    I've been suffered from knee and ankle pain for years. Can't do much diverse physical activity. Almost gave up distance running(even 5k) soccer and basketball. Ironically found that sprinting actually reduce pain on knees dramatically, especially hill sprinting.

      That’s incredible, how did you find out hill sprinting was worth trying for your knee pain?

    • @PhilMante
      @PhilMante 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Probably because the constant tugging & pulling on the muscles is damaging them so the body has to repair itself... including joints & bones, which likely take a beating too. You're breaking it so it can heal.

    • @TactlessGuy
      @TactlessGuy ปีที่แล้ว +29

      From what I've observed, it's the dynamic, high-intensity movements (sprinting) that are good for your joint health, while low-intensity repetitive movements like jogging and walking are bad. One thing I noticed was that shortly after starting boxing training, which requires a lot of HIIT movements, my joints starting feeling great. My knees felt like they were freshly oiled and my back pain was gone. I think these dynamic movements that stretch our muscles and joints to their limits help to strengthen the dozens of tiny weak points in our body that are neglected when doing repetitive, isolated movements.

    I run uphill 3-5 times a week, about an hour. It's a killer exercise. Never been healthier in my life. Combining that with bodyweight exercises and some moderate weight exercises. Cardio is from another planet, and i like it. It's efficient and takes so little time.

    • @FireFirePow
      @FireFirePow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      How do you space out your sprints? As in, how long do you rest?

    • @djoleluk
      @djoleluk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@FireFirePow I run very moderate routs a couple of times a week, not to much. 100 meters sprints, about 70-80% of my max effort, 10 times in one session, in the evening. And sometimes i take about 1 minute rest in between each sprint, and about 2 minutes rest on every 3-rd sprints, dependable on how i feel that day. The hill where i run is very steep. Almost vertical at one point. It takes me about 30 minutes - 45 minutes to complete the training, not more. It doesnt drain me or makes me tired at all and i feel great after an hour rest. This moderate cardio training affects my whole body the right way. I increased my cardio just enough so i can lift weights and do my strength training in the summer without feeling gassed out at all, and yet i do not lose any muscle mass from the running. So that kind of regime fits for me perfectly.

      Did the sprints change your body? I'm trying to keep the muscles I gained bulking and cutting the fat out with hill sprints

    • @djoleluk
      @djoleluk ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@joaopedrom5365 Well, to keep muscle mass you must have a resting period. When i first started running, i did it for about 3-4 days a week until i built my cardio, which took me maybe a few weeks to a month. In that period i did get a bit leaner and strengthened my legs. After that, to balance my muscle mass, i cut it to running 2 days a week, and 2 days of my regular strength and weight training, and 3 days rest in between. Now i have perfect balance of cardio, muscle and strength. My goal wasnt to become a sprinter, only to improve my cardio for other excercises. So to keep muscle mass and additionaly built it up , a few days of rest does wonders. So 4 days high intensity training, with 2 days of running sprints uphil, and 3 days rest gives great results. That works for me.

    Sprinting and hill running is a great workout, and excellent for building muscles in the butt and thighs. It's not good to run downhill, though, as that puts a lot of strain on the joints, especially the knees. Sprinting on grass, dirt or sand is best, as it's more forgiving to the body, yet harder to do.

    I remember me and my mom first moving to england, bristol to be specific, we are american, we were blown away by how many ANCIENT old ladies we saw walking up hill with ALL OF THEIR GROCERIES practically miles back to their homes. We were unaccustomed to this, being americans of course, all our roads are long, straight, cut into squares, basically built to be easy and everything is spread out so American transportation is heavily car dependent.
    Me, a little kid supposedly full of energy, and my mom, who was in her late 20s, were basically blown out of the water by these 60-70 year old ladies walking up steep ass hills carrying pounds of groceries.
    After a year or so it became no problem, we did our shopping this way, and ......well we were pretty healthy for it.
    We have since, years ago, moved back to the USA.
    And are unhealthy as shyt for it lol.
    It was nuts to see people of such advanced age do what basically our side of the same age would die doing. American old people have one whole foot and an extra toe already in the grave at all times.
    Old british ladies with no cars could probably bust doors in with a kick like a swat team entrance.

Then the same year I retired last year in 2021 in August I had two heart-attacks at the same time and quad by-pass surgery. I have worked hard and Incorporated HIIT and BURST exercises at the gym combined with some Cardio and Strength Training and transformed from a size 52 pants to now a size 42 and 40 pants and from 340 to 257-263 depending on factors and double dropped reduced my A1C from over 10.5 to a 5.7. i do running in place burst now on hills though it's more like slowly running up the hill fast as I can for a solid 40 seconds eight to ten times on dog walks of close to three miles and matt running in place at the gym between reps in my strength training every two sets as well as rope lean pull ups and push ups then battle ropes all for 40 seconds each and I'm getting there. God is great, God is Good. Keep moving forward folks.

    I am Knock kneed and sometime it's difficult to sprint because my knees or legs would hit each other making me loss balance, so one time I tried to sprint making some kind of motion that push my body to go zigzag, what's weird is it makes me go faster than normally sprinting. Is it bad or okay for my body?

    • @user-xy4gx6js3j

      of course its bad. however no worry tho. just fix your form to be as straight as possible since its biomechanically the best for sprinting. also i wouldn't recommend to do so if u play football. football sprinting focuses more on agility rather than straight line. so practising both just gonna ruin your form.
      If you can't fix your form due your knees i suggest meet a physician or just search it up on TH-cam lol on how to fix it.

    Steep hill sprints are not sprints and are not plyometrics . To build maximum muscle flat sprints are best but are harder on your muscle and joints because they are plyometrics. so you have higher risk of injury. However pushing to much steep hill sprints you can put to much stress on your heart.

      You need to do tibialis raises (the opposite of calf raises) and you will never get shin splints

    Hey man great video. There’s a high level sprinter here on TH-cam by the name of Mathias Hove Johansen who uploads frequently his sprint training routine and is currently at 10 seconds 100 meter sprint. He’s got some good stuff that I think you as a sprint enthusiast would appreciate in checking out. God bless.

    I love Rogan and this video is good advice. But come on my dudes, what used go be common sense, now it is newsworthy for podcasts and YT content! I mean ever since I was a kid, sprinting up hills until my leg muscles gave up was my favorite exercise, it's exhilarating, you feel it's natural and explosive and in general good for you. Now we call it plyometrics and whatnot, after people got brainwashed that they need to lift weights in the gym otherwise they are not getting "fit". Come on now!! All one needs is road to run for cardio, hills/roads to sprint, a pull up /dips bar and a couple of dumbless and you can be s fit as an athlete. Everyting else is just marketing and you are a victim. It's common sense, which is becoming extinct.

      100% agreed. Maybe a specialized professional athlete would need a gym but the average person can get in phenomenal shape without one.

    I did soccer all my life and I was so strong compared to most people. When I graduated high school I was I really good shape because I started adopting weight training towards the end of my high school years. I signed up for a local MMA gym in Las Vegas and I would choke out and take down the biggest dudes at that gym and I was only 18 5’9 weighing 170lb.
