Gotta say though the most incredible game I was fortunate enough to be at was at the Metrodome against the 49ers in 09 when Favre threw a game winner to Greg Lewis in the end zone with 0:02 seconds left....I thought my ears were gonna explode. Our fans are incredible.

We went to the Bills @ Vikings game this year. The fans were amazing, the stadium was amazing. My family was even getting into their chant in the beginning. It gave me the chills, very cool venue. The "clap & call" response is definitely copied from the Iceland soccer fans chant, in fact the entire Iceland men's soccer team came to Minnesota to coach the Vikings fans on how they performed the chant back home. Minnesota has a large Scandinavian heritage, hence the teams nickname. However, the team fight song is entitled "Skol Vikings" and it's been around ever since the team started back in 1961. Yes and no. The "clap & call" response is definitely copied from the Iceland soccer fans chant, in fact the entire Iceland men's soccer team came to Minnesota to coach the Vikings fans on how they performed the chant back home. Minnesota has a large Scandinavian heritage, hence the teams nickname. However, the team fight song is entitled "Skol Vikings" and it's been around ever since the team started back in 1961. Okay, so what is the idea of yelling "skol" ? ( skål ). Because it actually means cheers and if you look on it with more etmological eyes skål is in fact a very old word for what ever the thing is you drink from. So this is like yelling bottle, bottle, bottle!
Danish Viking I wouldn't say it necessarily means "cheers". Yes Skol is used the same way Americans say cheers, but it offers much more emotional background or value than simply saying cheers. Skol can be good health, happy days, or how we use it for our Viking war cry "battle on" or "fight on". It's simply positive nomenclature.
