Exactly. When he was alive, it would've been mostly used on victims that were way less capable than Freddy himself. The fact that it's not really that effective actually gives off a lot of worrying implications about both it's use and user.
@ericlaw1993 Plus Jason's like 6'8 and built like a tank. Freddy gets his ass kicked by girls once they stop being scared of him. Everytime people start to fight back his gets clapped. I'd rather fight Freddy than Jason personally.
Another good breakdown. I just want to add the thing to note about Freddy's Glove is that when alive it wasn't used as a weapon more as a tool to scare and torture his victims. It's only when he becomes (a fear fueled) dream demon that he begins to actually weaponize it. The point about broken fingers is a good one but as mentioned Freddy has supernatural powers. As we see in the first film Freddy can lop of his own fingers for a laugh and be none the worse off. In addition to being a lot tougher than he should even in the real world.
Also he spends a majority of his time in the dream world. He can definitely weapon use it so it can’t hurt him a bit. I’m sure when when he’s out of dreams he’s immune from it damaging him.

Not only is it a torture device rather than a weapon (as someone already pointed out) , but when he DOES use it as a weapon, he does so in the context of dream world/dream power. It becomes more like a mythical item at that point (like wolverines claws wouldn't actually work in real life like they do in comics)
The original Freddy glove blades were from fillet knives that are straight along the sharp edge, not curved inward like this one. You could definitely stab with them. You'd probably hurt your own wrist or fingers at the same time but it would be easier than with the dramatic claw shaped blades this version has.
I agree, at an industrial grade, the knife glove would be strong enough to protect the fingers aswel as to attack and cut flesh and bone. Depends on the design of the crafter.

Your comments about scratching your face made me think of the villain Kuro from One Piece. He uses similar glove blades and has a habit of pushing up his glasses with his palm to avoid hurting himself. Any One Piece (live action) breakdowns coming up?
Just to emphasize the hurting yourself point; Robert Englund did just that multiple times while filming Nightmare films. In fact, I recall him telling a story for a documentary show where he said literally the first time they put the glove on him, he almost immediately cut himself.
And then there's Mortal Kombat 9 Freddy (Which I somehow confused with Reboot Freddy) who has two of these, one on each hand, nevermind the victims dreams, the real nightmare would be trying to take them off.
For anyone who doesn't know, the reason he had two gloves in mk was cuz as characters switched sides, the stance would need to change as to keep the characters front facing the camera and two gloves was easier to use than have him constantly switch which hand the glove is on.
The parts around freddys fingers are made from copper and would stop his fingers from going back far enough to break. Well, it would at least give a bit more resistance than a normal human joints.
When I first got into the Nightmare movies as a teenager, my dad and I had a discussion on how effective and practical a weapon like Freddy's glove would be. So cool to see your video discussing the same thing!
I'd like to add: Having an array of multiple (more or less) parallel blades like this is undesirable because it distributes the cutting power evenly among the individual blades across a larger surface area. That is to say, each of the four finger blades you use to slash you opponent only gets a fourth of the cutting power of, say, a single knife performing the same motion. To use another pop-culture example: The Marvel comics superhero Wolverine has three metal claws on each hand, but if he was smart about it he would only use one of them (likely the one protruding between his index and middle knuckle) when attacking since this would concentrate the power behind his attack to just that one blade.
The cool thing about Freddy's glove to me is that he doesn't even need it. He can create anything out of nightmares. The glove is purely just for style, and it's perfectly him. So good.
Loved Freddy ever since I was about 9-10 yrs old. I dressed up as him in 5th grade. Always loved his knife gloves too, freakin scary! Thanx for showing the pros of this weapon! There were no cons when Freddy used it! 😊
In an interview with Robert Englund on Access, he mentioned that in Part Five, he actually punctured his left wrist with one of the blades while diving at Lisa Wilcox, as she was running through the church of hell, and in order to save her, Englund got himself through the wrist.
Yeah it is a cool killer weapon & very unique for the time period in slasher movies. My cousin & I was talking about it back in the day - Freddy could've shorten the blades to fix the problem also be a much better weapon for him as the user. 💀
Seeing as how Freddy lives in people's nightmares and feeds off of fear the glove is perfect for him. Now if he were to come back into the real world he'd be screwed.
I, along with many other people, used to own that toy version for a Halloween costume. Minus the hat, mask, and shirt. Long gone.... I think it broke and was modifiedly made into Wolverine's claws, lol. "If only it's made for both hands," is what I used to think when I received it back then...
I've always felt that the razor glove was cool in concept but in terms of effectiveness it's basically zero honestly it would probably be a better idea to pick up some tekko kagi claws.
If someone was coming at me with a Freddy glove and they're wearing that sweater I'd just say "in the original 'Nightmare' the sleeves weren't stripped."
Looking at the way the glove is made Im not sure you have to worry about breaking a finger. It doesnt really allow for flexion past the plane of the back of the hand. I do think you can stab with it as well as there are a multitude of bladed weapons that allow for thrusting and the blades arent too curved for that. However, it is limited in that you can only get so deep a slice because the blades are on the fingers. If you cannot execute a good stab then you will be looking at death by a thousand cuts via blood loss. Which might in fact serve Freddy’s purpose as he is a cruel killer who gets off on the pain of others. Also thicker clothing like a leather or winter jacket could be an excellent baffle against the efficacy of both stabs and slashes with this weapon. As noted its a weapon with a high intimidation factor vs the untrained. Id rather have a sturdy knife in hand myself.
In terms of fighting and killing, it's more so meant to slash the throat, face, and back, or stab the gut and eyes (and inbetween the ribs if he can land it). He's avoiding the bonier bits on you if he can help it, since he can't tear through bone with it outside of the dream. He also tends to be more of an ambusher than a tank or martial artist.
In fairness, if you watch his kill scenes closely when he goes for the heart: The glove seems to have a locking mechanism that fixes the blades to combat the breaking your hand thing.
I remember a comedy sketch from my youth that kinda highlighted a weakness of the freddy glove. It started with a shot of a mens public bathroom, normal stuff happening, some guy washing his hands or whatever and then just a rising blood curdling scream rises from nowhere. As the scream ends, freddy staggers out of a stall, pants half down, glove covered in shredded toilet paper and stumbles out the bathroom.
In life, Fred Krueger used the glove as a torture device on his victims. In death, not only did he still predominantly use it as a torture device, but also as a weapon because of his supernatural abilities. In real life, it may be possible it can fatally slice, though not good for stabbing except for in the gut, probably. His main trick is to strike fear into victims. And once he has you, the more powerful he his. Great video! 😊

He didn’t really use it as a weapon when he was alive, he used it to frighten and torture innocent children that couldn’t fight back. In the dream world he can do just about anything so it works as a weapon there.
