  • @kckfen
    @kckfen 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

    If they follow Malaysia Proton tuning for the Geely Galaxy EX5, it will be a stiffer suspension, and the air-conditioning performance will be better. Is more of a family car, not a sports car. In terms of spec, got better battery, weight much better at only 1.7 tonne compared to BYD Atto 3 of more than 2 tonne. The car is co developed with Proton engineer where they handle the right hand conversion and suspension tunning ourside China. In Malaysia it will Proton e.MAS 7 right hand version of Geely Galaxy E5. The car aerodynamic is not as good as BYD atto 3 due to its size and more upright taller, the car wont do well at high speed efficiency, but at city drive speed the efficiency is very good. It got 16 speakers included speaker at the headrests with flyme audio with Wanos Sound kind of like China version of Dolly Atmos

    Nice Review and Geely is producing good EV's, I have an E8. Charging Speed while all manufacturers stated the maximum charging speed I not been able to find a Rapid Charger that can meet 350kwh which my car is rated.. Best I have found and friends is around 150-180kwh. In Australia it will take them 10 years to catchup, so highly unlikely you find 600kwh rapid charger.

    The better energy efficiency than a Tesla is only below 80km/h. The reason is mainly due to dynamic recuperation. Above 80 the aerodynamic takes over and leads to a an expected range with highway drive.

  • @svyikes

    Sam, correct me if I’m wrong but the only way that the energy density of a battery can effect range is a higher density pack will weigh less. 60kwh at 190kw per kg is still 60kwh albeit at a lesser weight. If the larger body of the EX5 weighs more than the weight saved by the lighter battery then range won’t improve much. A higher density pack ought to mean a higher kWh in the same space, however when cost becomes a factor then 60kwh is 60kwh.

    • @toriwatson9655
      @toriwatson9655 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's what I was thinking, a kwh is a kwh, a higher kwh per kg means less weight, maybe a bit more range due to it being lighter, and as you say the ex5 is a bigger car, unless it is has a big advantage in aerodynamics it won't get a better range.

    • @AJames-jr8kw
      @AJames-jr8kw 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Amazing that he can make thousands of videos about EVs and still be "confused" as to why a higher energy dense 60kWh battery does not have more range than a 60kWh battery of lower energy density.

    • @svyikes
      @svyikes 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @ to be fair, there are many variables that effect range, battery capacity being just one of them, so Sam may be disappointed and referring to other factors contributing to a poor range on the tested model and I suspect that base model price factors are why the range of the EX5 is not better than the Atto 3 given 2 major factors, it’s a near 3 year newer design and given the advances in battery tech in that time one would have thought that a 2025 model at an entry price point should have a somewhat better range than the now 2022 spec Atto3 and when breaking into a new market with a new name, whilst undercutting price of competitors is important, so is having a major point of difference, and 190kw/kg ought to manifest in a real world 500km, 150kw charging speed base entry model.

    • @zizimai7568
      @zizimai7568 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Decent boot but would be much more practical if had 40/20/40 split. That way you could put stuff like surfboards through the centre, still have passengers in back row. In an ICE car, boards on the roof is OK as ICE is more efficient with highway conditions - but taking a trip up the coast with boards on the roof in an EV would kill range and have seen studies where this is around a 14 - 20% reduction.

    A lot of incoming BEV stuff in AUS, for a small slice of the pie. BEV sales stagnant, at about 9% market share, for a while now. I thought it would be at least 15% by now. Considering the heavy discounting ( Model Y down $20k from peak price!!! huge MG4 discounts and they are still sitting at dealers ) and great tax incentives available , that's a worry. Imagine when those pre discount Tesla's come out of their lease. Some very angry people. I think the resale value thing, is a real worry for prospective buyers and becoming a huge hurdle.

    What price point? In the States this would not be competitive with even the most basic Tesla Y. That SUV starts at 40k. Even the 50k Prolog……. 40k Chevy Blazer are both better options.
    Priced at 45 k us fully loaded it would do well for maybe half a year with the current driving dynamics. That is only if it is sold under an established name brand.

    • @kevbrown1867

      This and all Chinese EV cars would have a 100 % tariff in other words they are banned in the USA .
      No Chinese automakers would waste time trying to export to the USA .
      If they didn’t have those tariffs they would put all the American automakers out of the business.,thus the reason for those insane tariffs.
      So they are more than competitive.
      That should answer your question

    • @fatboy19831
      @fatboy19831 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kevbrown1867 The Chinese will bypass the tariff. BYD and Geely are already in the States. All electric Volvo's are made in China. Many Buicks are also. The Chinese will build cars in the US and in Mexico. It wont matter. Cars like this with Zero name recognition and horrible driving dynamics with slow charging wont make it in the states. Ask Vinfast. Chinese cars will come in more refined under major brands like Toyota and Honda. They will have to meet their standards. like 300 mile real world range and at least 200kw charging.
      BYD has enough pull to make it in the states if they can provide a good service network and offer inexpensive high quality entry level cars.
      The Chinese need to make small to medium pickups electric, series hybrids and all electric Minivans. Were they have ZERO competition. They can sale them in the 45k to 75K range and offer the American public something completely unique. If they can make a self driving van or an inexpensive electric pick ups. They can sale millions.
      Trying to compete with the Y is a loosing game. At least in the states. GM has also really upped their game. Pricing alone wont carry the Chinese.

    • @kevbrown1867
      @kevbrown1867 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All made in China EV after Oct 1st will have a 100 % tariff including Volvo .Chinese automakers will not bother exporting cars that have no chance of selling
      100 % tariff basically means banned .
      There are over 90 different EV makers in China and most have products that surpass any Tesla .
      I sat in many the first time last month at the Vietnam motor show as they are starting to import to Vietnam.
      I was impressed with the quality and tech of these cars and the styling was gorgeous.
      The Chinese can beat anyone regardless of a cheap entry level car or high end luxury car .
      Don’t compare to Vinfast these Chinese cars were really premium.
      In Vietnam Vinfast cars are all over the place but most are owned by the Vinfast ride sharing app in other words Vinfast buys most their cars .
      I can see Vinfast having big troubles selling their VF 8 and VF 9 in the States at the price point they are at .
      But the smaller models may save the company if they can sell at a competitive price .
      The smallest VF3 may end up a big hit for someone that just wants a basic no frills city car to get around at 20 grand .;
      The USA doesn’t put 100% tariffs on Vinfast cause they know they aren’t a threat.
      Without banning the Chinese cars the North American car industry would be destroyed
