    This was a tremendous help. Carbs were overhauled 18 months ago, though clogged up again.... watched this, pulled them apart and back together again. Working beautifully. Thank you for taking the time to show this! Saved me $$$$!!!

    I am again going to thank you for the excellent video. I just did the Carbi removal and clean as you show in your video and had excellent results. My motor was leaking gas by just pumping the bulb, and now it runs great. Easier that it looks but not for beginners I guess. The screws on my bottom 2 float bowls were corroded nightmares and took quite awhile to remove without damaging the carbi. Motor might have went swimming in salt water. Bought as parts motor, was seized, now runs great..............thanks........................

    Hello Todd, This video was excellant! As a result I found the courage to tackle this project, completing same using exactly the parts you listed. A daunting task, but 5 hours later she seems to idle great! A sea trial will be the real test, for I may have to tweek the idle mixture screws. For now just set back 2 1/4 turns from a light seat. Many Thanks, John

    Help thanks again I got it done today. Set up my table in garage and pause your video step by step.
    The little things you didn't show that needed to be done were all simple.
    Thanks

    Thank you for this. Watched it several times skipping to most interesting parts just to see what it takes to do the job. Helped me to get part numbers and manuals.
    Now I have all I need and watched it again completely. I took a step up and got myself 3 ltr ultrasonic cleaner and some cleaning liquids. This will be fun.
    Thanx again. You did it better than most of DIYers here.

    Great video! It's important to inspect the slow jet emulsion tubes VERY carefully. Not only do they contain an internal, very small, lengthwise jet that is quite prone to plugging, these tubes are also prone to developing lengthwise cracks. I inspected mine with a magnifying glass and all 4 tubes were cracked! The cracks were along the narrow part of the tube, near the end that does not have the "o" ring. I replaced all 4 tubes with new. The engine ran great for a couple of days, and then crappy again. So I disassembled the carbs and one of the brand-new slow jet emulsion tubes had developed a crack. This crack, about 1/4" long, was virtually invisible, even with a magnifying glass. I discovered the crack when I was blowing brake cleaner through the tube and cleaner fluid blew out through the crack in the side of the tube. The engine is now running great. No more problems.

      very easy.
      just undo the adjustment nuts near the brackets. this should create enough slack to remove the cables.

    Thanks great video, it really helped a lot. I have the exact motor and have the same problem but after reassembly I don’t need my choke now to run but I still have to give it 3/4 throttle. I was wondering does the slow jet emulsion tube in the very center have a hole that runs from one end completely through to the other I can only fit a cleaning rod partially through? I did clean all the small jet holes on the outside of the tube. I hope you see this message thank you in advance

  • @mandolunatic
    @mandolunatic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excellent tutorial! I have a question....how did you remove the idle mixture screw? Instructions in manuals don’t make it clear. The screw turns, but is stopped by the offset ‘lug’ hitting the carb body.

    • @mandolunatic
      @mandolunatic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aha! I figured it out! ‘Cap’ simply is pried off ...exposing the screw.

    Does the smaller pilot emulsion tube open down through the middle? If so, mine is plugged pretty solid and a small needle will not go though any opening.

    Love the video Todd... my motor looks exactly the same but is 75hp so I think mine is a BF75A but not sure because all I can find is a serial number on my outboard. I am wondering if the carburetor rebuild kits would be the same as the 90hp models? The only number I can find is BBAL 4600772 AND does not seem to match up with anything on Google. Do you have any advice?

      Thanks a lot for the manual, much appreciated :). I'm ready and set to start the tear down, clean, and reassembly. I cross referenced the gaskets and the carbi seal kits in your vid and it appears they are the same as my engine assembly. Were there any other parts, you ended up replacing, that weren't cataloged in your video? I bought all the gaskets and seal kits. How about fuel line tubes, check valves? Just wanting to be prepared as much as possible to prevent any possible hangups. Thanks again.

    Hello! Do you think it is possible to just remove the bowl from the carb and then take the slow jet out for inspection? So I don't need to take the whole thing apart. Just want to inspect my slow jets. My bf40 is running a bit weird on idle..

    You don't need to ever remove your carbs.
    Run B12 chemtool in your gas at all times, in somewhat more generous dose, that's all it takes, and forget removing and cleaning

      all jets. all tiny holes should be clean and clear. carby cleaner and compressed air should do the trick.

    • @MikeTLive
      @MikeTLive 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Todd Chapman that long tube, slow jet emulsion tube, appears plugged near the end without o-ring. It's been that in 2 of the carbs. Have not started 3rd. I can't find any indication if that's correct or not though. It seems like it's two parts.

    • @MikeTLive
      @MikeTLive 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Found someone else video of a smaller engine, same carb, rebuild showing it's got a hole in it. Does that carburetor manual specify the interior diameter of the hole inside the emulsion tube? Up at where there's a second 1cm pipe expanding its diameter. I think there might be a lip or something inside at that point.

    • @MikeTLive
      @MikeTLive 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3rd carb has a pin hole through the length of the emulsion tube. Need to inspect the first 2 carb again. Ordering new tubes along with the manifold gasket. All other gaskets are still pristine from last shop rebuild.

    • @toddchapman3017
      @toddchapman3017  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MikeTLive your on the right track, always safe to order new parts if they can't be cleaned.
      there is no spec for internal hole on slow jet tube.
      if you soak all parts in carbi cleaner then blast with compressed air it should blast all holes clean and clear.
      a light scrub with a toothbrush will help and a needle or pin for the holes.
      be careful to only clear the holes don't damaged the tubes or holes or make them biggger.
      yes there is a hole at the end with o ring ( remember its called a slow jet emulsion TUBE) a tube has a hole should not be blocked.
      hope this helps, stick with it.
      oh just a note the specs said to when rebuild finished set the idle mixture screw to 2 1/4 turns out.
      however mine was a bit lean and performed much better at 3 turns out.
