- The labrum is a ring of soft fibrous tissue that surrounds the glenoid (the end of the shoulder blade) and helps stabilize the shoulder joint. Ligaments and tendons can attach to the labrum and when the labrum is torn, the shoulder becomes painful. A torn piece of labrum in the shoulder will cause much pain.

Ive had this surgery on both my shoulders. It helped tremendously with stability and strength it's worth it if you have torn your labrum!
I would get it done. im a senior in high school and i got this done last week. its felling better. if your in good shape go for it. it hurts at first but nothing a teen cant handle
I'm 6 weeks out and it feels pretty good. Just started PT a couple of weeks ago. I should be out of the sling in a couple of days
This doc did my surgery. Painful recovery but its great now
I had two shoulder surgeries in 2001 and 2002 for labrum tears. 10 years later and still having trouble. They did use anchors to re attach. Doctors appointment coming soon and hope I don't need a third.
I had this done about 2 years ago on my right shoulder. It sucked so much. It still bothers me all the time and I dont have full range of motion. Was out skiing about 8 months after the right side and was on a back bowl and fell and tore the left in 2 places. Not doin surgery again. For you guys in recovery keep up the good work and do everything they tell you in physical therapy. It helps so much
i had surgery on my left shoulder in Aug 2009, still dont have my full rotation (stiff). it was both physically and mentally tough, especially the first couple of weeks after surgery. my advice, you got to be prepared, have someone around to help you out, keep your mind off the shoulder and just take it easy :)
Maxpassion17. I was 38 when mine was done and I had the labrum scoped and from not having It addressed for 10 years I developed a gleniod cyst in my shoulders socket. The cyst required 3-4 incision on the front side of my shoulder. They took the cyst out and replaced it with a bone graft. The surgery went well and lasted 2 hours. The hard part is rehab. Now being I was older and the cyst my recovery seemed longer about 4-5 months. I'm sure yours will be faster as being an athlete and being yo
I’ve had the surgery. So are those ropes/anchors forever in my body, keeping my labrum in place?
I was going to ask the same...
The anchor is absorbable, not too sure about the suture lines
Getting this in less than 2 days. I don’t even play sports I literally just fell wtf
I'm having it on Monday as well!! I was weightlifting and I dislocated my shoulder 3 times the same day. wishing you a fast recovery!
Same as me!! Going to get this surgery in a month time! Fell on a stair, shitfaced at a nightclub in 2014..
How was your recovery?
@@Zifffan it was good man, just go to every pt appointment and listen to your therapist, mine only lasted like 4 months, 2 times a week, all the strength is back it seems, I’m doing push-ups and stuff now. Everyone’s experience is different tho depending on the injury genetics diet and so on it seems. Good luck!!
@@parojulian Cool! Very nice to hear your surgery and healing went well. Thanks for the good wishes, and thanks for the reply!
@@moustafamalek7464 can you do wheightlifting again ? i habe the same it sucks
I had the surgery January 2nd I got myself during football into different separate plays and ended up tearing it in October didn't get the surgery till January 2nd I'm doing a lot better now but for the first month it was really bad
Hey man how does your shoulder feel now? I’m thinking of getting it.
@@dubbazify thanks for asking im doing 100% better I recovered last July it was a very long process something that I never wanna do again in my life because it was just really challenging. But I’m stronger now and I’m all good.
Hey I’m a year this month since my surgery and was wondering did your shoulder ever pop during recovery? Not sure if it’s a bad thing since it happened to me.
@@miguelsalazar1683 yeah I noticed my shoulder was still popping after 1 month or so after the surgery. But I was told that don’t try and test it until u are 100%, or else if u keep popping it, it won’t heal correctly. So I never tried it again until I was fully recovered. Even to this day I try it and luckily for me I can’t hear anything pop.
@@bostonwarrior4824 yes mine would pop when I would sleep mostly when I would go on my side. I asked my surgeon but he said it’s normal. It still pops but it doesn’t hurt. It also feels less stiff it’s a weird feeling since it’s been stiff for a while. How does your shoulder feel regarding stiffness ?
just had mine done yesterday .The total procedure was just under 3 hours
I can´t realy see any options? A SLAP injury is terribly painful, As I write this I have a new SLAP on my other shoulder and its absolutely horrific!
