Just about to install a dropper post on a Whyte 805, so I am very grateful for this video. Fair play for waiting once you loosened the BB, I would have probaly got excited and then blundered through the next steps untill 2am and then been upset in the morning when I'd done a terrible job. Thanks again for the insight.
Hi Mate, I managed to instal the cable past the BB, although it was a mission. The only thing is that the thumb shifter is quite stiff, I think due to the cable going round the BB and back up the seat post which is quite an acute angle. When you did it, did you route the cable above the BB and has this worked out ok in terms of freedom of movement of the cable? Cheers Keith
Thanks for the message. Agreed, bit of a mission. I went round the BB ie the long way as I thought it may be a less acute angle but it's still a bit stiff. That said it's a total game changer. So useful. I was about to start trouble shooting experimenting with rerouting but unfortunately this bike got stolen so will have to see what happens next dropper post wise! Thanks :)
@@MatthewLister well if you're doing another one. I used an old inner cable to draw a piece of string and then the piece of string to draw the cable-outer down to the bottom bracket. I taped the string to the outer and put a knot in it, so that it wouldn't pull through the tape. Shud have video-ed it, but there would have been too many expletives. 🙄
I have a parktool BBT-9. Very handy tool as can be used on centre lock disc rotors and has a crank arm end cap tool on the other end. Worth double checking what bb the bike has though as I think Whyte switched from square taper to hollowtech style around 2019. The bbt-9 is for hollowtech.
It’s definitely the hollowtech BB, he’s already nicked my SLX crank set and Hope Tech 3 brakes from my Trek Marlin 7, but I’m looking at getting a Specialized Turbo levo comp soon. Very much appreciated for the info and great video.

Thanks for the shout out!
