I grew up racing with Tony since the late 90’s. Ive seen him qualify for southwick more times than I can count. I say YES!! He can do it. Guy is a freak of nature on two wheels
Super cool memories sir. A friend of mine got to race the great Donnie Schmit. Always do your best and have fun. Never quit when you still have something to give. It's not a funeral, make some noise. Privateer power.
@@johnnycash578 12th in first moto, 40th in the combined qualifier, didn’t make the cut but got 8th in the consolation moto. Respectable day for a rider of any age.. nevermind 52 years old
I used to race Tony in NESC and he for sure always beat me. I will be cheering for him this weekend! It was so much fun racing Southwick in the expert class the weekend before the Southwick national. A lot of pro's would come race with us to get accustomed to the track. It was especially fun because I got to beat a bunch a pro's on our beautiful treacherous Southwick track that we New Englanders love and adore. Thanks Keith Johnson and everyone else for keeping Southwick alive!
Tony Lorusso is a savage. He is one of the coolest dudes in the sport. He was always willing to have a conversation in the pits. Never brushed people off. Glad to see him still laying down fast laps. YOu cant help but want to see him succeed. Truly a nice guy who deserves this.
@@joshbartel7384 The fastest I ever went? Not at 20 when I started racing, but over 40. 60 now, and if I did not have cancer, I could get in shape and figure out how to go that fast again. Probably take me 2 years of good work with no injuries though. It is not hard to beat this generation of kids. I expect a top 20 finish.
My eyes how I witnessed Tony when I was about age 11 or 12 at Capeway Rovers. I remember watching Tony race a KX105 bigwheel in the 125 A-class around 1986 timeframe. He must’ve been about 14 back then. All eyes were on Tony Lorusso that day as he dominated the 80 class on his 80, and then heavily competed in 125 class on his bigwheel. It was more than exciting to watch Tony. That same day JoJo Keller was racing his CR250 which was also total domination. From this special day for myself, I was addicted to Moto for “life”.
I remember watching Jojo in the mid-eighties on his CR 125 whip everyone in the deep sand of Southwick while tipping the scales at not an ounce under 250lbs. It was almost comical watching these slim kids working so hard to keep him in sight only to watch him ride away from them. How did such a big guy make such a small bike go so fast? Either way, it was a sight to behold, watching him make that little bike fly.
I met Tony at Englishtown raceway park in new jersey back in 1998 and i was asking him about the factory connection suspension he had on his bike because i had the same bike and he got off his bike and told me to do a few laps on his bike and see how i liked the suspension, i was shocked 😲, A National rider telling me to ride a few laps on his bike 😊 , i thought wow what a nice guy.
This is Great! I remember Tony came down to Tallassee, Alabama in 2000 and raced A class at Monster Mountain MX Park and won by a mile. Good Luck Tony! Pullin for you!
Where did the time go? He can't be that old already, that would make me old. Good luck sir. I am glad that I got to meet you at the magnificent Millville and some sx races. Super cool. Always do your best and have fun. Never quit when you still have something to give. It's not a funeral, make some noise. Privateer power.
52 its only a number. I'm 62 now and been racing since I was 13 and I know by first hand age is defiantly only a number. If you keep in shape and keep with the sport your age does not always mean you get slower. I say go for it Tony!
I wish him all the luck in the world and for having the motivation to just get in shape and practice at his age, that alone is admirable. "Old Guys Rule".
I remember watching Tony own the 80cc class back in the mid-eighties on his YZ 80. He'd win everything he entered (except when this chubby kid from New York would show up. I think his name was Scott Sheak 🤣), but Tony would be right on his rear fender the entire time.
I believe that John Dowd's accomplishment was the oldest to ever podium in the AMA Motocross when he did it at Southwick that year. In the 70s Wyman Piddy was making Nationals in his 50s and I think he might have raced until his mid 50s.
yeh man i feel better now at 54 than i did when i was 24. i'm in better shape, workout, eat better see a chiropractor regularly, do yoga. if i did this back in the day i would have placed much much better in motocross. Go get em Tony
Nutrition, health and fitness have evolved so much in the past 20 years. Add in how fast we have info/knowledge at our fingertips and I couldn't agree more with you!
Most don’t realize how hard it is to qualify for a pro event. I’ve seen many of local riders win big and never make it in a pro main. Leaves you scratching your head and I’m sure they are very discouraged. That’s great if he can do it at 52, records were meant to be broken
Noooo dont tell me this! I too will want to try (59yo and still dreaming of getting back into racing 😄😄) More seriously- All the best Tony! Show those young kids how sand racing is done!
Lol 52...Tony has decades of experience on us. I was scared to even be next to an older cat on a veteran track. They just ride different. Lil sloppy, fast as hell, mad at their wives, pulling huge airs that almost land them into the portapotty and always ripping 500's .They will hunt your ass down like you're just an impala in the serengeti . But i think Tony has more control than those other 52 year olds LET'S GOOOOOO TONYYY!!!!!! 🤘😂🤘
I think 50 years old isn’t what it used to be. I see some of these guys in their 50s and even 60s that rip on a dirtbike and you can definitely qualify. Don’t kid yourself.
Not me anymore, (because I stopped riding for 2 decades, and feel like a beginner again), but i know several 60 plus year old guys in Michigan who can rip that baby smooth track just as well. I can get back to speed pretty fast on that track.
From experience one broken hip in the wrong place and it's a rap, not how fast and smooth you can go, it's how fast and hard you can hit the ground and not shatter. Hope he gets every pad ever made from a sponsor.
"Wick it up?" Ooof...That's as corny as announcer Jason Weigandt referring to Hunter Lawrence as "the hunter" going to "hunt down" the guy in front of him...Yuck!
His only problem is that he is not a true factory bike. Otherwise he would compete and get a top 5. The factory bikes are opposite of any other bike. Listen to Ryan Hughes.
Truly one of the nicest guys in the sport. You can do it Tony, show the young kids how a Southwick legend can find the fast way around the Wick.
how did he do????
Came up 4 spots short on timed qualifying and 4 spots short on the qualifier race. It was a good effort for the old guy.
I’m in.
Go Tony. The Motoweb will explode

57 here, I can’t imagine. Super gnarly if he makes it, definitely be cheering Tony on Saturday✊🏻
I’m 39 and can’t imagine running laps like I did when I was 25!!! And to qualify at the ‘Wick?!

Let's go Tony! I want to see him qualify and do well!
Not only qualify. Look for him to fight his way into the top 20. Let's Go Tony.
For sure!
"Fight his way into the top 20"? He got a much better start in this race. :)
That’s so cool! I’m so psyched that came across my feed. It makes me more fired up to ride both the tracks he owns! Go Tony!
He will definitely get in he still kicks the butt of most of the local riders that made it into southwick before.

South wick is only track where Legends in then Area can come Qualify! It’s that gnarly !!
Fact! 👍
All the best to Tony, he has Smooth Style. Quite a Guy. Cheers!-ill tune in.
He absolutely can and will do good too! Ive seen Tony race at Southwick, awesome racer! I have been going to Southwick nationals since 1979
will be watching - I think it will be tough for Tony to crack that field but it's his back yard so give it a shot!

Interesting I’ll have to check that out about Wyman. From the vault I see Dowds last national was 2013 but he finished outside the top 10 both motos.

52? No way. I'm sure he's awesome, but father time does things to your body. I wish him luck.