Highly informative video. Thank you for the upload.
Was out all last season with my left one, now I have my right surgery in a week in a half. This surgery is not fun, but can have fast recoveries
suerte campeon
My wife had a SLAP repair with two anchors and it is a SLOW heal. Just over 6 months and she still has some pain and has not regained all of her range of motion. Also two fingers on that hand keep going numb. Seeking to figure that out. At least the pain is now less than it was pre-op.
@dandan611
I agree, I just had surgery on my left shoulder on Dec 13th and it was horrible for the first couple weeks and I still am in a decent amount of pain. My shoulder was pretty torn up though so that might be the reason it still hurts a bunch.
I tore my right labrium in nov. of '08, had to have a slap repair w/ 4 anchors 5 months later. That surgery only lasted a yr and a half befor I had to have another one. It is now about 14 months later and I already need another one!! After the second surgery the doc said the only thing left that he could do was to sever my bicept muscle! Getting other oppinions
Underwent this surgery, and I regret it so much!!
Cali4niaboy99 can You tell me why please, I'm recommended that undergo this surgery but I'm afraid that it might go wrong ?
Yes I had this as well and it has not lasted the distance. All symptoms returned..... i never regret things. I chose to give it a go as it was worth the risk at the time.
Having this one tomorrow morning lads
Recovered well? I had mine 4 weeks ago and start physio today.
Never got all the movement back but just about. The rehab is very important to do properly
i been playin on my shoulder all season and some of last season..gettin the surgery done tomorrow
I'm a high school senior having orthroscopic surgery next week to repair my torn labrum. Any recommendations for preparing or for recovery?
What is the chance of it coming undone or untied
Are you sure you had a SLAP repair? Took me 9 months before I even could consider taking the sling out. Two years before I dared lifting light weights. Perhaps you had an impingement surgery?
How do u feel now? I had this 12 years ago and not I have to do it again on the opposite shoulder. SLAP injuries are horrible, took me a year to recover last time.
This surgery is no FUN! Had it twice on the same shoulder (arthroscopic Bankart) I wish I never had it! I'm still in Pain over a year and a half after the second surgery!!
I am a swimmer in high school. It's my junior year and I am on the path to swim D1 in college. My labrum in my left shoulder is tore 360 degrees. Doc said its the second time he's ever heard of it. I don't know whether to have the surgery or not. It seems to not even work. Help.
What did you end up deciding and how did you recover?
How are you feeling 1 month after surgery? I had left done 4 years ago and need the right done but for some reason I'm a little scared now.
I tore my left shoulder labrum 2 years ago. Doc said rest and workout should be ok. One year later I swung the bat and was in immense pain. I tore it swinging btw. I still haven't gone but I want to get it done cause my ball playing days aren't over yet.
I'm having this done tomorrow. Any advice?
Seems like some of us are made to get SLAP injuries. Ive had it on and off for over 12 years and now its real bad again, so I need another surgery. Takes me at least six months with no movement and as much time with terrible pain. The surgeons say "you'll be up and running in three weeks" but thats veeery wrong. Took me the better part of one year just to be able to move it somewhat freely, then another year with pain.
ok gracias, pero si tenias el poppin en el hombro?? ya dijeron que si necesito la operacion, pero no estan seguros todavia si es el labrum
I had seven anchors put in mine. I had global instability. I lost about 30% of my labral alone. They had to stich back my bicep muscle in the process also.
@jdbly68 Not sure on the exact size of my tears, but they were pretty big, left shoulder took 3 small anchors to fix, and my right shoulder took 5 large anchors to repair. As for your "frozen" shoulder, i just had surgery #5 on my Left 6 days ago cuz it would "lock/freeze" on me. Turned out with the original Labrum tear, it also stretched one of the ligaments to the point it lost its elasticity, so the flopping of that ligament was getting caught up in the shoulder and causing it to lock.
qué sucede si la parte posterior del labrum se adelgaza en forma lineal?? y además, qué sigifica el síndrome de pizamiento subacromial por hipertrofia acromioclavicular??
Gracias
@looknohands855 i am wondering if you have had the shoulder replacement and if it went well, who did it. my labrum has been torn from 2 to 5 oclock for 20 years and my body has reaborbed most of what was torn off (as my surgeon only repaired my shoulder cuff tear). i will probably need a replacement too.
