I have been waiting for you and Woodland to comment on this. First we loved Lazar. He was a blessing to the European CrossFit community. BUT this was pure negligence. He was in distress for five minutes. He took his cap off and the commentators laughed, he changed strokes multiple times - free, back and breast. The commentators mentioned this as funny! He bobbed up and down with no forward movement yards from the end and nobody supported him. He died because he had NO SUPPORT. O divers in the water to support athletes, no paramedics following, no check ups on racers struggling. Only a couple of volunteers. This is not hindsight or woke shit. My condolences to the family. I sincerely hope they would feel comfortable enough to say, "No, I don't want the competition to continue?" That's a major decision (with a lot of pressure) for a family in the midst of a public tragedy.
Thank you for talking about this, I feel like a lot of people (athletes, public, TH-camrs etc ) don´t know how to be respectful by continue doing what they love, whether it is competing, communicating or attending the events. We intentionally didn’t title it anything more condemning because we didn’t feel like this fully told what happened, and didn’t want a “clickbait” title or possibly get people’s thinking that this video explains what happened. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
So difficult guys, tragedy in the community, honour Lazar in the best way you know how and I support that with the greatest respect for Lazar’s loves ones. Sending UK love ❤️
This is pure negligence from crossfit. This is NOT an accident. This is an unacceptable situation. Not only he was in distress and received no help whatsoever but who on earth programms a run before the swim. There is a reason that in triathlons, iron mans, spartathlons etc the swim is always first. If you want to programm something kore complex then use a pool. Unnacceptable from crossfit
Speaking with the family is exactly what they needed to do first. IMO, I think Lazar would’ve wanted the games to continue. You guys are doing a great job of honoring and showing respect. This has happened in other sports where a competitor died doing what they loved. Dale Earnhardt is NASCAR, Lane Frost in PRCA (pro rodeo), and now Lazar Dukic in CrossFit. Keep up the good work guys and may we never forget these great athletes! God bless y’all!!🙏🏻❤️
I have always been a fan of you, and I had the pleasure to meet you all in person at Iron Games 2019 in Utah. I love the way how you always put an amazing energy in what you do best, entertain the public. This story and this competition hits a little different, it’s also sad not to see you jumping up and down as usual, but I have no doubt you will make something amazing and will honor Lazar. I agree we have to come together as a community, we gain nothing out of fight over something that happened and cannot be changed. I am a big fan of Lazar, and rather than being bitter I remember that sports are a risk, a risk that an athlete is willing to take to be the best. Many other sports and events like the Olympics continue even when an athlete gets hurt or dies. All those other athletes deserve to continue competing, they have worked so hard to make it to where they are, as Freddy Mercury said in a song, "The show must go on". Love you guys! ❤
I'm certain that it's hard to continue, but I think it's the correct choice. It's a terrible tragedy. No one expected something like this. Let alone in the fist event at a new location with all the excitement around it. Then everyone went into a fog when what happened unfolded before us in person or on a live stream. RIP Lazar. He'll be remember by the entire community.
while athletes privacy and freedom to grieve should be respected, any footage taken from this weekend in the long run can potentially be a very powerful and supportive thing for the community and for the Dukic family. Seeing how much everyone cared, not just through athletes, fans and familys grief, but expressing respect and trying to honour him in the process of the games. There's been more expression of honour and support with standing ovations, athletes waiting 60 seconds to start workouts, or by not competing - however they are expressing their grief and respect is far greater than us all going our seperate ways and letting time pass in solitude.
Sometimes anger (especially in the pursuit of justice) is justified. We don't know what exactly happened and, until we have an official report from a reputable source that clears CrossFit of any wrong doing, I'm not going to champion the morality of a business continuing to operate despite serious questions about their safety procedures.
@@nickmallett7391 If I had their platform and knowing what we know about the circumstances surrounding Lazar's death (i.e., it seems that there are very real questions regarding CrossFit's negligence in this) I would like to think I'd take a stronger stance demanding that we find out what happened and hold those accountable for any wrongdoing.
