiday towels in the Valentine, Easter 4th of July,fall,Halloween,Thanksgiving and Christmas bins for your mom to have get rid of the old ones that way your mom can go right to them I love when you and your mom get together it’s always fun love it ❤😍

I have four sets of Christmas towels for the kitchen, and four for the powder room. I change them every night before bed. And just wash and go for the three weeks I decorate. I take down ALL the Christmas decor after my kids open their presents. We need the space, mentally and actually.

Good thick towels and potholders aren't easy to find anymore. When I inherited them, I let most of them go as I don't put out decorative towels at all. Is this a Minnesota quirk? My mom was from Northern MN. Lol

I think your mom should put her seasonal towels with her seasonal decorations. That way, all seasonal stuff will be together. I'm curious, since your mom likes shopping, has she ever challenged herself to a no spend challenge? Or, keep track of how much money she spends on things she doesn't need? I bet she would be very surprised. Oh my goodness, yes, throw the very beatup potholders away. Now, I will admit, I also like the old potholders and towels as they were made better, last longer and absorb better. I have to giggle. I say this in a nice way, your mom has a lot of hard items. Lol
I totally agree 100% I place my holiday towels in there holiday bin and it works great, I think the reason we thought to put the towels in that dresser is because the dresser is so big and it was empty and she has so, so, oh so many towels lol. But we could use that dresser for other things that would fit/work better there than the holiday/seasonal towels, so I spoke to my mom and I think after the first, maybe before Valentines Day we'll go through her holiday seasonal decor (I dont think we've done that yet?) and we'll place the towels in there holiday bin. LOVE that! And no I dont think shes ever done a no spend challenge before, but I have and it works AMAZING! I should bring that up to her and see if she may be willing to challenge herself. Great video..!! I helped my mother declutter 1 year before she passed away. (No regrets... she was 90 and had lived a Great life up to the end! -[ massive stroke]-. ) But it was so much easier to go through her stuff after she passed. We had done the Swedish Death Cleaning and she was brutal.! My sister and I aquired all we wanted and the rest was either tossed or donated. My only suggestion to you would be.. IF your mothers asked you if you wanted it... say YES..!! It shows she is willing to part with it, but she wants to believe its going to a good home. Take it... put it in your garage for a month or so... then slowly take bits of it the donation place. jo

I swear by the swedish death cleaning method, I especially use it on sentimental items as I need that method for those items. And I couldn't agree with you more, I think that's brilliant, just take the items she asks me if I want, because she is parting with it and that's progress, and like you said after a period of time slowly get rid of it as she'll most likely forget she gave it to me, most likely she won't even miss it. Great job! I might encourage with the one in one out method. My mom and I were guilty of this because most hand towels are inexpensive and give a little dopamine rush because they are cute. I’m not sure about storing them with seasonal because example in the store you may find Christmas towels on sale during Valentines and if yours are in storage you may forget what you have and be tempted to buy more.

For holidays like Christmas 3 or4 is enough surely? 3 hand towels, 3 bath towels, 3 tea towels or 4 of each at a push - I’d donate the rest to community groups, women’s refuge, night shelters etc who could then enjoy them too
Yikes those were a lot of towels that’s for sure!!! You an your mom are hilarious. I wonder if when you are throwing them out she is thinking about how she needs to go to the store to buy new ones 😀. Hence the new ones you found !!!😉❤️

My mum always liked to have new towels for guests. It got so that you could hardly close the drawers. I promised her I would house clean the chest, wash out the drawers and line with beautiful paper. I put all the towels on the bed and we counted them. There were about 40 bath towel, hand towel and wash cloth sets. I asked when would we have 40 people over, all taking a bath at the same time? 🤔 With that logic, we were able to keep the ones she loved best and decreased to about 10 sets. They were in like new condition and donated 😊
Regarding the old pot holders: Robin has an excellent point about how they aren't made like they used to be. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Robin sew? If so, I would just take off the old surface layer fabric, keep the batting, make new pot holder covers, and use the batting the stuff the new case. Finish the edges and quilt it all.
OMG, I feel inadequate, I have total of 7 kitchen towels/washcloths, and 2 potholders. None of which are seasonal. :)
