Pro FX bias, no?
I was so upset about Baby Colin on WWDITS and am very glad they wrote that out. I enjoyed the last season a lot!
Ross wyd? it's getting hard to defend you. Penguin didn't make your top 10 but rings of power in your top 3? Did we watch the same shows? I'll tell you one thing, and I'm not ashamed to say it, my estimation of Ross Bolen as a man just fuckin plummeted.
Disappointed Secret Lives of Mormon Wives didn’t make the list…
Excited for y'all to finally watch "From"
Nice lists - can't wait for you guys to get to Industry, and hopefully Ripley, which are my 2 favorites of the year by a LOT. Glad to see the love for Mr & Mrs Smith - it kinda scratches the same itch as The Americans (which is one of the best shows ever).
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
2024 was a banger, 2025 gonna be a banger, these boys know how to BANG... wait...
Mike Breen: “BANG!”
Absolutely Shogun! When it’s already 10 months away and I still am watching it back, either clips or whole episodes occasionally, whenever I want to feel things. Great shout out on Cosmo Jarvis! He hasn’t get enough mentioning of the multiple colours he paints for Blackthorne, requiring a masterclass of crafting to illustrate not a just character but slowly becoming a concept for us to associate. Watch out on him as he’s going to have three films coming out next year, with him playing a crucial character in Warfare (Alex Garland). I think you guys might want to cover it! 👍🏻
2024 was a solid year. Ripley being my undisputed number 1 and I don't think it even gets the love it deserves. Btw, despite what people think of HotD story-wise, it was probably one of the best shows visually. Like ever. Or am I crazy.. Anyways, Looking forward to 2025 fellows.
You are not crazy
Thank you for including Rings of Power and HotD!! they both deserve some love
💯
I complained about HOTD but after watching Silo S2, I highly appreciate house of the dragon S2!
😂😂😂
Sometimes all you need is a little perspective
Another great year in the books. Been here since 2017. Love you boys
Happy Early New Year’s fam. We appreciate the support!
Great year. Thanks guys
I love that Shogun was #1 cause that's the show I started watching you guys for, and have been a fan ever since. Though this is probably my last ep since Ross said Rings of Power season 2 is as good as the original LOTR trilogy?? Madness! Happy new year fellas
Hahah I fucking loved season 2 man stop the hate it was awesome
It’s boggling my mind that Shogun was this year, my god. So much content. In case you don’t hear it enough- THANK YOU guys for doing what you do. Pop culture is a never ending phenomenon & I’m grateful we have a pod like you to help us navigate.
We appreciate the support 🙏🏻
Happy end o' year boys. Thanks for all the content. Here's to 5 more seasons of Dune: Prophecy, at Ross's expense! 🍻💘
😂😂😂
I had stopped watching What We do in the Shadows a season or two ago. (Baby Colin just was too much) Now might go back.
They rebounded really well. Baby Colin Robinson was ass.
Slow Horses doesn’t get enough love. Jack Lowden is such an amazing actor
He’s damn good
Caught up on Industry this year. Think you guys will really gel with it. It “feels” like an HBO show, to which the last few HBO shows (besides HOTD) has been lacking in… if that makes sense.
Oh it definitely makes sense haha
And it just seems to get more confident and better every season. S1 is very good, season 2 is great, and season 3 is a masterpiece.
Y’all should watch day of the jackal on peacock. So good!!!
Thanks for the rec!
It’s sooooo damn good
I love how Tim Cook is Tim Apple now forever. Thanks, Trump. Timestamp: 03:25.
meh this pod kinda sucks when the guys clearly hate the show
I think the reason he couldn't just wipe out the sisterhood in one go is because it would probably kill him. Remember we saw that it takes a toll on his body after every use
season two is coming, not typical of a flop. try again
I'm here talking with y'all out loud like ur in the room with me agreeing with all my complaints about the bad execution of this story 😂
One of the few times you guys completely missed the mark. Ya'll need to dial into the story more because you missed/didn't understand a lot.
maybe this will be one of those shows where you'll feel you were too hard on in retrospect. It built up to the finale and was engaging, its okay not for some things to add up- you don't want it all spelled out for you, which you had no patience for when they did spell it out. Anyway, really enjoy your reviews. It just seemed like you had an attitude about this show from the beginning. But I could fully be wrong.
The show was great. Pass
Travis Fimmel said the power gets a toll on Desmond both physically and mentally everytime he uses it. That's why he touches his head. There must be some inherent ability that allowes Desmond to activate the virus by the way.
I don't think Ross should be allowed to stay up late and watch tv anymore. Cuz this wasn't a bad series. It had great set design. Great Sci Fi tech we haven't seen before. I mean, it is about space witches and huge desert worms so there is that. No real stars but the acting wasn't bad. Lila, for one, was rather brilliant the way she pulled off 3 distinct women. Valya on the run. I'm here for it!
41:57 Yes yes yes ... I've been saying since Desmond was regurgitated, that a Thinking Machine is hiding inside of a Shay Halud. A stowaway from the war. With its own torture lab.
The fact that this takes place 10,000 years in the past just feels so unbelievable. You could just make it like 500 years in the past and it would make a lot more sense.