The reason why the cries of "continuing the games is the best way to honor his legacy" ring hollow from folks like yourselves is because you have a financial conflict of interest; media, influencers, sponsors, and CrossFit itself will actively lose money if they were to cancel this year's games and that's why many of us do (and should) look at your comments with suspicion. I'm not accusing the Buttery Bros, Goruck, etc. of ill-intent here; They might all genuinely believe that continuing on is the best thing but, due to their obvious financial interests being impacted by a potential cancellation, these organizations can't be trusted to act in good faith.
@@ButteryBros1 I appreciate you acknowledging my point even though it might be uncomfortable. Can I ask if you guys have had conversations with CrossFit HQ and/or any of the sponsors/other media personalities present about the financial implications of continuing on/canceling the event and if that played a role in the decision?
You are correct. The CrossFit Games are how some people provide income for themselves and their families. Whether it be the athletes, media personnel, etc. Times are tough so finances absolutely should be considered in the decision. This goes without saying that it doesn’t diminish how anyone feels about the death of Lazar. I am just a random CrossFit fan watching from home and I felt sick about what happened all day yesterday. One can mourn and also realize others still need to put food on the table for their family at the end of the day. It’s all around a difficult situation. I’ve been praying for Lazar’s family.
WHY is the GAMES still on? Yay u watch…once dust settles a BIG BIG lawsuit is coming. Sadly sometimes that’s what’s needed for meaningful change to happen.
Evaluate Ironman deaths. Even with boats in water. Trailing swimmers. These events have causalities in swims. Cardiac events happen and open water can be dangerous. If you want safe. Keep the competitions in pools.
I feel disgusted and wont be watching the rest of the games as this is being used almost as clickbait and i dont want to be a part of this BIG mistake and irresponsable situation
The fact that canceling the games was even a thought confuses me. A competitor like Lazar would not want that to happen. That said I understand a lot of these athletes are young. 20s-30s. Most have probably not dealt with death or losing someone. Everyone takes it differently.
Even asking the parents to make the call on whether the games should continue or not is disrespectful. What did you expect the family to do? Of course they will say yes in that situation. The lack of criticism of CrossFit HQ by key content creators in the space speaks volumes about your priorities as a brand.
This. People saying his brother said to go ahead is ridiculous. What was he going to do, have a statement released saying he asked them to cancel the games? There's no way that decision should have been put on him within hours of losing his brother.
The fact of the matter is, the confidence in CFG and CFHQ’s ability to ensure the safety of their athletes during events has been severely damaged. That’s the bulk of the issue.
Not surprised you guys are going to support crossfit decision and continue covering the event. Negligence is the only word that should be used and feels this organization is just in for $$$. Very disappointed, unfollowing these guys
Apparently, Lazar had a serious health scare in Dubai in 2022 - he very possibly could have had a cardiac event -- that being said, the lifeguards and emergency staff that was in charge of keeping the players safe are the ones who should be answering for the lack of response, not necessarily CF. I understand everyone's mad, but until the investigation is concluded, and we understand what happened in that water -- everyone is just making assumptions. This is the first time anything like this has happened, CF has done well to take care of the athletes for nearly two decades without incident. It's impossible for anyone or any organization to be perfect 100% of the time and demanding that they be perfect is a standard no one person, or thing, can maintain forever.
when wars are on do you hate on the reporters covering the tragedy? You might find that all the footage and media exposure of athletes and people sharing their journey and their greif during this process could be helpful for the community and for Lazars family to come back to in time and see how much they cared and how much he mattered. But by all means just criticize and unfollow. Very helpful to the situation.

Situation ? Really ? Do you truly think its respectful to Lazar to call his deatha "situation"? It's not like if you were giving an update on where he was... feel ashamed about the title... really 😢
Prayers for the family.
I know is hard to process but it is harder to be brave in a world full of haters or opinions that can make your brand lose value, all I have to say is thank you for your thoughtful and hard work.
