Thank you Allan. Paul Rubens is so reliable. Nice selection in this set too. I wpild prefer a better umber or Vandyke brown but all in all very nice. I have their glitter paper. It's 100% cotton and i use it to paint card fronts. Something you can hold and tilt to get the effect. It performs well. Take care ❤
@annettefournier9655 thank you too. I agree so much. Great pigment selection except for the dark brown that's too dark. I'm curious about their cotton paper, too. Is it like Baohong cotton paper levels?
@@AllanJayQuesada Baohong is better IMHO over all and is quite close to ARCHES. But Paul Ruben is brighter white . I don't care for Paul Ruben cold pressed as it is more like rough and not highly sized. The glitter one is ok more cold pressed and the hot press is not totally smooth but more soft pressed. I have two sketch books of hot pressed and enjoy them and the glitter paper.
It must be morning. The roosters are really active! Reminds me of when I lived in Hawaii. I don’t have this set but I do have the 36 set. I love these paints really creamy and vibrant!
@juleeahlman hello. Yes, it's always morning when I shoot. I start at 4am. It's the time when there are fewer car and human noises around. I prefer the rooster and bird sounds than the human/motor noises. Hehe. These paints are worthit. I'm glad you have them and enjoing them.
Hi Sir. I just came across your channel when I was searching for Berkeley Finest Watercolour review. Thank you for the most in-depth review and your paintings are gorgeous. I am now binge-watching all your videos about water coloring. I am now a fan!
I am always thrilled to See when you have reviewed paints I am interested in trying. You are among my Most trusted and informative content creators for this !!
I just bought the 4th generation set because it was on sale for $29.99 Canadian, as opposed to $69.99 for the Youlan set. I have the Mei Liang set by Paul Rubens and LOVE them and am hoping I'll love these too. I would have loved the newer set but for that price i would have tried the Daniel Smith mixing set instead. I love all of your reviews.
@craftykat i would have done the same, given your choices. The 4th generation with that price is a steal and they're not too far performance wise from YouLan. I'm excited for you. 😊
Your have a really holistic approach to the process of reviewing. I have noticed some reviewrs give either 0 or 100 depending on if the paints fit their style or not. On other hand you also carefully examine the different aspects of the product, like packaging, build quality, ease of use, suitable and targetted age group, price point, compatibility with other supplies like paper, brush etc. Then in second part you just compare the quality of pigment without pulling punches. The ranking is also an aspect other reviewers stay away from, I don't know why. That is the best part of your video and sometimes I might pick a lower ranked pigment just because of the price ratio or the extra goodies it comes in. By the way, do you know that Sonnet watercolor also comes in a beautiful limited edition yellow metal palette? Also the Chinese company Himi have launched a proper half pan set that comes in a white metal palette. I would look forward for your opinion on it. Thank you for making such wonderful videos...
@kunaljanvalkar2850 thank you for recognising and appreciating my work and effort. For years, i have been watching others review materials.. and i have gathered from what they do, what I think should include in mine.. so credits to them too for inspiring me. The ranking part can be confusing because price can come in betweem although i try not to. And also, some student grades can be better than some "pro" grades. When i do my ultimate rankings video, i will need to think about the aspects more.. and make it clear. Yes, i have seen the Sonnet in Yellow tin. Ut has 21 full pans. I actually have them in my small shop. Haha. The Himi.. i have reviewed before a Himi solids in metal tin with a perfume bottle like housing.. is that what you were pertaining to? If not, can you link the product here? I'd love to check it out. 🙏 😊

Hi, pretty cool all yours reviews. Lot of Details. I wish to buy my 1st set, to use for retouching fine art prints and creating my own painting. Paul Rubens Youlan 24 pans vs Mijello mission gold 12x7ml tube vs Daniel Smith scential set + PK set. What you suggest?? Thanks a lot. Cheers!!
Thanks for answering! PK set, I mean Daniel Smith Prima Tek set. I was thinking about getting both sets for mixing and getting nice colours. I have some knowledge in dye ink printing pigments and mixing colors.
@fbisanchet oh. That's easy for me to choose DS Essential + Primateks or even DS Essentials + payne's gray, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, etc. Rhodonite from primateks is kind of close to quin rose. But yes would still choose that combo sets. If it was vs. mijello Pure pigment set, that would've been a harder match. I think for the price of essentials + primateks you can get a pure pigment set (number of colors price) depending on your location though. But yeah DS still my choice. Next is Mijello and YouLan for 3rd. All great paints.
@@AllanJayQuesada Many thanks for your explanation.!!! I go in of your opinion. I have to care about not being a collector. But I was in love also with Marie's Masters. DS essentials + primatek set have a tag price of about U$42 + tax in my region. I will see what I can get.
@fbisanchet i love exploring brands, and many are actually great. But I'm just very comfortable with DS now. Maries is not bad for the price and would be good for sketchbooks and chill works. Go and enjoy your watercolor hunt/deciding. Let me know what you finally go for. 😉
@brook2478 yes, i agree too. Paul Rubens are atleast (to me) mid level pro grade paints. They just need to fine-tune some aspects and they're definitely there. I rate them A-. Marie's Masters are entry level pro grade or higher level student grade. 😉

@Xolo0001 honestly, that is still a question to many, including me. But in my observation, my paints, even those which are 5 years older, are still all very good. We even see artists discover and use, some vintage paints either found online or inherited from parents or ancestors. I think, for as long as the paints are well made, and that they're well taken care of (clean, free of rust, dust, insects etc, and are regularly dried on fresh air, they're gonna be fine even after decaes especially cakes and pan paints. Tube paints can face more issues such as binder-pigment separation issues, corrosion of the aluminum tube, etc.
