- Here we have a very cool 70's Japanese made Strat, manufactured in the Matsumoku factory under the name Westminster. The Matsumoku factory manufactured nice guitars for a lot of different brands including Ibanez, Greco, Tokai etc.
This is the best strat I’ve ever heard
These old Japanese strats sound great !!
I bought a new Westminster Stratocaster model (SE330) in 1977 for 30,000 yen.
After that, I changed the middle PU's tone to a rotary switch and modified it so that it could be in series/parallel, phase in/out. I still like it because it sounds good.
Thank you for the great video.
That’s awesome!
This thing sounds incredible. Japan made guitars are the best discovery in my 30 years of playing.
That's incredible, they sound like original strats for under 1000 euros
Wow gorgeous gutiar i love it sounds great
@@joshuadurocher8071 thank you!
Awsoom playing man!! Love Japanese guitars!!
You just got my subs! :))

Thanks friend! Me too!
This demo Is sick bro! Keep Posting!!!
Wow, sounds great and awesome playing 👍👍👍👍👌
Nice finger picking. And nice guitar. I recently bought an old Westminster Tele-style guitar built in the mid-70s. Love it.
Sounds beautiful
Nice playing and it is a cool sounding strat! Man!
Awesome tone and playing! 😍 For other tone geeks out there, we have linked to your video at our new guitar site. Hope that's fine with you
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the channel!
Great sound bro
great sounding strat indeed!! only pity is the 3-way switch, but I think that it's an easy fix if one wants to get the standard blended pickup sounds
I have a "Belmont" strat which is identical.
They have Maxxon pick-ups...which sound fantastic.
Maxxon made the original Ibanez Tube Screamer.
Great playing by the way!
maxxon also made the dry z pickups that people are selling for 1k each
Slick playing and an even better t shirt. Uh huh huh huh.
Heh yeah! Heh. Heh.
Here’s comes Krokus to kick your ass!
beautiful...
Killer playing!!
Poppin’ and smooth... like carmel corn in a butter dish. What string gauge?
Usually standard D’Addario 11s. I think I had the guitar tuned down a bit though for this video. Small frets and whatnot
Like a good Fender !
@@cassatofoo09 yeha these old Japanese guitars are great!
Awesome!
pretty sure Westminster brand was closed down by Matsumoku in the early 70's. I think i have a 73 LP copy by Westminster but dating them is hard. I've never seen one like mine online or elsewhere and the only place i found any good info online indicated that no Westminster LP's were made with Set/glue necks, only bolt-ons. Mine is a set neck. Supposedly they shut down Westminster and focused on Greco as a better brand. who knows. hard to find good info on this. Gonna get a strat Westminster eventually. this was a great little demo. thanks!
hello nice review, your a prodigious guitarist, i have a question. what set do you used to make that tone?? so strat, so early 70's
Thanks amigo! I’m using a Wampler Ego Compressor into the Vox model on a Strymon iridium plugged straight into my audio interface for the guitar sound. It’s my super portable fly rig, but it works well enough for little demo videos of stuff I find in second hand shops
....and good Player , too !😏
@@cassatofoo09 thanks man!
❤
Nice sounding Japanese vintage. Cool video dude. Anyway how much that usually cost?
Joseph Reyes depends on the model and the rarity of the features!
Clifton Wright but the one you are using? Price point?
Joseph Reyes I’m asking $400 for this one on my Reverb Page.
Nice playing and great sound! What amp are you using?
It’s an ego compressor into a Strymon Iridium into my UAD Apollo into Logic. Real simple and easy!
@@cliftonwright7081 thanks!
Hi. Does the neck mounting plate say "steel reinforced neck made in Japan"? I just bought a Univox I'm trying to date. Looks identical.
I don’t believe this one does, but that is typical of Matsumoku manufactured guitars built from the early 70s through the early 80s.
Could you do a lesson on the lick from 1:26 to about 1:30. Would be eternally grateful to you. Smokin’!
Hey, that’s a good idea! It’ll be a little while before I can set up my home studio again, but I’ll try to get something together soon.
Thanks Clifton. As a transcription project I’m learning all your playing from this video from start to finish and got stuck at this section. Love your playing!
Hi just out of interest, how much was this selling for?
is there reverb or slapback on during this?
I honestly don’t remember, but it kinda sounds like a little plate verb and tape echo blended in on the aux channels to me.
Sounds exactly like a strat
Needyou in my band!!!!
the japanese les pauls are going through the roof but you can still gets the strats for under 1k
