  • ‘Whack Jobs’ is a short film about winter cycling in the Marquette, Mich., area. It profiles the personalities (and trail-grooming technologies) that foster a winter singletrack trail network “that has become an example for the world,” according to producer Aaron Peterson.

We have hundreds of miles of winter trails up here in the interior of Alaska. Some are groomed, some are sort of groomed. Love what those guys are doing, a lot of the trails up here are groomed by dog sled or by regular snow mobile with a grooming drag. Been fat biking for 3 years, riding for over 30, again, love this stuff. Thanks for the excellent video on the unsung maniacs of trail work.

I'd love to own a Fat-bike one day. Must be fun to ride in the snow. Would make a great alternative for my 50cc scooter in the winter.

*Oh Yeah! That's why I bought one- so I can ride in the winter and have fun at the same time! All I need to get are some studded tires for icy conditions. I assume most people run studs in winter on the trails up there?*

OMG! Thank you so much for this video, I LOVE Marquette! I was first there in 1992 and have been back many times; just this last summer I was in Marquette for 8 days. I rode so many trails and had such a wonderful time, much has changed since '92. I also, learned about the abundance of snowbike trails in and around Marquette, so cool. I wanted to come back this Winter but, I wasn't able; however, I have already started saving for a Winter of '18-'19 trip during my break from teaching high school.
I must also say how impressive it is and innovative it is that you guys are creating everything from scratch, tools, techniques, and all. However, I know why, since that I have studied the region, the people, and their heritage. Once I learned about SISU, I understood more about the UP and the Yooper way, stoic determination, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness is innate.
Concerning the cinematography, this video is incredible; watching right now, this video makes has me wanting to drop all my responsibilities and spend money, I don't have to get up there ASAP to ride those freshly groomed, gorgeous snowbike trails. I will be there next snowbike season for sure, and I am coming next summer too, did I tell you I really love Marquette... I even tried to get a job teaching there last summer, even went to Ishpeming and Negaunee too, no luck. I only have about 10 years left before I can retire from my county here in Florida w/full benefits. Once I do, I am seriously considering retiring in Marquette. I know, I know, what you are thinking... This guy from Florida is crazy but, I haven't always lived in Florida, I was even born in Livonia. I also lived in Indian River, just below the bridge and it is almost the same climate due to the Lake Michigan, lake effect snow.
Anyhow, I have written a novel here but, I could write forever about Marquette and the UP! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and also have a great 2018!

The " 15 " tire being pulled behind the Rokon is actually the wheel size, it will widen the trail to roughly 25-26 inches wide, which is the actual tire height.

The red Dolomite is not the same frame as the normal blue Dolomite th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTGiBQEtJDzdz-_LjtY9HyQZPzkg6s_L9 it seems to be a Hitch with Dolomite stickers and solid rims. This isn't an issue unless you are counting on the wider tire clearance of the original Dolomite. This can be hard to tell given the angle of the pics, especially on a smaller screen. The red version does have the welded seat lock of the newer Malus. If the red color is important and you're going to be doing the basic upgrades popularized on the biking forums and TH-cam; you would probably be better off buying a Hitch, getting the lighter wheels, and saving a little money. We ordered a blue and a red one and both of the bikes needed grease in the bottom brackets, hubs, and stems. No matter what, these are a great introduction to fat bikes and wrenching your own stuff at this price point.
