I forgot to measure (per usual) but if I had to guestimate, it was about 4 1/2 cups chopped dandelion that I roasted along with the two sticks of cinnamon and 2 star anise pods. It made about 3/4’s of a pint of powder.
I definitely want to try this. I love your idea about adding the cinnamon sticks/star anise! How long do you think you can store ground dandelion once you grind it up? Also, when do you think is the best time to harvest dandelion roots? That's such an lovely basket and blue bowl you use in this video - could you recommend where I could something like those? Thanks so much for another wonderful video - so glad I found your channel! :)
Thank you! You can harvest dandelion root at anytime, though some say fall is the best. I do not know how long the dandelion coffee lasts but I’ll let you know when/if it finally goes bad. My other dried herbs last a year so I suspect it would be no different for roasted herbs. My husband made the copper handle basket in his wood-shop especially for me. The blue enamel dish basin you can get at some camping stores, country supply stores or potentially even Walmart or tractor supply, but they are becoming more rare.
Dandelion root coffee does not on its own contain caffeine, so it won’t help with tiredness in that sense. However, over time dandelion root can help with general sluggishness related to the liver and kidneys. It’s considered a tonic for these organs. If you still need the caffeine, you can cut your regular ground coffee with dandelion and use it as a healthy coffee extender. :)
Hmm, I suppose you could, much like when I eat too much icecream! If your body is not used to it as a food, it can be laxative in quality. It is considered a very safe food, eat as much of it as you would kale or salad greens. If you get bloaty, start with smaller amounts until your body’s enzymes and gut bacteria get acquainted with it. :)
Im gonna have to try this. I love the star anise and cinnamon idea.
