  • Last month, our founder Dua Lipa joined the reading group at HMP Downview, a women’s prison in Surrey, England. The visit was at the invitation of Books Unlocked, a partnership between the Booker Prize Foundation and the National Literacy Trust that supports people in prisons and young offender institutions to read for enjoyment and strengthen their literary skills. Dua joined the women in a conversation about their shared love of books, how reading helps build friendships and community, and how it can help prepare the women for life beyond prison.
Books Unlocked was set up 12 years ago and now operates in 95 prisons in the UK and Ireland, with over 15,000 books donated to the programme. Several Booker Prize-nominated authors have visited prison reading groups as part of the project.

This is so wonderful :). She seems to be the rare celebrity who actually uses her platform to both bring more awareness to causes/issues that don't receive nearly enough attention & genuinely cares about helping people in all walks of life. Humanity desperately needs more of this.

I am so amazed to Dua ever since I saw and heard her singing back in 2017 and as time goes especially in 2020 future nostalgia my admiration for her became deeper❤. As a man, I feel so inspired to a woman like Dua Lipa, I've been dreaming of meeting her since her debut album but now that she is big in the music scene, I still hope to see her personally and greet her. Besides, Dua makes me more focused on how to build myself, like reading a book, and dreaming who I wanna be. I do hope to meet this lady, the songstress Dua Lipa and to have a wife like her that will love me so tenderly❤.

really proud of Dua making an effort to help and connect with underprivileged people. Being oppressed all your life by the upper and middle class really crushes the spirit but seeing privileged people like Dua make an effort does restore some hope.

too scientific to actually argue much about what is happening between the lines of solitude and madness... it is frustating, but also some sort of wisdom involved
