Wemby is actually a top 3 player on the league by advanced metrics rn, I'm not crowning him #3 yet because he needs to show he can average 28ppg for longer in order for me to confidently take him over Shai, Luka, Giannis, Tatum, or Jokic, but I think he's right there.

    • @Mike-r4h

Impact-wise, he's top 5 at least. defense matters, and we're not talking about a PoA defender here. We're talking somebody who literally shuts off the paint as an option for the opposition. Stats only tell half the story. If teams kept going at him like normal, he would literally average 7+ bpg.

Been watchin NBA since bad boy Pistons in late 80s. I'm from Chicago and grew up during Jordan era. I've never seen anything like Wemby. If he remains healthy he will be the GOAT in terms of the greatest basketball player from a skill and individual stats both offense and defense. However, he might not win the chips like MJ because so many factors play into that.

I've been on the Wemby bandwagon since I saw him at the U17 finals. S/o to Kenneth Lofton Jr who balled that game too.
Edit: as I continue to listen to this, he's the first person who has played in the NBA like how I used them in 2k before they entered the NBA. I knew the way to get him injured was to make him bang offensively, play the 3 & use that height advantage until he develops the finer intricacies of the game.

Wemby has played 25 games this season so far . His first 9 games he started off very slow and was shooting poorly, he was averaging less than 20 points , low 40s fg and under 25% from 3
But in his last 16 games his averages are
    29.8 points
    10.6 rebounds
    4.6 assists
    4.1 blocks
    50% fg
    40% from 3 on 11 attempts
    86% free throws
It’s just crazy to think about what he’ll be capable of in his prime if he can do this at age 20. This isn’t a small sample size and those are mvp worthy numbers especially if you take into account he’s the best defender in the league.
I don’t believe in ranking players from different eras vs each other granted each era has a different style, they can’t play each others competition and circumstances in general are different and you can say some things are easier and harder each decade, nonetheless it’s hypothetical so we’ll never know for fact what happens if players switched places.
Also I’m not big on just counting rings, stats, averages and awards of players who had primes in different decades because it’s a team sport and the circumstances are so different. For example some will say because Magic , Kobe, Duncan , Bird , Kareem etc all won championships at earlier stages they are better younger than players who it took until year 6,7, 8, 9,10 but they disregard none of those guys would’ve realistically won championships with the rosters young Jordan, LeBron , Steph etc had early , those guys won early because they drafted into situations with prime hall of Famers . So im not gonna compare for example early Duncan winning chips with Wemby on a team with no teammate even remotely close to being an allstar besides him but im also not gonna look at Wembys stats and say he’s better than Duncan because his era was extremely slow paced and low scoring which lowers those players numbers .
Thus for the last several years I’ve ranked all time in tiers by decade distinguishing between best career and highest peak.
    Tier 1 The Goats
    60s Russell (career) Wilt (peak)
    70s Kareem career and peak
    80s Magic (career) Bird (peak)
    90s Jordan career and peak
    00s Duncan (career) Shaq (peak)
    10s LeBron peak and career
20s Jokic peak and career (so far)
Tier 2 Transcendent but not a Goat case
60s West (career) Big O (peak)
70s Dr J (career) Walton (peak)
    80s Moses peak and career
    90s Hakeem peak and career
    00s Kobe peak and career
    10s Steph (career) Durant (peak)
    20s Giannis peak and career
I have zero doubt if Wemby stays healthy to reach his peak or have a long career he will be a tier 1 guy , tier 2 is the worst I can see him being .
Also my general belief is that each decade or at least every 20 years the game and players are only getting better . But I’m not going to rank tier 2 Giannis over a tier 1 Bill Russell and Wilt or Kareem just because the game evolved because it’s just biased not to acknowledge that everything is different and the best players of each decade played with the skillsets they were supposed to have during their era with the different rules and way the game is played .
I know old heads think basketball players got worse right as Lebron, Curry , Durant era started and the Kobe , Shaq , Duncan era ended so they would likely rank tier 2 or 3 player from the 80s , 90s and 00s over tier 1 players in the 10s, 20s, 30s but I just think my way of not comparing eras is the best way to appreciate every era and the evolution of the game and not get into pointless hypothetical debates when most of us are biased towards our favorite era to watch or players we watched or like the most.

      @Anthonydu01630 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Fg% is outdated, you should only use Ts % (True shooting %), wich take into account freethrow % and the fact that a 3pts shot is 1.5x more valuable than a 2pts shot, or Efg (Effective field goal %), wich doesnt take into account freethrow but take into account 3pts shot and the fact its 1.5x more valuable than a 2pts shot.
And Wemby Ts% is 61, and i think the league average is 56 or 58%, and his efg % is 57%, wich is very very good, KD in his 2nd season had a 51% efg and 57% Ts, Lebron had a 50% efg and 55% Ts, and if you want to compare to players of this era, Luka had a 53% efg and 58% Ts, Jokic (The efficiency king) had a 60% Efg and 64% Ts, but in his 3rd season he went back to 55%efg and 60% ts so just like Wemby, Giannis had a 49% efg and 55% ts, wich is bad compared to Wemby, Embiid had a 51%efg and 57% ts, and AD had a 52% efg and 58% Ts …
So Wemby is more efficient than all of them except Jokic, who only averaged 16.7ppg, almost 10 less than Wemby right now, and probably 12 less than Wemby at the end of the season because i think Wemby will keep scoring like the last 15 games and he will probably end up averaging 27-28ppg.
So wether you include freethrow or not, Wemby is one of the most efficient scorer ever for a 20yo in his 2nd season, that’s a statistical fact you can’t argue with.
