Not sure what 'building up a tolerance over time' means. Also, how long on average does it take to get the best results as a new user of ($11,500 Oticon) hearing aids? Thanks, A in SA

Hearing aids suck in noise these days, they just make you not hear anything and it just suppresses all sound

Then you have the wrong hearing aid, or the hearing aid isn't closely enough configured to match your particular hearing loss. My hearing aid, admittedly a top of the range device, does a very good job of bringing voices to the foreground in noisy environments. Especially when using its 'speech in noise program'.

@@Andre-zd8ke Mine are programmed properly but in general with any hearing aid I have ever had, they always lower everything down in noisy environments,.. I think the best way to fix it is taking off those automatic settings.. Mine also are "admittedly a top of the range device",.. but I have never heard of a device that does well I background noise,.. I have tried many hearing aid manufactures, and the best device I had was the lyric but im not a candidate for it unfortunately so I had to switch, and so far I have had best luck with Widex as a musician despite the fact that the automatic settings in hearing aids are always horrible. You need an analog device that doesn’t change settings in order to actually hear and those devices don’t exist anymore :(
