One of my best friend's passed three days before the release. I was absolutely devastated when I found out. I called him to see if he wanted to see it the day he passed. A lot of the marvel series from here on forward is really hard to watch because we saw them all since iron man 3 together. He had so much knowledge of the marvel universe and hearing him talk about the routes they could have taken was so fun. RIP DAN OBERLE

Jesus, I am sorry to hear that. Seems like he was a really cool dude from what I read, and we would be about the same age. Reminds me of how life can be so short and not take it for granted. This year in particular has been horrible for me, I had a cholecystectomy followed by being diagnosed with severe sleep apnea (I only sleep around 1-3 hours per day) and followed by me being so damn tired I drank bleach by mistake at night because I left (like an absolute idiot) the damn Bleach jar on the countertop after cleaning during the day. Had to get an endoscopy afterwards. Wallet is at the edge of collapse but thankfully I just got called for a really good job interview, hopefully things turn around. Anyways, sorry for hijacking your thread, your friend just reminded me of how complex life can be and that in spite of the crap life puts in our way sometimes we have to learn to be grateful for the little things sometimes.

Marvel tried their damnest to cast the youngest possible actors, clearly wanting to avoid the american habit where the supposed teenager is played by an almost thirty year old guy/gal. Holland had the face, a very solid dance and gymnastics background, and was at the time only 19/20, so it was perfection.

IMO Keaton brought a lot to this role. He was threatening and scary even outside of his suit. Which I think is a big thing. If a villain is a joke outside of their kind of get up and schtick, then they won't be scary with it on.

I will always love that moment when he is trapped and crying out for help. You realize he really is just a kid, and he is scared and wants someone to save him.
Yet in that moment the words echo in his head, “if you’re nothing without the suit you don’t deserve it.” He realizes no one is coming, if he truly is a hero and is Spider-Man he can get out of this and save the day. He is the only one who can stop this from happening. He is the one who must do it, he is Spider-Man! What made him a hero was never that suit or Tony’s help, it was him and always him.
It gave me chills seeing this, because he stops crying for help and pushes himself further so he can get up and stop Vulture. It’s an excellent Spider-Man moment.

    • @Spidey-oi5sn
      @Spidey-oi5sn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

No offence but the whole scene is a total disgrace to the original comic aka If This Be My Destiny storyline and character, now i'm gonna tell you why:
      1. Spider-Man's entire arc in this movie is basically a cheap copy of Iron-Man 3, made in order to make Tony more important than he already was, which is lazy as hell, not to mention Peter gets the suit again at the end of the movie and another better one in both Infinity War and Endgame, contradicting the whole ending of Homecoming and making the entire thing pointless.
      2. the fact that Peter was thinking about Tony instead of the man who raised him aka Uncle Ben, while almost dying, it's the most forced and out of character shit ever. How is it possible to be motivated by a rich asshole who has done lot of fucked up things in the past and blackmailed a teenager to fight Captain America without any knowledge about the whole thing? Especially after he treated Peter like shit and took away the suit? It just doesn't make any sense, not even for the character itself, realistically Peter should've hated Tony and felt guilty about replacing his original father figure, but for whatever dumb reason he ends up simping for Tony and being motivated by him.
      3. the comic version had way more stakes and weight, Aunt May was literally dying in hospital and she needed a cure fast while Spider-Man was trapped into a giant extremely heavy steel machinery, the difference is that this time Spider-Man wasn't thinking about Tony Stark, he wasn't thinking that he had to be better than a stupid suit, he was thinking about both Aunt May and Uncle Ben, his family, the whole moment was about him forgiving his past mistakes and finally moving on, letting go of his guilt towards the death of Uncle Ben, which is the main reason why the whole sequence is by far one of the most legendary powerful and defining moments in the history of the entire character, and definitely way better than the crap we saw in Homecoming, it's honestly sacrilege to change such an important moment and waste it right in the first movie without any build up towards the third movie, just for bad fanservice, they completely fucked up everything, and i'll never forgive Jon Watts, the writers or Kevin Feige for having ruined such a great story and character, nuff said.

Definitely tough parenting trying to get a teenager to know exactly who they are when people still have trouble with that as adults in their 20s and some even past that.

I couldn't stand Tony in this movie. He abandoned Peter after the events of Civil War, and when he does show up it's just to lecture Spider-Man for not being a better Avenger even though Tony didn't do jack s--t to actually help him BE better. You say he's passing down knowledge that he learned in Iron Man 3, Tony didn't pass down anything, he just chewed Peter out for not already knowing something Tony had to learn the hard way.

Honestly the lesson I got from this movie was "The Small Things Matter" Crimes are crimes regardless of who or why your committing them. But that's what makes Vulture so interesting, he was an ordinary blue collar worker that wasn't trying to take over the world or universe, he wasn't even trying to take over New York. That's how he was able to Operate for so long, because the Avengers while they do save the world, they don't exactly pay attention to what's going on beneath and that's good because do you really want Thor going after muggers. That's why Spiderman turns down being an Avenger Green Arrow from the Justice League Cartoon said it best "I don't belong here fighting monsters, I just help the little guy and in a club like this you tend to forget about that"

With all due respect to Holden, the multiple comments of "waiting for the 'man' part of Spider-Man show a bit of ignorance of the early history of the character. For someone that claims Spider-Man is one his favorite, if not THE favorite, characters, Holden doesn't seem to understand that Peter Parker spent at least a year in comic-time (3 years real time) as Spider-Man before he graduated high school. CIVIL WAR took place about 6 months after he got his powers, and this story picks up immediately after CIVIL WAR. The stories being told here are EXACTLY the stories from the comic. Getting his start, he wasn't an adult. He was a kid trying to figure out how to be a hero and still get his homework done on time.
It's the origin story. It would be the same as asking why the first Iron Man film spent so much time showing the evolution of the armor. "Why is he building stuff, he should just be Iron Man already!"

