Instead of "the line", you need to build "the shaft". It's much stronger and less of a focus on architecture. You can enlarge it as necessary to excite the beavers that live there.
So today Matt is: 1. Determined to use the "Line" aesthetic, making big chunks of the map unusable. Unless he's doing some weird district type thing with multiple, or by expanding the line which would defeat the point. 2. Rather than make a sustainable colony first then worry about moving things into a fancy line afterward, He decides no "A Line looks better" and that's smart. Maybe the starting beavers were an omen.

15:34 Actually, a rainy season is a potentially very cool feature to add to Timberborn. The mud slowing the beavers, them getting dirty and unhappy, you having to add showers for them to clean themselves, some crops not liking too much water & buildings spontaneously flooding, so you have to work on drainage system & teams. Also this can be a good spot to add tunneling through terrain
The buildings light up at 8:37 because it says "shares power with adjacent buildings", not because of the roof bonus. Roofs share power, shrubs no not, this is the reason buildings don't light up when you try to put them on the housing at 8:45.
The concept of the city of lines is that everything is in it: shops, schools, hospitals, guards, police, so everything should be in the city, farms and trees too
Gonna be fun when Mat realize that he's an architect that forgot to think about stairs for the layers, but hey that's typical engineers tunnel-vision galore
Why are so many people crying about The Line? He mentioned it as kind of "dystopian city", so it's not like he is celebrating it as a wonder of engineering. I think it is a fun idea for a game like Timberborn
An idea for the Devs... Instead of destroying a structure, storing the material, and rebuilding again somewhere else, allow for an option to _"Move"_ a structure. It could be moved one component (log, plank, gear, etc) at a time, but since the resource is already out there in use, the builders could also act as demolishers and dismantle the structure one piece at a time and carry them to the new location.
I don’t get why everyone is so negative about the line thing. I think it will be highly entertaining to watch you try to make it work and add the dystopian parts of the city. Best day of the week!
