He’s gonna be a 3rd or 4th option who can spread the floor better than randle…. hes also a significantly better defender, and yes his motor can be questionable but with thibs its just not going to be a problem. Kat wont have to drop 25 points a night for the knicks to win, so he can put more effort in on defense

Randle will always give ANT the scoring backup he needs. KAT, not so much. Neither team is winning a Title. So it really don't matter, either way.

NEGATIVE. Although Julius Randle was frustrating to watch as the team's centerpiece, his overall game improved once they acquired Jalen Brunson and elevated some more upon OG Anunoby's arrival. He was never meant to be the main star-marquee player for any squad...he's best-suited as a complimentary player...bully ball & physicality will be needed against the best Big Men during the playoffs (i.e. Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokić, etc.)

1. They're traded
2. The team does everything wrong, from GM, owners,coach, salary cap, low ball, (lack of) talent, everything.
Small market teams can make one low ball offer and they lose the player. A big market team will typically get them on a discount 0:34 instead

Minnesota made a HUGE Mistake. Julius Randle is so dependent on having the ball, he will make everyone worse. Especially Rudy Gobert. Anthony Edwards is never gonna get enough touches and the team chemistry is gonna be flustered. Not to mention, Julius Randle being an inefficient shot chucker the last several years. And having a severe injury history.

And KAT isn’t dependent on having the ball? His 3 assists a game isn’t exactly making his teammates better. Randle averages 5 dimes game. I think he’s a much better fit with Edwards and Gobert. Dante gives them much needed depth off the bench. The Knicks aren’t going to be better after this trade. The Wolves will be.

You are correct. As a lifelong Knicks fan Randle was a necessary evil. He wouldn't have meshed with all we accomplished in the post season without him. Good luck Timberwolves fans because he is going to ruin your team chemistry

we didn't build ,we subtracted salary and replaced some firepower in the process. donte obviously odd man out because bridges trade. hopefully we get a chance in the future to bring him a second time. we got taller, maybe we improve ....

@@twesj KAT wasn't too soft in these recent playoffs. He played above his own level, and Ant kept praising him. In fact, Ant kept praising KAT for things other teammates did. Ant and KAT are both extremely infantile, and seemed to like being teammates. As you said yourself, the Wolves didn't need a leader, so this trade makes no sense.

The only plus side to taking him in the draft was the players and potential #1 round pick they got.. They should have traded back instead of taking KAT, taken Embiid, let him heal, and they would have had a high pick in the next draft.
@@penkima4923 I would also add that it actually makes a lot of sense. Not just because he's soft and not a leader. It makes sense when you look at their contracts. If you do that you'll realize that they had almost no cap space if they didn't trade KAT. They wouldn't have been able to resign players like McDaniels and the players they got in the Gobert trade that actually panned out. This was an excellent move for the Wolves. Ant will be empowered. The last two playoff games Ant lost something. He wasn't driving the ball like he did before. Now he'll have more time with the ball in his hands.
Literally 2 weeks ago, KAT was in conference in San Diego that I attended and one of things he discussed was how much he loved Minnesota and that their future looks very bright.

It’s almost like both teams were trying to do an addition by subtraction as neither KAT and Randle have ever lived up to their potential. Randle has his own issues berating Knicks fans. But then KAT lacks any toughness.
Only reason I say Minny might have won is because they got Donte. He can be Ant’s Klay Thompson. Donte hits the biggest shot in Knicks history and he gets traded? So much for the Villanova reunion. Knicks fans losing DiVicenzo is going to bother them more than the Randle-KAT swap.

Over the past few seasons watching KAT’s demeanor and body language on and off the court, seeing his press conferences and seeing the way Finch talks about him (or AVOIDS talking about him as the case may sometimes be) I get the sense that maybe he was seen as more of a locker room/ culture detriment than others in the organization let on.
At the end of the day it’s all about saving money but if they saw him as a vital piece in winning a championship right now, then he’d be worth the money and they wouldn’t be dealing him.
Knicks fans will always have love for Randle for all he did for our franchise. Absolute legend!

They get a quality player like Divincenzo now backing up the next big thing Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle is about to open the floor up even more for Rudy among others. As nice a guy in the locker room as KAT was presumably, this makes Minnesota a contender, full stop.

That’s how it looks from the outside. Wolves fans know KAT has been disrupting chemistry and even Ant’s development, until Ant put his foot down and took the #1 spot last season. Does this even make sense for the Knicks? They have 4 perimeter-centric players in the starting lineup already after adding Bridges and now its 5 with KAT, they have an injury prone bigman in Robinson and Kat is not an interior defensive threat nor is he a consistent prolific rebounder which is what the Knicks needed after losing Hartenstein. Possibly there was no other team that even wanted Randle or gave a decent deal for him but even a couple of consistent role players may have been a better deal to make. Plus i dont think getting rid of Divincenzo was the right move, dude had the intangibles needed in the NBA that you just wont get from KAT. Guess we'll see how it goes.

As a Knicks fan I hate this trade. Kat / Randle is a wash but Dante was coming into his own as a top tier guard.
This is not a good trade, because the knicks already have a good chemistry. The nova boys, brunson, hart, Divincenzoand with the addition of mikal bridges and Randle and OG being healthy. But wit KAT he is not consistent with his game, sometimes he chokes in games.

@@RealMrSmile KAT isn't a good defender... He wasn't even the reason why they were number one in defense. It was all Gobert, McDaniels, Conley and Naz Reid. KAT allowed the most points by his defender on that team and had the lowest defensive plus minus put of the starting lineup plus Naz Reid. Randle isn't a good defender as well but he's way more rugged and aggressive down low which also helps Gobert defensively too. It allows him to space out to the perimeter and attack the post on the defensive end easily.

This is interesting because while we always knew Towns’ contract would become a problem, the Wolves organization at least created the *impression* that they were going all-in to try to make a championship run this year, and Towns was set to be a big part of that. Either they were just waiting for the right trade partner(s), or maybe there’s more going on with KAT behind the scenes than we’re privy to.

The knicks desperately needed more scoring to take pressure off Brunson. Kat disappears sometimes and takes nights off but randle takes more nights off being injured all the time. Wolves got a great first round pick and a quality role player. Even trade to me
@Will-om3bz Randle has NEVER been injury prone in his career. This past season was the only one in his career where he missed significant time. Dante was one of the best three point shooters in the NBA this past season. KAT's numbers have been going down the last two seasons. Knicks gave up too much. 👎.

With Brunson and KAT together, we're getting deeper in the playoffs for sure. Randle is great, but got injured too much and out of the system.