I like Hollands Spidey more than Toby's or Andy's. He doesn't look he's in his late 20's to mid 30's trying to be Steve McQueen in *"The Blob".* They've 'almost' gotten the famous Spider Man patter figured out in this, and the next movie...something McGuire and Garfield *painfully* lacked.
*I also liked the fact that we finally got a comic book based movie, that, DIDN'T, kill off the bad guy. Especially when it's an ongoing nemesis that is a thorn for decades, in canon.*
I loved Michael Keatons portrayal of *Adrian Toomes* (i can even ignore the fact he's younger than Toomes), but it was an insipid choice, making him he dad of *Liz Allen.*
Who is *Flash Thompsons* love interest in the comics.
Whereas *Gwen Stacey* was Peters highschool crush, and later girlfriend, who's death becomes another pivotal event in his life, much as the death of *Uncle Ben* was.
Then there's the other unfortunate and/or confusing, character changes, like the lack of *Mary Jane Watson,* and if they are going to try to turn this *Ned Leeds,* (who Peter doesn't meet till he starts working for *The Daily Bugle* and they are both trying to get *Betty Brant* as a girlfriend....Ned Marries her) into his comicbook villain alter ego, *Hob Goblin?*
    Full character changes and/or deletions.
Storylines poorly mashed, scrambling timelines, along with character introductions.
And a lot of characters acting, out of character.
But I still enjoyed the Spidey Avengers Civil War cameo and the two films following....waaay more than those previously alluded to, first 5 films (Tobes 1st was ok, because of the unique effects, the 2nd had Alfred Molina, he was the perfect Doc Ock and Thomas Haden Church was the perfect Sand Man...nothing comes to mind as being good, from the Garf films)

32:00 The Liz-Vulture reveal is a parallel to the comics where Liz's step brother is the Molten Man. Who like Vulture, was a sort of c-rank Spider-Man villain, but by tying him to Liz Allen (one of the earlier side characters in the Spider-Man comics) became a fleshed out, nuanced character.
The original Vulture in the comics was an aged bank robber who created a flying suit, iirc.
Edit: Ned is also from the comics, but is a senior worker at the Daily Bugle where he was a love rival with Peter for Betty Brant. Ned was portrayed as a mature adult with his life together as opposed to Peter who was flaky and had other responsibilities. Which got very complicated after he married Betty and then got hypnotized into becoming the Hobgoblin.

Absolutely loved this video. The start with the editing of Spidey stealing the popcorn made me laugh out loud. Jenns calling Vulture the Trash Man had me cracking up. I loved the movie when I saw it and I think that Tom Holland makes the best Spider-Man and closest to the comic book spidey. Very excited for Thor Ragnorak. I think Jenn will really like that one and I’m betting she love Valkyrie.

I personally find this to be one of the best movies out of the MCU actually. It really besides being a good spiderman movie with an actual teenager as Spiderman also builds up the more ground level law of the MCU really well (how normal civilians live in this world and how stuff like the Avengers affect them)
In addition my absolute favorite scene from this (and for me one of the best scenes in the MCU) is the scene of Peter and Toomes in the car. How the conversation escalates more and more and the fact that they use the light of the traffic light they stop at as the realization of Toomes to who Peter really is (and in addition even get a "joke" out of it) is great

I really love the beginning of this film. I love watching him swing around New York and helping people etc. I really really wish they'd do a spider-man film of him in new york with an awesome villain we haven't seen yet that isn't connected to Tony. (though I love Vulture and Mysterio was still pretty cool) Just a simple Spider-Man story. I imagine we would've gotten that if they owned the rights, but maybe they are trying to rush things in the MCU with him in case something bad happens with the Sony deal.

Honestly I don’t know why they felt the need to take a character that isn’t Mary Jane and also call her MJ. They’re going out of their way to make it not Mary Jane, but they want to still want to use the equity of people knowing that Spider-Man has a love interest named “MJ?” Just let Spider-Man have a love interest named Michelle or commit to her being Mary Jane! =P

They made her name Michelle Jones. They did not need to. It’s not gatekeeping to think it’s odd that character with different personality has the same letters, as if fans are attached to “MJ” letters not characters. Why can’t they be their own people of have MJ be MJ? It’s not like Peter has dated only MJ in comics or something as well.

I also liked how he was portrayed in TASM 1. Starting off as a dickhead jock to actually saying sorry to Peter after he found out his Uncle died and growing as a character in the short time we got to see him. What sparked that change? Idek tbh but I liked it alot. Now that I think about it the MCUs Flash has gone through less growth with more screen time 🤔😂

    • @goldenstatewarriors9418

@@Antwannnn This is what people refer to when they say its comic book accurate cuz that was Flash in the comics.
