Please don’t worry about what other people say, your orchids speak for themselves. What works for some people in their environment may not work for you or I. BUT I totally agree with you about feeding, in the wild they get the same nutrients washed down to the roots whether it’s winter or summer, if they are growing roots, leaves and flowers they need feeding. I reduce the amount of feeds and water for the majority of my orchids in winter because it is cold and dark here but I do not give them no food at all because my heating keeps them growing, flowering and drying out. Your orchids are gorgeous and it’s obvious you love them?

Hi you are doing an amazing job, based on my experience you can fertilize Orchids all year long. It does not affect the blooms. In nature they feed all year long.

I was very lazy over the winter and didn't water and fertilise as diligently as I should have, hence no flower inflorescence's on my phalaenopsis orchids, with the exception of one. I now have Monday as my phalaenopsis day, so that they are watered and fertilised regularly. You grow your orchids from the heart, and like our children they grow strong and healthy, from the love we give them. Great update 👏😊

This was a lovely video and very easy to understand , I feed and water my orchids once a week and they are doing well. I would like to encourage secondary spikes to grow off my orchids, have you heard of cutting up banana skins and adding water to it then draining all of the solids out and cleaning the leaves and watering the plants with the remaining water? Great video, looking forward to future ones.

Just subscribed to you, and I totally agree!! I never understood why I kept hearing that you shouldn't feed the plants during the winter, when in nature there is nobody there to give or not give nutrients. All of the orchids look lovely, especially the little phals from Lowe's 😍. I've just bought 3 new orchids in the last 2 weeks, I've started giving them a soak in a light nutrient mix as soon as I get them home. I've lost 1 bud so far. The thing is, most of the time, the orchids have already been under stressed being transported from the nursery to the supermarkets etc, they're not well taken care of there, then we buy them and bring them home - more stress for the orchid! So, I would rather lose a bud but take the necessary steps to build up the plant and ensure that it is healthy going forward! ，😍

+Latha Raju Hello! Hope they will bloom soon. When your orchids grow leaves and roots and fill the pot with the roots they start blooming for you . May be you potted them in a bigger pot. Or are they still in their pots in which they came? African violets and orchids fill the pots with the roots first and then start blooming. Or you have to change their place.

Thanks, for loving them like humans… They look great, I noticed you have drainage holes, only in the bottom. Are there no holes on sides of cups ? Every orchid expert says “ they need air circulation”. Yours look so healthy though !!! @ Eman’sGarden

+Carol Bryan I don’t clean them often, may be once in a while I wipe their dust with a paper towel. But for my new orchids I gave shower with a dish soap in case if they have insects. If orchids and other flowers get enough nutritions they shine.

Now I water them often ( every 5 days, because the medium gets dry) and I take more than 4 gallons of water , may be 5 gallons , make weaker fertilizer . It means I fertilize each time I water. Once in two weeks is normal. If you have to water often you can fertilize every other time or make weaker your fertilizer water . You are welcome! Thank you for watching.

+Robyn Shoffeitt Hi. I will try to answer to your both questions. 1) If you let the medium to dry out little bit for some days before watering your plants will get air no matter what you do. If the medium is always soggy the roots can not get air. 2) You don’t need to take larger pot. We have to choose the pot according to the size of the roots. It is good making holes on the sides of the pot if you have time to water your orchids often. If you’re busy as me that method is not for you. Because it makes you to water your orchids often.( sometimes we travel)I water once in 2 weeks. Sometimes even that seems to me very fast. Now I’m growing some of my orchids in the pots which don’t have any drainage holes. I wanna find out more easier way for myself . Thank you for your questions. Nice to meet you Robyn!😊

I feed my orchids a weak fertilizer solution everyother watering. Water weekly. Epsom salt monthly. 1TBS per gallon of water.

You can give fertilizer with low % N and P...and higher % K. That is good for the blooms and give energy to the plant in general.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful orchids. How do you keep the leaves so clean and shiny. Mine is not indoors and the leaves get dusty. How can I clean them?
+Carol Bryan I don’t clean them often, may be once in a while I wipe their dust with a paper towel. But for my new orchids I gave shower with a dish soap in case if they have insects. If orchids and other flowers get enough nutritions they shine.

Carol Bryan any dish soap. There are dish soaps that doesn’t harm plants. But I don’t have that.

Can you tell how often do you fertilize?
+Nivedita Kashyap I used to fertilize them once in two weeks before, because I used to water them once in two weeks . Now I water them often ( every 5 days, because the medium gets dry) and I take more than 4 gallons of water , may be 5 gallons , make weaker fertilizer . It means I fertilize each time I water. Once in two weeks is normal. If you have to water often you can fertilize every other time or make weaker your fertilizer water . You are welcome! Thank you for watching.

I think your orchids are great. No one needs to give you advice. You should try growing some other types of orchids because I would love to see how healthy they will look under your care.

+Robyn Shoffeitt Hi. I will try to answer to your both questions. 1) If you let the medium to dry out little bit for some days before watering your plants will get air no matter what you do. If the medium is always soggy the roots can not get air. 2) You don’t need to take larger pot. We have to choose the pot according to the size of the roots. It is good making holes on the sides of the pot if you have time to water your orchids often. If you’re busy as me that method is not for you. Because it makes you to water your orchids often.( sometimes we travel)I water once in 2 weeks. Sometimes even that seems to me very fast. Now I’m growing some of my orchids in the pots which don’t have any drainage holes. I wanna find out more easier way for myself . Thank you for your questions. Nice to meet you Robyn!😊
