I'll be the odd man out. I really liked this episode. I didn't need to know about those people. They were simply *people*. Liken them to cavemen. Dumb and suffering and feral. In an instant - where there was war, they found peace. Wounds allowed literally to heal. Knowledge and resources shared. A baby need never fear starvation again. Humans heard music for the first time. Doesn't matter that it was Monster Mash. I didn't need to care about those characters. They were just stand-ins for the most basic human struggles. All this season, Juliet has battled metaphysical enemies. Darkness, the bends, infection, gravity, trust, the unknown, drowning/swimming, starving, suffocating, the madness of others, lies and secrets. I get the point they were trying to go for artistically. This is a rebirth, not only for Juliet and Jimmy and the feral family and for Eater. But for all of mankind, so our moral character must be tested and our right to survive must be re-affirmed by nature. That's the point. As a person who, day in and day out, watches humans undermine each other in every conceivable way for ever conceivable reason...it was really nice to see strangers, enemies even, make peace and see sense and be good to one another. I struggled not to cry to be honest, guys. I say all of this as a person who has largely not been entertained this season. I agree with the take that we shouldnt be so far ahead of our protagonist. All the events of this season, in both silos, could have been twice as fast and still made sense/had the same emotional impact. I want them to start making reveals the ultimate moments in episodes instead of breezing over massive lore reveals casually in conversation with Bernard in the middle of an episode (Or Jimmy/Solo). I am tired of these phony, lazy cliffhangers. So, I have my criticisms about pacing and writing. But I did get the point with the themes of the season and I have some mercy. I think we traded too much art for entertainment here, though. Edit 1: The writing around Martha's character is full-blown idiocy. Nonsense.
I thought this episode worked significantly better than much of the season, but it still feels like giving something bad credit for not being worse. -Ross
I haven't thought about it ... but maybe they can keep making the Silo deeper and deeper by mining new floors toward the Earth's core. Or maybe they are mining to connect all the Silo from below ground? Or maybe the AI is directing the silos to mine up a mountain where the air is fresh and clear? Also, why can't The Safeguard be sleeping gas to give people a beat? Conceptually, the Silo is fascinating ... so I want more!
I'm with Ross. They should have diverged from the book and created alternate storylines featuring the Silo 17 kids and their shenanigans. To replace endless stair running and water diving. Boy ... Barrett unloaded both barrels this time.
Y’all are wild. This was my favorite episode so far and inspired me to read the book because I couldn’t want to find out what happened. Today I found out that I’m definitely in the minority and I despise the book. Almost finished it and hated it so much I almost quit the series entirely. Every aspect of the show I like is completely absent in the book. The chapters were like 5-10 minutes a piece and swapped perspectives like holes at an orgy. I was so lost most of the time and as soon as I figured out where I was it was a new chapter. Absolutely horrible book. Still love the show and can’t wait for the finale. Show 5/5 Books 1/5
I enjoyed episode 9 and season 2 as a whole but I do agree that they could've handled the Silo 17 storyline much, much better. Keeping Audrey Pickle Rick and Eater a secret for so long was dumb. I still have hope for the finale and think they can learn from their mistakes for a rebound in Season 3.
Yes it feels like YA in plotting & acting. And boy is it padded. This whole show over two seasons could have been done better in one episode of Star Trek, the Original Series or TNG. There were a few with ‘human arks’ and programs that have gone a bit bonkers over time. It’s a very old sci-fi trope and all very obvious.
I completely agree with Barrett. One of the worst episodes of silo, especially in silo 17. Juliette suddenly is miracleously cured and shows no signs of injuries? Solo also completely is healed once they get back to the vault? The reveal of solo’s character was underwhelming. As for silo 18, billings change was too sudden and is not persuasive to me. So is Sim’s. Lucas’ story was not clear to me he wanted to tell Bernard about the bottom which suggests that he is still on bernard’s side. yet he also wanted to hide the book with his mom? Why? I'm not buying That Lucas is able to run around the silo without Bernard being aware
@@crimsonstreams You're suggesting Juliette and Solo utilized this technology and they decided to withhold that information from viewers for some reason?
I'm with Barrett on this one. The writing and a lot of the acting on this show is terrible - not just Common, but the head of mechanical and his girlfriend are awful too. And the mysteries just ain't that deep or interesting
Where are the mines and where did all of the water from Silo 17 go? Wouldn’t that amount of water flood over to Silo 18 and they would see it in the window. This show is so annoying.
Dear lord the guy on the left is such a contrarian just for the sake of being a contrarian 😂 bro is the only person on earth that didnt like the episode
No spoilers, but I’m promising you it doesn’t end with “Oh no, I guess we do have to stay down in the silos”. Shit happens. This season has only touched the second half of the first book.
Shouldn’t there be tons and tons of those suits hanging around? There aren’t in 17 and it seems like there not a lot in 18 since the old Judge wanted one. How can they keep an inventory on hand?!? Hate this show.
Everyone seems to forget Steve Zahn got scuba certified in White Lotus season 1

The concept of the silo and questions like that are the only thing keeping this show watchable haha
@@OystersClamsCockles Its kinda like ... Under the Dome ...but for adults until the YA kids from Silo 17 surfaced out of nowhere
And that the parents didn’t tell Solo that their children were starving?

Walker was a guy in the books.

Didn't Juliet's boyfriend last season mention that the water wasn't deep???
I remember someone saying the water wasn't that deep.
When Jules climbs down she drops her light and it sinks pretty far down so I’m not sure if that was a plot hole

There is technology in the books that can heal people that hasn’t been revealed in the show yet.

Why would water from Silo 17 flow over to Silo 18? They're deep underground. Like...hundreds of floors deep.
The water would have to be pumped to the surface. And there is a lot of water to drain.
