  • So I was all ready to weigh up some stuff for the scrapyard when the bathroom scales I had simply refused to work! Not a glimmer of life at all, even with a new battery! Oh well - it looks like I have a job to do before starting the job I was intending to do!

    You certainly took the confusion out of that circuit board! Great job.

      Well, there's probably lots of confusion still hiding there - I was just glad it stayed hidden! 😉

    I told you in the last video, Chris, Common things occur commonly! The switches are the most vulnerable, because they get wet and rusty when the bathroom floor is cleaned with a mop sloshing soapy water around 🙂 Happened to mine about 3 months ago. I sat here wanting to shout to you to ignore the board and look to the switches 🙂🙂 Well done. Logic triumphs!

      Yep Dave! And I did feel early in the diagnosis that it would be the switches - but I was thrown when the test lead short on the board didn't activate the circuit. I think some corrosion on that part of the board caused some problems there and resoldering it did the trick! Thanks mate 😊👍

    • @zs1dfr
      @zs1dfr ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheUltimateRecycler I'm sure you're right that resoldering helped, but the switches didn't make contact when you tried continuity, so the cleanup there also needed doing. Thanks for the video. Good lessons for us all!

    It seems the disassembly was more difficult than the repair. Although the solution was a bit of a head scratcher at first.
    Glad you got it going.

      Thanks mate! Yeah, it's often the case - especially on modern stuff that manufacturers don't expect to be ever repaired!

      Thanks Glen, I like to leave that in - even if I go down the wrong rabbit hole as it helps people understand the process. I enjoy listening to others diagnose problems and the reasons they take certain actions also! 👍

    A good analysis if you have the same type of bathroom scale. I was trying to fix my kitchen scale with some of the same tests. I discovered when I put it under load that instead of pulling 3.2V it was reading 2.7V. I put in a fresh battery and it works fine now.

    Nicely diagnosed... If you had some large known weights or dumb bells, it might be worth checking the accuracy just in case it's way off, either at low or high weighs.

    good fix, i was waiting particularly to see how those springs went back in. I picked up some analogue ones not long ago for scrap weighing, will never have these issues. (picked up some digital body fat ones also that give a different weight each time you stand on them also.. probably why they were discarded)

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The springs were easier than anticipated thankfully! Yeah, I have some mechanical ones somewhere - I think right at the back of the emergency storage shed! 🙄😲

    I would have struggled to get all those pieces back in place! Another impressive effort 😄
    I was confused when you said diode check, because that beeping mode is called continuity on my multimeter, and diode check is a separate mode that shows the voltage drop (or OL for open circuit). I assume they're both combined on yours, which makes sense.

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I'm glad you are enjoying these fixes! Yep - my meter calls the beep mode a diode check! 👍😊

      It happens a lot when batteries corrode. Sometimes you can get a suitable replacement from an old TV remote control or similar.
