    Re: ethics - I had to study ethics as part of studying to be a clinical psychologist. I think the trick with professional ethics is you enter into relationships that alter your normal ethical obligations - often in challenging ways. We have to learn to put client needs first in most contexts (e.g., avoiding multiple relationships with them), while also retaining professional boundaries (e.g., clients don't have my personal phone number, so they can't wake me up if they're sad at 2am). Most of it is not ethics in the philosophical sense, but rather practical and legal considerations that we need to take.

    I wonder if you actually want to engage in a discussion about ethics or just dunk on twitch chat.
    It seems very weird for the same person to say that "you should treat your partner well" is obvious and it's impossible to say if dash is a good card. The first one has infinitely more interactions that than the second. The fact that you don't or can't calculate them doesn't mean they don't exist.
    Even simple things like saying you like something they did even though you don't particularly care is a contentious ethical issue. On one hand you shouldn't make them feel bad for nothing, but on the other hand because people do this it makes it harder for people who actually liked it to be believed.
    Philosophy as a whole has no answers, all you can do is stop asking questions and be content with your imperfect understanding and biases.
    In other words, you can play Slay the Spire pretty well without thinking too much about each decision, doesn't mean those were obvious decisions, same thing with ethics.

    • @wilddogspam
      @wilddogspam 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's kinda easy in the opposite way that math is easy, as in ethics is only easy if you don't try to describe it precisely and unimaginably hard to do so. Math is easy because you can describe all of it precisely, but hard to form good intuitions about.

    @jgray2718 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jorbs, I love your videos and I've learned a ton about StS from watching them, but it does annoy me when you're unnecessarily snarky to make question-askers feel stupid.
    For example, someone asked why you took the blue key in mid act 2 over a good relic (Question Card), a thing I was wondering as well. I would have taken Question Card 100% of the time there. Your response was an attempt to make the questioner feel dumb for asking a good question. There were probably 10 - 15 card rewards left in the run at that point including 2 bosses, and your deck would have really liked a Biased Cognition, another Glacier, maybe a Leap, and giving up percentage to find them just to take a key with over half the run left still seems odd to me, and I'm still unclear on why you did it.
    Yes, I heard a minute or so later when you explained that Defect solves turns 1 - 2 with relics most of the time, which makes sense but doesn't explain why you would give up on getting good cards. Yes your deck is absurdly good and full of good cards, but obviously more opportunity to find good cards is still valuable. The only reasonable reason to take the key there is if you think that Question Card is the worst relic you will see in a chest for the rest of the run, even considering that you get more time equity from it than subsequent relics, and it would surprise me if that was really true.
    I love your videos for the discussions of things like frequency distributions, decision trees, and time equity, so I feel like it's a shame when you forego one of them in favor of trying to make a viewer feel dumb.

    • @Jorbs
      @Jorbs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the exchange is (very slightly paraphrased):
      "why did you skip question card there?"
      "i took blue key to get to act 4, i thought that was better"
      (i stop to talk about a turn i'm playing and thank someone for supporting my channel)
      "why'd you think blue key was better than question card?"
      "the deck has a bunch of really good cards already. defect doesn't usually solve turn 1 problems with cards (i'm guessing i'd mentioned earlier that we had turn 1 problems) defect usually solves turn 1 problems with relics".
      you're writing four paragraphs about how i'm unnecessarily snarky for that?
