    Walk around the town for 10mins, visit literally the worst places and then try and summarise? Speak to nobody, slag a building off when it's a night club, walk down backstreets and then go back to your car because its raining and your wearing a sponge for a jacket. You've seen about 2% of the town mate, top effort

      You aren't wrong. He has missed out most of the borough. Hasn't gone near where the nice housing is or even over to Walney that has the most beautiful sunsets. From the other side of it you can look straight over the fells. Bit of a hatchet job done here. The front he went to is just the industrial area at the waterfront. What was he expecting to see on an industrial estate.

    Every town has the good and bad. Barrow is a town with great history and has provided so much for the industrial business. Yes it is run down in parts but that can be said for most places. I lived in Barrow
    Back in 2003-2005
    I loved the town
    Really good people; honestly great sense of humour
    Walney island was fantastic
    I only left cause me and my partner were having our first child.
    We both loved Barrow.
    Dalton has loads of amazing pubs
    On a nice day Barrow is fantastic. Really beautiful views.
    We were made so welcome and had a great time.

    Hi, thank you for visiting our lovely little town. The beautiful building opposite the market hall entrance that you went in is the town hall. Both the market and the forum (the local theatre place) are getting a refurbishment. There are lots of lovely areas to visit, Walney, Roa Island/Piel Island, Roanhead, the dock museum (opposite the main shipyard building), the furness abbey and the main park are definitely worth seeing. The majority of people are friendly. Just like anywhere else, Barrow has its good and not so good places.

    I've lived in Furness for over 20 years and live up the road from Barrow now. Fair enough Barrow isn't that great anymore but you didn't want to look at any of the decent stuff. You spent ages looking down the backstreets of Barrow Island which is made for the shipyard and is only home to some of the workers and their families. You could've gone to Walney with all the walks on the island, gone to Roanhead and Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve and looked at all the wildlife there, gone to the Abbey and had a look around there, gone on the coast road to get an ice-cream from Roy's, everyone's favourite ice-cream man in South Cumbria, you could've even got a boat to Piel Island, got a drink and a meal and met the King!

  • @ThianBrodie
    @ThianBrodie ปีที่แล้ว +16

    You should have visited, Walney Beaches, Piel Island, Furness Abbey, Barrow Park, The Coast Road, all within Barrow. The areas you have visited mate, yes look grim on a cloudy day from the outside, however....Barrow people make Barrow. The communities in the different areas all look after each other mate, it is a safe place to live, but like anywhere else has the odd bad apple! Unlike other areas of the country, we actually talk to each other and watch each others backs. Similar to other towns, what has happened in Barrow as well as COVID and Online retailers, is the outside retail parks have took the business away from the town center, Council have been granted I think 21 million to redevelop the town, a project starting this year. Barrow has many quirky bars..you just need to know where they are haha :-)

    The town was established because of the shop building (vickers as it was once known) so lot of big buildings. The area you started in Barrow island is pretty run down but strong sense of community it looks lousy but I love it as loads of friendly people all looking out for eachother. The town centre is a right mess when you came out the market you would of seen a lot of shut shops if you had gone straight instead of right thanks to the council

    It's not as bad as people make out. Night life is pretty good, ulverston 10 mins away is better for a quiet drink. Plenty of money in the town with the wind farms, bae and supporting businesses I'd imagine the average wage is much higher than most places but so is the poverty, its definitely sink or swim town in terms of making a life for yourself. The town has suffered the same fate as most with the online shopping boom and skint council's raising prices. Plenty of nice places to live around barrow too, and as someone commented beaches at walney are pretty good. Historic industrial town, might not be the prettiest but its inhabitants are very proud!!

    Thanks for showing the few streets in Barrow-in-Furness Cumbria (not Lancashire) that are not very nice. They build nuclear submarines so they aren't going to put them in the beautiful areas where the houses are near Furness Abbey. We have the Doc Museum which would help you more understand the big history of Barrow. It started in Iron or then ship building then submarines. The Church is a listed Town Hall. The markets and immediate area are due to all be updated. Shops are bad now in the 70' and 80's it was a bustling town. The people are known for being friendly. It's such a shame what has happened lots of listed buildings abandoned. Walney Island part of Barrow has some lovely beaches.

    Lad from Barrow here, town is run down especially the town centre many shops have closed especially in Portland walk due to vandalism. The reason the "arcade" and the market look run down and empty is because they are currently undergoing huge renovations, a project that is costing a few million to upgrade the town centre so many stores have exited and more will until it's complete. The large building is BAE they build nuclear submarines for the Royal Navy and is a Ministry of Defence site, filing around there can actually be a bit iffy as armed police and even the military have been called on occasion. Almost the entire town is a no fly zone due to this and the airport on Walney. It's definitely seen it's better days but since COVID it's gotten a lot worse, back in 2018 most of the shops were full and there was very little vandalism to the buildings.

    • @LawfullSpook
      @LawfullSpook ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll add this here too as I forgot to mention it but the "arcade* and the buildings next to B&M are closed due to the renovations as they are being demolished which is why there is sales on. Manhattan is actually a very large night club and open late same with the theatre bar they might seem closed but they are still in use. Night life is ok but nowadays it's full of drunk chavs The police are always out in full within that street and I can guarantee every night a fight breaks out and someone is arrested.
