the 'coincidence' in L2 at the end of the season was probably worth a shout - Bristol Rov needing 7 goals to get promoted ahead of Northampton - then proceeding to beat Scunthorpe 7-0 with Scunny playing the youngsters in the game.
To add to the "coincidence", Scunthorpe got extra money from a transfer they'd agreed- if Bristol Rovers got promoted!

Now that Roma are about to start the 2nd part of the season. It's a good time to analyse their situation and Jose's ideas and tactics since he got there.
Last season Jose did not really change a lot in the system because it was the first year he just added a few typical jose details. Turning them into a much more aggressive team fighting for every ball and having higher pressing. Roma got more cards than everyone else last season including jose himself who got 4 red cards
He also made sure they could counter attack well. ( you can watch highlights of the 4-1 win against atalanta the 4 - 0 win over bodo glimt or both legs against leicester city in the conference league for counter attack masterclasses)
Roma was very tight defensively and balls were thrown to Tammy Abraham who had a prolific season scoring 27 times. They finished the season 6th and won the conference league.
This season however jose has a much clearer ambition. He wants roma to control the midfield battle more which is why he took Dybala to bring some fluidity in attacking transition with zaniolo who is the other very technical player. Then he took Wijnaldum for defensive cover. Jose has said many times that he admired the klopp system at Liverpool which was just not ineffective ball possession but strong defending. High pressing and midfield control and always admired wijnaldum in that system. And to complete that midflief obsession he took matic as an experience leader. Not fast clearly but very clever and rarely looses the ball. So there is a nice balance along with pelligrini the club captain who is a typical playmaker. Not too young not too old.
The issue is that jose hasn't had the chance to try that team a lot yet as wijnaldum dybala and zaniolo were often injured but when they all played it did bring very attractive football in midfield with a great partnership between dybala zaniolo and Tammy Abraham. But if one or two are missing the level drops significantly which jose has talked about to the board.
Another big aspect of Jose's roma is youth talent. Jose has turned zalewski into a regular first team player which gave him the opportunity to go to the world cup with Poland this year. He's been a breath of fresh air under mourinho. He also took Bove from the academy and turned him into a bench player who often comes and impact the game in midfield.
So Currently roma are 7th but only 3 points from 4th place with everything still very much open (except for 1st place napoli are too far away) and they have qualified for the last 32 of the Europa league which is a huge ambition for jose who loves European tournaments

@@lankydosser541 They did last season especially the first few months then jose realized he didn't have the players to do that and changed the system. That's why he took someone like wijnaldum who was used to high pressing at Liverpool. And actually if you watch their goals against inter this season you can see high pressing in full effect so they still do it often

Irish Guy you got the Reyna situation all wrong. The reason Reyna didn't put in as much effort into training was because he was told before the WC that he would have a limited role in the squad. If anyone who was one of the best players for their national team was told that, I think they would have done the same thing. Regardless Berhalter was also making excuses for not playing him during the competition, like saying he was injured despite Reyna himself saying he wasn't. Berhalter just started a war against Reyna during the WC and exacerbated the issue by bringing the whole situation out to the public. A majority of the fanbase, icons of the USMNT and people in power positions at the USSF have actually come out in support of Reyna. Reyna wasn't the problem, Berhalter was. Reyna even apologized for his actions at the WC after the situation came out.

imo a funny moment this year was during the Australia-Peru playoff match where Australia's goalkeeper was DANCING during the penalties (successful), and the day later FIFA puts a rule that doesn't allow goalkeepers to this, where they must have both feet when the player is going up to kick

Not *that* weird, the Foxes *have* won the Premier League. Plus, since winning 4-0 against rivals Nottingham Forest, they've only lost thrice as of writing. Two of which came against oil clubs. The third was against a club formerly managed by the manager of one of the aforementioned oil clubs, who they also lost to last time they played at that stadium (in fact, they've never won at that stadium in the Premier League - P6 D2 L4).

There's more to the Giovanni Reyna thing when he got off the bus or the plane to meet Greg after getting to guitar he was told he wouldn't play so he said OK I won't practice doesn't exactly excuse his actions but when you told you can't play no matter what you do why would you care against a Qatari side

Disagree about Rooney. He got the derby team to fight hard against relegation under incredible difficult circumstances. He showed loyalty that the qpr ex manager was ripped for. If he went to Everton and got relegated Irish guy would be ripping him for 2 relegation in a season. Reyna - he was told by Berhalter before the WC even kicked off he wasn't getting on the pitch, wasn't gonna be used, absolutely not starting, like honestly, no one in that situation would bother trying
A-League - this one is a complete fucking mess, sadly the incident at the Melbourne derby meant there's 0 chance that the stupid af decision will get overturned, but essentially the A-League grand final, which decides the winner of the Australian season, is always at the higher team's home ground (so the league starts as a table, then a round robin between the top however many teams, say if 2nd and 5th make the final, it'd be at the 2nd placed team's ground) but the APL made the hugely unpopular decision of moving the next 3 all to Sydney, so say in that 2nd and 5th hypothetical I mentioned earlier, say if Adelaide United finished 2nd, and Sydney FC finished 5th and they both made the GF, suddenly all advantage Adelaide earned is gone

22:00 The reason for Pique's sudden departure is because the Spanish courts brought in new rules that footballers can no longer own clubs that they may play against in the same league or in a cup. I'm surprised that wasn't the case already TBH. Pique owns Andorra, which is in the Spanish 2nd division, contenders to soon be in the top division, and of course could have played Barcelona in the Copa del Rey already this season. So he left. But the funny thing was (and it serves him right TBH for cheating on Shakira) he was meant to come on in the second half in his final, goodbye match, but was sent off while still on the bench before being able to come on. Priceless. Love it. He's also embroiled in a huge scandal regarding financial kickbacks with getting the Spanish Copa to be played in Saudi, loads of dodgy phone messages leaked to the press etc. It was all getting messy, embarrassing for Barcelona, PLUS the risk of Barcelona drawing Andorra in the upcoming Copa del Rey, it all became too much. Oh and Pique had another stupid moment looking back on his recent career, in which he mistakenly tweeted his private mobile phone number to, like, EVERYBODY. He had to cancel it, and it was a lovely number too, probably cost quite a lot to get it as it was a very cool number. Can't remember it now, but I'm sure it was dialled by thousands of people that day. As my auntie would have said, "not the full shilling, that lad."