They should have cancelled the games straight away as a sign of respect. This is just performative now for sponsors and prize money. The top male and female have quit and no one wants to see competition in these circumstances...
Love you guys, thanks for a beautiful message.💔
Rest in peace to lazar. Very sad to hear this heartbreaking news. Love the support from the community and the tribute. Is anyone else not enraged that this could even happen. He looked to be struggling for quite some time bobbing up and down. What are the lifeguards even there for? I get mistakes happen, but come on, how.....It should be against the law to have a Run then a swim in any sort of organized race. Makes zero sense. wow. Shocked.
We love you guys❤ Keep spreading that ButterJoy! Thanx for this vision on it this is exactly the way we need to processing this great los of a great athlete🖤🕊️
Thank you guys. Lazar was awesome and I was and will be a fan because of him being a Mayhem athlete. Keep spreading BUTTER and LOVE.
Your guys content is second to none!!
Love you guys. Thank you for this ❤
This was so sad! Thank you guys for sharing your heart on this!
Gent...very well said and spot on. Thank you for all you do for the fitness industry, not just CrossFit, but in general too. Meeting you at the Hyrox World Champs and having a few chats was amazing and you guys alway keep it real and this video is just one way that proves that. Integrity, class and quality, over a situation which is tragic. Thanks for all the work you have done so far, it's certainly taught me everything I know about CrossFit.
Love you guys, been rockin' with you since the beginning - met you at Rogue in Austin in like 2022 - I really appreciate y'all taking the time to make a statement and thank you for pushing forward and honoring Lazar with grace and respect. I know this is hard on everyone - sending you so much love 🙏🏼
what a lovely kind reflection from you all. Big hugs and yes indeed keep smiling, he would want that. Love you guys xx
Goodluck guys,..my heart is with you all,.you're all in my prayers

All the love and support to y’all. Keep spreading the joy guys 🫶🏼🥞
Well said my brothers! RIP Lazar, Much love from South Africa❤
Loving you all through this heartache.
Beautifully said. Thank you for sharing ❤
We’ll keep supporting you guys and the community. We all love you guys too.
Please consider changing the title of this video. It was not a “situation”. A man died. A family lost their son and brother. He drowned surrounded by people who did nothing to help him. This is not a “situation”. It is a horrific and senseless tragedy.
I understand you’re frustrated and angry. We intentionally didn’t title it anything more condemning because we didn’t feel like this fully told what happened, and didn’t want a “clickbait” title or possibly get people’s thinking that this video explains what happened. That story is still to be sorted out.
Really all that’s told here is a discussion of a tragedy, and explaining how it’s impacting everyone else onsite based on the timing of the release of the video.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
When you said we Honor Hero’s. 1000%. We do!! I do crossfit for grief and for my mental health. Thank you. Glad we could hear from you
So difficult guys, tragedy in the community, honour Lazar in the best way you know how and I support that with the greatest respect for Lazar’s loves ones.
God bless y’all!!🙏🏻❤️
I hopp it's just called a "situation" so TH-cam doesn't take it down. Otherwise it's just tone-deaf.
Thank you, a lot of people are suffering & please give yourselves so much grace in the next days & weeks, we love ya ❤❤
I love you guys. Praying for you and all involved.
Thank you fellas for what you do, not as content creators but as human beings. Love y’all
Love you buttery bros 🫶 I hope you are healing.
thanks so much for making this guys
Thank you for sharing your positivity and love.
Thanks guys - very thoughtful and respectful words in a time that must be very difficult for you. Keep spreading joy ❤
Well said. Tell someone that you love them today.
Respectful, professional and personal. You are great!
Thank you 🤍 sending love to the Buttery gang
I'm certain that it's hard to continue, but I think it's the correct choice. It's a terrible tragedy. No one expected something like this. Let alone in the fist event at a new location with all the excitement around it. Then everyone went into a fog when what happened unfolded before us in person or on a live stream. RIP Lazar. He'll be remember by the entire community.
