Good old fashioned analog electrons from back in my day. Great stuff. Most people I know do not eve know what a scope looks like.

Looks like you guys have solved the problem (or more like worked out a solution). I had what might be a different problem with a detector system that sent a pulse when a carrier went past a detector.
The problem was the detection pulse was so short that the system could not register it. We installed some pulse extenders that kept the signal for up to five seconds (we tuned it to two). Although it was a 24 volt system it could probably be applied to your problem as you run on half wave (for each car) and by using two extenders per track wired forward pulse and reverse pulse for the supply sine wave. So the first car would forward bias one extender which would prolong the signal so that the recording system could measure it and since the other extender on the same track would be reverse biased it would not send a pulse until the car of the opposite polarity came over the detection zone. You would just need to make the detection zones long enough so that a car could not cross the zone in less than one cycle. However, it looks like you guys have it cracked.
By the way, good to see you are still doing magic!
