      Cheers Fergus. Main difficulty was I had to get the OSB board on top of the timber which was roughly in place. Trying to put it straight on just wasn’t working out at all, no matter how many different ways I tried. Then my old mitre saw stand was looking at me in the garden which got me thinking. By lifting it up onto that then I could gently lower it onto the timber was the winning solution😀. I’ve been doing it for all the other pieces today and it’s really simple!

    Very cool Leo. Forgive me for saying but driving the screws in, you looked like a man taking his time, on a Sunday morning with one hand in his pocket. The epitome of keep calm...etc. Did you buy an extra sheet of OSB just for the worktop or are you going to reach an impasse? Stay safe and well, your problem solving is an inspiration to us all.

      Thanks Keith, I’ve had plenty of practice recently so drilling / driving etc just feels so much more natural now. That Ferrex impact driver really is good too and takes a lot of the stress out of it so to speak. I was very fortunate that my local timber merchants kindly done a delivery for me the day before they shut down. I’ve always tried to use local independent companies, I bought my Festool gear from them recently so it’s nice they valued me as a customer. Got in a load of treated 3x2 and OSB boards as I’m starting ‘the big one’ after the bike shed is finished. OSB board makes a great makeshift outdoor work table😀

    I often wonder about using half-size panels or some smaller modular size to make them easier to maneuver. I'm sure you must have considered it with your various projects. Have you come to any conclusions about the worth versus extra labor ( and sometimes extra materials and weight) involved, or is it on a case-by-case basis?

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers R Wind. It’s always assessed on a case by case basis. One other major factor I have to consider is structural integrity, is one 8x4 board lined with timber more structurally integral than two 4x4 boards? Probably yes. And, as you say, the weight is another aspect to consider. That’s why I’m using 11mm OSB boards lined with 3x2 timber as it is structurally integral enough to cope with the demands, yet ‘just about’ light enough to manoeuvre as a single module. Hope this makes sense pal. Cheers, Leo 😀

      Thanks, Leo, for the reply. So case-by-case. I struggle with this myself as a design decision; and had not come up with a conclusion. If you come to any different conclusions in the future, I'm sure we'll benefit from it.

    I'm getting nervous about this challenge but looking forward to the experience. I'm planning on starting early so I can really take my time and figure things out.

      I suppose that’s the only piece of advice I could give Karl is to take your time. You have to adjust the mindset from ‘that’ll only take 5mins’ to ‘that’ll take at least half an hour’

      Cheers Alastair, took a little while to figure out a method, but was determined to get this right as I’ll need to do a lot of these if I’m going to build the workshop the way I’d like to 😀
