One think I really like about the 22 Hornet is that it uses pistol powder and used so little powder. About a third (Starting Loads) to half (Max Loads) the charge weight of 223 loadings makes a pound of powder last a lot longer and with prices being the way they are, thats a good feature! Its also really different looking to most common cartridges to its easy to find your brass and that brass lasts a good long time too. 22 Hornet is super economical!

In South Africa I have shot jackal, duiker and steenbuck and the hornet worked really well.

I love the 22 hornet. I have a small farm in Australia and also hunt in New Zealand my old country. Where it is great is small game and pests rabbits, hares, cats, wild dogs, small pigs etc. At the farm we knock over our cattle with it, our cattle are Dexters so not a large beast in New Zealand you can add wallabies, Arawapara sheep and even Chamois out to 200 metres

A really good, no nonsense review and comparison between the .22 hornet and other mentioned calibres.
From its history...To detailing the pros, cons and best uses for the .22 hornet.
I run a Cz527 in .22 hornet and very much agree with your uses, accuracy, ranges and targeted game/pest animals.
Great work, and keep the very informative reviews/comparisons coming John!! 👍😁

I have a Browning model 1885 in 22 Hornet and it is deadly accurate. Great for coyotes up close and even smaller hogs with precise head shots. Only problem is, in these times, ammunition is somewhat hard to find and has gotten rather expensive compared to what it used to be.

Easy to reload for, and very cheap. A pound of powder goes a long ways

@@nk-dw2hm Yup. Uses almost half the powder of a 223.

I love my 22 Hornet. It fills a nice niche between the 22LR and the .223, while being reloadable versus the 22 mag. I have had several, and found that either a gun shoots very accurately or very inaccurately with the Hornet. Also, the brass is quite fragile and doesn't like being over worked. But, it is a great cartridge at modest ranges for coyotes, foxes, bobcats, rabbits, and even turkey with FMJ bullets. I especially like the mild report. Great video, it sounds like we have basically the same experience.

The cases are indeed quite thin. I've had superb case life though when using a Lee collet neck sizing die. Sizes the neck enough to hold a bullet, but not so much that you are in serious risk of collapsing the case neck. I don't crimp mine because Lil'Gun is a compressed load and if you have enough recoil to get bullet setback in a 22 Hornet, you have bigger issues that need to be investigated. Lil'Gun operates at such low pressure, yet gives such high velocities that I feel that it helps the case life as well.

When I got out of the army, I always wanted a 22 hornet rifle, that was back in 2005. I finally got one 5 years ago. Now I have 2 of them, my latest is the ruger 77/22 hornet.

I’ve thought about a 22 Hornet a number of times but then I compare the availability of 223 Remington and I always back off the Hornet. Maybe, if the ammo situation ever improves; right now I only see the same dozen calibers and the 22 Hornet isn’t one of them!
    Great video!

22 hornet has been rather expensive and hard to find for awhile. I load for it. Wouldn't have ever looked into it but inherited my rifle from my great grandfather. Obviously have to be able to shoot it!

Yea, the economy of the 22 Hornet only shows itself nowadays when you handload it.

Hornady dropped the loading data in their newest edition. But Ruger has recently introduced a super redhawk pistol in the 22 hornet

Magnum is my favorite..and I’ve shot a lot of calibers. That thing always seems to impress me, so many different ammo options in different grains, it all is very different. I want the hornet bad

11:38 They've lowered this down to 3070 fps now, I guess they can change box velocities so long as its not on a 7 PRC without RL26

i have the cz 527 and a 1949 winchester 43 in 22 hornet, i prefer the 43 but the CZ is quite nice. Its the pleasant cartridge to shoot with but its a little more tricky to reload.

Ive killed many blacktail deer with the hornet. That being said, ive also passed up a few because of not a good opportunity for a ear shot. Also great video. You definitely know your shit. Thanks

Love my 22K Hornet on my TC Encore. Prairie dogs not safe out to 250 yds easily and coyotes up closer.

Another great video John. If you would include .22 savage, it would be better. However, have learned many things. I learn everything about rifle from your Channel. By the way, i want an information from you. Do you have any idea about the book- Death in the long grass? How is the book? Is it possible to get a soft copy of this book from web?