Por fin vi claramanete lo que me hicieron 2 veces y vamos por la 3º.
Muy buen video GRACIAS
I did my surgery on Tuesday my doctor didn't have to put screws in he just stitched and cleaned it up but from time to time I feel twitching in my arm I don't know should I be concerned about that
I had this done in Feb '15, labrum was 100% torn, leaking fluid into the shoulder capsule, 7 months later it is just now starting to feel like "normal".....
A los 4 meses vas a poder empezar a hacer pesas pero muy despacio y on poco peso, a los 7 meses estas para hacer de todo, llegas a al verano bien.
@NFLAXBRO you better.? im about to get this but i dont want my shoulder to get worse
I'm 100% convinced that all of you stating you still have pain years later didn't go to physical therapy or quit doing your stretches. ESPECIALLY the younger people saying they still feel pain. Stretch. Go back to PT. You can't get the surgery and not do the PT and assume everything will be great. You have to train your body to get back to where it was before the tear. Surgery is only one of many steps in the healing process.
im getting this done on monday...
im facing this surgery in a week, due to a motorcycle accident, what is it like after. 100% movement or what
they dissolve, but nothing is that simple
im getting this done sometime in the next 6 weeks
and how is your shoulder now can you do high intensiv sport again?
is this a new procedure? using different anchors? i had a labrum repair done in 2004 but i was explained different.
how long will it to take recover guys
4-6 weeks, PT about 6 months
Pretty nervous mines tomorrow
How are you doing now?
@Cali4niaboy99 why.?
Cool
I got two Post labral tears. one on the right and on the left. trying to do PT over surgery right now.
DON'T GET SURGERY ASAP BELIEVE ME DO NOT HOLD OFF SURGERY PT ONLY WORKS AFTER SURGERY
lori bloom I got surgery on my right 10-6-15. it is doing okay. surgery was not so bad, but I get out my sling on the 16th
+aesthetics williams I ment go get surgery lol stupid spell check
aesthetics williams I
tenias el poppin en el hombro? a mi me van a decir mañana si necesito el repair y tengo el poppin en el hombro...que pensas?
This is the worst fucking shoulder problem i have ever Encountered and so far it is the only one! It is s freaking fucking disaster that is all.. Consider yourself lucky if you ever get any use back in your arm and really think about worst case scenarios before you dive in for a surgery that will ruin your life thats all.
i'm an semi professional athlete at FC Midtjylland ( im a goalkeeper) and i have this sort of problem and it's defiantly the worst off all time. i just turned 16 and last year i got this surgery 10 months later i had the same problem after a dislocated shoulder. i'm going to have a new surgery 28th november and the same recovery all over. stay positiv guys even tho you have this problem.
@javagamedev Forever.
que yo sepa son como 4 meses pero puede que yo este mal :)
They have new medical equipment to use but I have to have the surgery next week any suggestions on how to calm my anxiety
How did it go, Sir? How stable is your shoulder now?
Ja Morant was hear.
4 years post surgery today. Let me tell you the first 18 months are not fun. Shoulder feels week, constantly feeling like it’s going to pop out. 4 years later and it it feels relatively normal, minus the diminished range of motion.
You surfing too? I’m a year post op and think I busted it this past weekend.. what’s it feel like to rupture the anchors? Do I have to do surgery again I can’t tell. Awfully sore and couldn’t work out.
After recovery period and got the go ahead - Still did all my workouts and surfing but always felt it would pop out any time
Mja aa gya
becoz i am going to take it on next 7 days
Well, I just learned that not only do I need to repair my labrum, but I also need a bone graft because I chipped the front off of the shoulder socket and the chipped bone healed itself like sideways or something. Now instead of some puncture holes I’m getting a mega incision that will go from the front top of my shoulder all the way to my arm pit. Fml.
How'd it go?
RIP Jay Cutler
I have a Chronic Degenerative Glenoid Labrum in my left shoulder. I have weakness, popping, Shoulder feels loose, Rubbing and catching. I don't see any Surgery on here that show's how to repair the Degenerative Glenoid Labrum. Has anyone had this Surgery done before? Any thoughts?