You realize it’s still in our distant future, right? It’s only 10,000 years before Paul Atreides is born. It’s still like the year 13,000.
@@FKDotFitzgerald Oh yea I know that. What I mean by unbelievable is that it doesn't really feel like it's that far in the past from the films. 10,000 years is an insanely long amount of time considering how similar things feel.
@@bigtheratAh yeah I see what you mean. The tech seems largely the same, despite the 10,000 year gap.
Thank you for a sane take, this show was ass
I really liked this season! I understand why yall feel meh about it. I went in with zero expectations and was gonna be happy with whatever they gave us. This episode had my attention the whole time!
I made sure not to watch this finale past my bedtime and dug it too.
I totally disagree with your take but enjoy listening to you. Smiles. It helps to be not exhausted and awake when watching this finale. I am pleasantly surprised to be getting a season 2.
Emperoress is motivated by climbing the ranks it’s in her DNA. Please watch the show again I beg you
18:24 Doratea knew the bodies were in the well because of her vision during that scene where she saw blood draining on the floor into the well.
still dumb
I'm pretty much the opposite of y'all. I understood what they were saying and going for, and the ending definitely paid off really well IMHO
Same I don't get this take I don't know anything about dune (hadnt watched the movies even) and was able to follow it so this take is strange to say the least
@Breezyk4832 there's a common thought I've heard multiple times from different channels I follow on here, and it's basically bewilderment and lack of understanding as to what the show is about. Mind you, some of these people are super deep into the lore and others are not. I'm over here like.... Seems pretty clearly like the show is about how the Harkonnens rose up through the BJ and how that ultimately shaped some of the pillars of the Dune we're seeing in the present movies, which are all I've seen. Right off the bat the show is screaming in your face that this is 10k years before Paul, and that's really important to know because the chain of events in the show way, way, way in the future lead to important things happening in the Dune movies.
Maybe the virus transmission wasn't super exciting but it seemed coherent within this world. Feeding on fear works for me. Harkens back to when Paul Atreides stuck his hand in that box.
Each time Desmond uses the virus he gets hurt so he can't kill everyone at the same time. Fear increases the potency of the virus hence why they were trying to avoid things that provoke fear. Kasha was able to tolerate the virus for longer and that's why she was able to survive longer than the others. Hawktulla mentioned this
I agree. Each time we see Desmond drained after frying people up. And the sisters have been training their minds so they wouldn't be as easy as everyday folk.
He could still kill them all, just take 15 min breaks...
@@TobiasLuceexcept that it doesn't work from afar. Kasha was able to travel with it
The show would’ve been better if it took the time to establish all the background info they skipped over. But if you know all that, the show’s amazing
You guys might be too critical for me,you kinda sound like casuals
😂
Been waiting
First!
and by the way.... the whole season was meeeh
Excellent show, I disagree with this guy.
I decided to go back and listen to ALL the books and short stories in chronological order. After the first short story the first book is called Butlarian Jihad. It sets the base for everything with the main story being about the war between man and the thinking machines. The visual at the end of Episode of the robot in the worm is right out of that book. At some point man is going to defeat the machines but I bet one escapes ……….
These guys suck
The penguin did exactly what they wanted to do. Got me excited for the Batman 2
Love the recaps but can't say I'm really enjoying Dune: Prophecy. The longer the show goes on the less interested I'm becoming and wondering what is even the point, since there's almost definitely going to be nothing that directly connects to or sets up Dune 3. But Travis Fimmel is the man, he's carrying the show for me at this point
Here is my theory about Desmond, so let me know what you think. I don't think the virus will kill Desmond. I don't think it's a coincidence that the revelation about Desmond's identity comes shortly after Raquella's discovery. The Harkonnen and Atreides genes make him similar to Paul, so he's already a special person. This combination of genes could play a key role in how Desmond uses this power. Even if it's the action of the retrovirus, it's clear that Desmond's mental ability is needed to control that virus. After all, if AUNT Valhia managed to create The Voice, it's possible that her dear nephew Desmond, after being somehow exposed to the retrovirus (maybe even as a child after Tula abandoned him) but he was immune and maybe unconsciously he was able to modify the retrovirus, transforming it into a new weapon. Furthermore, we found out the virus is also the cause of the Sisters' nightmares, but these nightmares were about the worm, the eyes and what happened to Desmond on Arrakis. So the effect of the spice must also be taken into account. There is a scene in episode 4 that I think is very important, where one of the young Sisters sees in her nightmare not only the blue eyes but herself with her eyes sewn shut and cutting her throat. Those sewn eyes made me think of what Paul Atreides said: “Try looking into that place where you dare not look! You'll find me there, staring out at you!”. Those same blue eyes then overlap with Desmond's eyes in the same episode. So, the blue eyes could therefore refer to more things, such as the presence of a potential Kwisatz Haderach (Desmond) with both natural and artificial abilities.
The voice has limitations in the novels. The more it's used on someone the more resistant they are to it. If someone knows the voice is going to be used then they can snap out of its trance. No one outside the sisterhood even suspects that the voice is a thing, its supposed to be kept secret as that is part of its strength. If Paul were to go and use the voice on everyone it would lose its power eventually.
