I was a line worker for 35 years. From groundman to foreman. Free climbed the whole time or worked out of buckets. We worked 50 and 60 mph winds out of buckets on a day to day basis all winter long. Never missed a day working. Loved every minute of the work!
@@johngarran7173 you see the 104 in my name right? Worked plenty of jobs in the cape. It isn't even 30pmh every day. You are either eversource or the same local as me so we both know you're full of it.

To the average person they sound like they’re stumbling over their words but he’s just trying so hard to dumb it down and translate from “lineman slang” to English lol.
Its a different part of the country. what's most disturbing is how there was an attempt to create tension. If you u can do the job U can do the job Nobody will have a problem with you as long as you do the job and be safe..
I retired as a lineman a very tight group of people. I had a boss that if he saw you not being safe would jerk whomever out of the bucket and put them on the ground. He never did it to me but I'm glad he was that way. He got me to retirement alive. That's to Jesse meyer my boss. Please sray safe guys and if your boss chews on you a bit it's because he wants you to stay safe and go home on top of the dirt.❤
Years before these guys started their jobs we were using time domain reflectometers to locate faults in aircraft wiring bundles. One guy I worked with must have had some previous experience with buried cables--he always referred to the TDR as the "Dig Here Machine."
I worked telecommunications for 35 years, I’ve used an OTDR machine, used to locate faults in aerial or buried fiber optic cables, it could meter out miles, and put me within a foot of the damage, such a great piece of equipment to have!
agreed, when I started out building powerlines here in the US, we would free hand 110 foot poles, safety off at the top and do the work, I still refuse to use the (buck squeeze), may work well with distribution but try it on a 80 ft cedar pole thats been in the ground for 60 yrs,
This is so funny I just found this video in my recommendations I just went and did my drug testing and background screening for DWP in downtown Los Angeles as a none exempt helper for powerlineman hopefully one day I'm one of these guys but not only that I know my phone's listening cause how would the phone know to put this in my recommendations hhhmmmmm
I encourage you to watch the story of the man who worked for AEP, he lost both his arms just going up to change a dust to dawn light. His bucket got hung on the phone line, he looked over lost his hard hat. When he stood back up the bucket came free and the bow in the boom, shot him up in to the primary. If I can find it again I'll post the link.
What if you don’t answer the phone when they call? My brothers a lineman and the only time he doesn’t want to answer the phone he says is when he’s drunk lol. Have any of y’all ever been drunk when the phone calls?
If you can't not drink while you're on call you've got a problem. Also you don't want to stand up the guys you work with because a lot of times your life is in their hands. But besides that if you don't back your guys up you'll get run off the job. Seriously it's not rocket science, you just don't go drinking when you're on call or there's a big storm coming.
Funny story to tell you, We was doing a reconductor job and it was a lot of back yard. I ask a lady if I could bring my truck thru her yard, no no no your not bringing that thru here, I said miss I can put mats down it would be a lot easier and quicker if we could. No your not she said. So belt and hooks and stick work we go. Fast forward three weeks Hurricane Charlie blows thru South Florida, we are getting our job orders and the first one I get, guess what address it was. LMAO it was the lady who wouldn't let me in the yard. She was so hell bent on getting the power on and I ask if I could go thru her yard. She said do what you have to. I tore thru her yard like I was at a monster truck rally. Believe me karma is real.

Yes my uncle is a linemen and most of the time he’s never home, it’s long hours and a lot of overtime, there’s days where he’s called out at 4am even 2am! Good pay though.
Did my man doing the climbing check the pole before he climbed it? I didn’t see it. Dig beside the pole and check below ground. Whacking it with a hammer above ground does squat.
Don’t trust the strap for any dielectric value at all. It’s not rated at all and the manufacturer doesn’t say it is. Always use a link if you’re going to attach to the pole. Cutting bells in line it will be fine.

You didn't work 60mph winds on a daily basis. That's quite enough superstar.
I miss spoke. I meant to say 30 to 40 mph winds day to day in the wintertime on Cape Cod. The wind always blows here., so there mr doubter!

They do call it linesman in Aus,but now in these modern times, they are called lineworkers,to make it even with feminine workers
