It's been months since I started listening to Scandinavian, vikings chants. I absolutely love it. I'm Asian and although we have our own chants here in PH, it's refreshing to hear sounds from a different culture. I love the intensity, depth and the power that they carry.
The Viking age was ended by the Christianization of Scandinavia, and eventually Iceland, almost 1000 years ago now. The viking age is often romanticized which is strange as modern scandinavians have as much in common with vikings and modern Greeks have with ancient Greeks - very little. Sure the people of Iceland are the closest living descendants of vikings today, but there are two things nit considered there. 1 - The viking age ended there also centuries ago. 2 - The reason for the people of Iceland being so closely related to vikings is actually a mix between isolation and inbreeding. The fact is there is a government department in Iceland whose job it is to make sure that if you are about to date or have sex with another that you are not related. Don't believe me? Check it out, no word of a lie. Tell me that doesn't change your opinion.

Great video! I hope that we can do something similar in Sweden one day, but I srsly doubt it. Our politians claim that other cultures are more important than our own so..... (for some reason this is more or less considered racism and/or nazism, being proud of your country and culture) And a professor also claimed that Sweden doesnt have its own culture, that it is just a big mix of imported cultures.....
Wow! That’s so sad! I’m sure Sweden has a wonderfully interesting culture and it shouldn’t be allowed to be swept under the carpet and forgotten because that’s a loss for all of us. Change your politicians!
U sweades have history and cultura, don't forget it. All of us European are brothers, and its time that we stand up for our people and civilization, that out ancestors shed their blood to build.
If Iceland, Greenland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark were ever to work together I would feel sorry for their opponent. That Viking blood would make them damn near invincible.
When I heard the Islandic chant for the first time I literally felt my body being filled with pride of my ancestors achievements, a wonderful feeling of excitement and a extremely strong sense of power. It was like my ( viking) ancestors were standing right beside me
Mate our ancestors bred with the Vikings, we have Viking blood too! That’s why the British Empire was the greatest of all time, Britons were the result of multiple great conquests creating the modern Briton.
Brad Bitcon True, mostly northern and eastern England because that fell under Danelaw. Although some were Norwegians, most were Danes (hence the name). Besides Icelanders historically have Norwegian ancestry (in fact, almost pure, when I visited I learned that those originally from Iceland can trace their ancestry back to at least 874 AD, provided their ancestors had been living their since the 1703 census). There’s also the Germanic tribes, Celtic and Norman ancestry in addition. England was the melting pot of North and Western Europe. Of course this assumes all of one’s ancestors originate from England/Scotland/Ireland. Iceland has a national database of ancestry given its small population. I also heard that someone originally from Iceland usually will not marry someone from outside, though I can’t comment on the authenticity of that. Database if interested, though only people with an Icelandic national ID can access: islendingabok.is/
Totally wrong Scotland is not the only place found to have worn plaid the same as they didn't come up with Haggis that's a Greek delicacy originally...if you like that sort of thing.
@Dr Boom Correct, I think you you're leaving out Danes and Swedes but all the same a mix of mixes, just like everyone else, just not quite the same cocktail !
@Dr Boom Thanks for the input. I'm well aware of the differences but given the fact that Iceland was under Norwegian rule starting in the second half of the 13th century and that Norway Sweden and Danemark where united in the 14th century and that Iceland eventually stayed under Danish rule until WW2 ... well it seems safe to say that there is probably also some Danish and Swedish roots as well although the vast majority of Icelanders descend obviously from Norse ancestors.
No is not. Pure from a racial point of view? Nope. They are both Celtic and Norse. Norse men took Irish wives to Iceland and boom, you have the current Icelandic population. DNA has proved it. www.irishcentral.com/roots/genealogy/irish-slaves-vikings-dna-iceland

And the grim realisation swept over us like water that this day would be our last".
It's a blood chant. Vikings used to do it before launching an attack. If a mass of people does it, it awakens in you warlust and makes you feel all mighty and unstoppable. The warrior in us, our history awakens. That's why it is so amazing, but also terrifying at the same time.

(for some reason this is more or less considered racism and/or nazism, being proud of your country and culture)
And a professor also claimed that Sweden doesnt have its own culture, that it is just a big mix of imported cultures.....
Same here in Germany we Germans are secound Class People we have only to work for the Welfareseekers!
Wow! That’s so sad! I’m sure Sweden has a wonderfully interesting culture and it shouldn’t be allowed to be swept under the carpet and forgotten because that’s a loss for all of us. Change your politicians!

Did vikings wear kilts? I'm sure they wore simalar clothes but with tartans? Tartans are unique to Scotland
Iceland has mixed Nordic and Gaelic ancestry so there probably showing that.
Totally wrong Scotland is not the only place found to have worn plaid the same as they didn't come up with Haggis that's a Greek delicacy originally...if you like that sort of thing.
Sorta Doesn’t Matter I think . Both awesome Cultures . Research the Gall Gaels of the Isles . ( Hebrides)
Respect all the way from Portugal! I loved it!!!
Iceland is pure
No is not. Pure from a racial point of view? Nope. They are both Celtic and Norse. Norse men took Irish wives to Iceland and boom, you have the current Icelandic population. DNA has proved it.
