Raul Julia was so damn good in this. He took chicken shit and turned it into chicken salad...and he took this role and gave it his all because his kids were huge SF fans. What an absolute legend

I met the actor for Zangief at a horror movie fest two weekends ago, and he was pleasantly surprised to see me bring a Blu Ray copy of Street Fighter, and the two of us as well as my best friend spent a good five minutes making Street Fighter jokes, ending it with a "change the channel" joke. Year. Made.

Well, people were expecting it to be more like the animated movie that was released earlier that year. Ryu and Ken as the protagonists, Guile actually being American, and the plot involving a lot of street fighting like the movie's title suggests instead of trying to copy G.I. Joe. But this was still a much better film adaptation than 20th Century Fox's The Legend of Chun-Li. Raul Julia alone made this movie worthwhile to watch.
@@TallSilentGuy They messed with those characters back story too much, Blanka was supposed to be from the rainforest not the result of an experiment, and Charlie aka Nash was a completely different character in the games with a similar move set to guile (in the alpha series). Dahlsim was supposed to be a fakir of some sort and could breath fire, not a scientist. It felt like they were just giving that doctor his name just for the sake of it.

Plus knowing the reason why he took the role in the first place, I could never trash this movie. Instead, you chose to get up, fight through the weakness, to give one final performance as a parting gift to your children who loved the video game.
They forgot the best line in the movie, or any action movie for matter. “Colonel, have you lost your mind???” Guile says, “No!!! You’ve lost your baaasalls!!!!” If there’s any line that sums up this movie, that’s literally it.

It looks like they were going to make one, but sadly Raul Julia passed away after this film. Given that he hammed up the roll of Commander Bison to perfection, no one could ever equal to such a legendary performance as Julia's Commander Bison in a sequel.
The whole setting in the scene Bison had with Chun Li was pure art..considering his painting..the whole set design looks amazing..and he is such a great game/comicbook villain steryotype you gotta love..and maybe the best line in cinema ofcourse: "but for me it was tuesday" I have just finished a painting after him: title: But for me it was wednesday" wich takes his quote + his appearance in Adams Family and I have made my own impression of wednesday adams also...that was all I could do..oh and I have bought this movie on blu ray...it is a value to my collection of films: so bad itś good...for sure..
Raul Julia's performance in this film is somewhere near Lon "Man Of A Thousand Faces" Chaney meets Marlon Brando at his absolute most strenuous & passionate and I never feel entirely worthy of beholding it.
This movie is so freaking bad, that it is fantastic, no thanks to Van Damme but rather 95% due to the Legendary Raúl Juliá's stellar performance But let us not forget how great of a job some actors such as Zangief's actor and um... The cast was badass: JC vandamme, Raul Julia, wes studl, Kylie minogue, Ken (who was in Blood In Blood Out, forget his name), Chin li actress "The cavalry" 2:07 How could you cut that part? I was getting pumped up lol

All the actors must've known going into the production that this film was going to be a ridiculous POS and as true professionals they gave it 100%. Raul Julia gave an Oscar worthy performance in a critical bomb of a film and he did it while he was terminal with cancer. It's worth enduring the film just to see him be incredible.
I agree. I liked Dhalsim in the movie. The scene where he talks to Guile about Blanka having the capacity for both good and evil and whether it's right to kill him was very good.
They technically were in the movie but they were nothing like in the games... Dhalsim was a scientist that worked for Bison but then half way through the film he goes full Dhalsim mode... No stretchy members though... Blanka was like in the game, a green monster... Strangely enough, he was created in Bison's laboratory... But something weird. His name was Carlos Blanka... I don't know why the movie put the characters like this...

Also, they were planning on have Dhalsim develop stretching powers in the sequel as a result of the exposure to chemicals. Only the sequel wound up being cancelled, unless you count the animated series on USA Network.
Well, I think we all agree that this movie was ruined solely by Van Damme himself, poor Raul Julia, the producers put him on par of one of the worst actors in history.
Horrible. The movie was horrible. Stop kidding yourselves. The only good scene was the end. Because it was over. Or the final pose of all the fighters was ok I guess. But that’s it.

Not enough signature moves being showcased. Too many characters didn't even get into fights, such as Blanka and Dhalsim.
