- Some animals of our forests are familiar to us, others not quite as much. There is one inhabitant everyone thinks they know - but hardly anyone ever gets to see: The badger. This film follows a female badger and her two youngsters. The large martens are late developers, unsure and on shaky legs. One of them ventures out of the burrow and in doing so is in grave danger...

We do not cull badgers in Scotland 🏴. They have been protected here since 1992❤❤❤❤
Kill?
@@smollfrogyes7798that makes more sense haha
In my honest opinion it's the humans that need to be culled....I could never hurt a badger
@@randylahey1232 true dat
@@randylahey1232I've killed 9 in my lifetime. I've had to euthanize 5 cows who stepped in there holes and snapped a leg in half because of their digging after squirrels and marmots in our fields. Thankfully no horses yet. American badgers are no joke. Kill on sight unless they are in the woods. I also kill mosquitoes that land on me.
I love badgers, they are the cutest lil babes 💕💕💕💕😌😌😌😌
As are the boar piglets !!! So adorable 😌

Stunning film work and thank you so much for sharing it with us, I have them all around my home and often see them up to 10ft away but never as you have shown them.
A very lovely documentary thank you.
That badger den is so cute!
Badgers are carnivorans that belong to the family Melidae, they are native to Eurasia, Africa, and North America, there are over fifteen extant species within seven genera and four subfamilies
Taxonomy:
• Family: Melidae (Badgers)

Badgers are actually in the family Mustelidae
@gwentomologist, not anymore, Mustelidae is now restricted only to the weasels, ferrets, and minks, therefore the family no longer includes the skunks, stink badgers, otters, zorillas, muishund, shulang, huro, grisons, wolverine, tayra, and martens, which are all now moved to four different families, the skunks and stink badgers both now belong to the family Mephitidae, the fifteen extant species of badger are now lumped together into the family Melidae, the otters are now evaluated into the family Lutridae, and the zorillas, muishund, shulang, huro, grisons, wolverine, tayra, and martens are all now lumped together into the family Ictonychidae, similarly, Viverridae is now restricted only to the civets, while the feripaka, linsangs, oyans, genets, mongooses, falanoucs, fossa, fanaloka, and vontsiras are all no longer part of Viverridae, the feripaka is considered the only living member of the family Nandiniidae, the linsangs are now considered the only living genus of the family Prionodontidae, the oyans are now considered the only living genus of the family Poianidae, the genets are now considered the only living genus of the family Genettidae, the mongooses are now evaluated into the family Herpestidae, and the falanoucs, fossa, fanaloka, and vontsiras, which all live only in Madagascar are now lumped together into the family Eupleridae, this makes Mustelidae and Viverridae equally the most heavily reduced families of extant carnivorans.

Wonderful documentary!!!
I wish that the commentary had included locations. but the video is impressive and educational.
Fabulous documentary. At one time, I lived on a hobby farm named Badger Hill.😊
Nice!

Charming as the storytelling is, this footage would be interesting with an alternative soundtrack for adults interested in more detail about these creatures.
Very lovely to watch! Thank you!🐗
Although I've not seen them since the last cold snap that we've had recently, I am fortunate that I have a couple of these elusive creatures regularly visiting our garden. It's wonderful to see them up close from my balcony. It's a bit concerning regarding the culls I have heard about.
Culling is required for many species since our ancestors killed out most of the natural predators. Why do you think the government gives deer tags and tags for killing badger? Because that's the estimated amount that would have been killed by their natural predators if they still existed.
They are protected where I live as they are the state animal.
A juvenile male made his den under my wood pile. And I don't mind.they have to dig deep dens where I live as the Winters here can be brutally cold. So I don't see him until late spring.
Absolutely soul destroying that these beautiful creatures are cruelly culled in the UK.

I feel this would be a perfect narration for the life of a University of Wisconsin undergraduate!

How can salamander’s predators be its enemies since it keeps its numbers in control and prevents them from starvation?
Where was this filmed please? I know it’s a ZDF docu, but I’m not sure if this is in Germany.. 🤔
I wonder what kinda Bigfoot they got around der,lol
Curious as to the temperament of Europepean badgers, compared to US wolverines; which I thought were same thing?
Very different creatures. Even American Badgers are quite different than European badgers. Euros are far more social and primarily omnivorous, whereas AB and wolverine are more solitary hunters and primarily carnivorous. As a result, AB and Wolverines are much more aggressive. Euros can be aggressive, but usually it’s a defensive reaction when they’re surprised or startled, they typically won’t go after or approach other animals if they can avoid them. The others will poach prey from other animals and aggressively chase off intruders into their territory. That being said, all badgers and their wolverine kin are very strong, fearsome fighters and are typically very high on nature’s “don’t mess with” list.
European badgers look like they want to serve you tea and crumpets while the American badger looks at you like you owe it money.
Very little is covered about badgers
I wanted to watch this video because it was title “The Life of Badgers”.
The name does not represent this video.
Only about half of the video is about badgers, the rest is about other animals.
That’s a millipede in the video, not centipede! The ones that are poisonous he is talking about are millipedes
A sobering reminder of how many species are now missing from British landscapes. I found the narration too anthropomorphic and sentimental. That very human-centric viewpoint I don't think helps us understand better how to get on with our fellow creatures on this planet.
Cull is a fancy word for kill

Was that a feral cat?
A wild cat is different than a feral cat. This species is supposed to be in Europe and are very endangered.
A feral cat is a domestic cat that is unsocialized.
@@ebybeehoney so, was that a feral cat?
@@staywoke2198 no, it's a european wildcat.

" most animals sleep through the winter " WHAT? This channel makes False knowledge claims; bears hibernate during the winter. There are very few other animals that hibernate during the winter.
Badgers & hedgehogs sleep through the winter
Dormice, bats & red Squirrels to name a few.
Not false knowledge, but your obviously ignorant of British wildlife
There are many animals that hibernate. Look it up.
Especially the ones who live in areas that get especially cold.
I cant watch these animal documentaries anymore without knowing that there was a sound crew who made all the noises that we hear in the video. the animals grunting and the sound of their foot steps,
its all fake and its messing with my head. is that really how that sounds like, are the people making the sounds/noises staying true to what nature really sounds like, or are they just making sounds that they think is what we are suppose to hear? like seriously, i ffed myself bad with knowing its all fake. damn me. i wish i can enjoy watching the video without that intrusive thought nagging me.
its not real, that is not how any of the animals sound like, that is not what the plant sounds like, everything i hear is fake, how much is what i'm seeing fake? everything too!! omg
Are you crazy? What difference does it make, Really?
LOL youre right, i'm crazy, it doesnt make a difference and should just appreciate the art and work that the sound crew made. I'm just crazy.