Well said 😢 Respect 💔
Thank you for putting this perspective out. Well said - all 3 of you.
while athletes privacy and freedom to grieve should be respected, any footage taken from this weekend in the long run can potentially be a very powerful and supportive thing for the community and for the Dukic family.
And how are you guys doing? Its been a lot to take in. Hope you guys are okay, take care. ❤
Love you guys ❤Thank you for all you do for the fitness community 🫶🏼🧈👐🏼
No hate,no anger,no politics,just love and respect.Well done....You guys are all class!!
Sometimes anger (especially in the pursuit of justice) is justified. We don't know what exactly happened and, until we have an official report from a reputable source that clears CrossFit of any wrong doing, I'm not going to champion the morality of a business continuing to operate despite serious questions about their safety procedures.
Well my comments are all about the Buttery Bro's but hey you can do you and ignore that.
I am so schoked and sad that this Happened 😢.
Well said boys!
Calling this a 'situation' is quite tone deaf...
...and talking about their "product" is also quite tone deaf...
They all should be ashamed of letting man die in front of them
The reason why the cries of "continuing the games is the best way to honor his legacy" ring hollow from folks like yourselves is because you have a financial conflict of interest; media, influencers, sponsors, and CrossFit itself will actively lose money if they were to cancel this year's games and that's why many of us do (and should) look at your comments with suspicion.
I'm not accusing the Buttery Bros, Goruck, etc. of ill-intent here; They might all genuinely believe that continuing on is the best thing but, due to their obvious financial interests being impacted by a potential cancellation, these organizations can't be trusted to act in good faith.
Totally understand your point.
Incident? It was preventable
Love you guys
Well said guys! Keep up the love! ❤
Respectfully said
WHY is the GAMES still on? Yay u watch…once dust settles a BIG BIG lawsuit is coming. Sadly sometimes that’s what’s needed for meaningful change to happen.
Love the informations about the situation currently today awareness
Thank you 🤗
Evaluate Ironman deaths. Even with boats in water. Trailing swimmers. These events have causalities in swims. Cardiac events happen and open water can be dangerous.
If you want safe. Keep the competitions in pools.
All respect and love 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Respect for athletes, yet asking them about it during media questioning after events is the opposite of that.
I feel disgusted and wont be watching the rest of the games as this is being used almost as clickbait and i dont want to be a part of this BIG mistake and irresponsable situation
How can the ensure your safety of the athletes when it was so clearly lacking, they can’t have reviewed it that quickly
@@BrianKim-ih4qh its clearly not about the athletes either. Who cares if they die.
Don Faul should step down
Well done!
The fact that canceling the games was even a thought confuses me. A competitor like Lazar would not want that to happen. That said I understand a lot of these athletes are young. 20s-30s. Most have probably not dealt with death or losing someone. Everyone takes it differently.
Love you guys ❤
Thank you 🙏🏼
Even asking the parents to make the call on whether the games should continue or not is disrespectful.
I’ll point fingers and both of them are my middle fingers at the two “lifeguards “ end of story, looking forward to the vids guys
The fact of the matter is, the confidence in CFG and CFHQ’s ability to ensure the safety of their athletes during events has been severely damaged. That’s the bulk of the issue.
@@842_Hooligainz it’s worse than that,
Not surprised you guys are going to support crossfit decision and continue covering the event.
@@LaceyMediaProductions I’m not mad, just angry at the obvious cost cutting that prevented adequate safety. This was a preventable tragedy caused by negligence.
I really like you guys but the way the death of our fellow European is called an accident or an incident makes me feel CFHQ and it's puppets are trying to sweap things under a rug.
Reading the Luka's post and other athletes posts makes me things confirm this for me.
...at the least call it a "travesty"
Love you guys!
Its Devistating! Everything you guys are saying is correct. It was negligence crossfit f***** up big time .But lets just PRAY and remember in the end We all have our time to leave this Earth. We don't know when!!! Yesterday. Was our brother lazar❤....it was his 'time To be in heaven ❤❤❤❤
