I honestly was scared for a moment that Ian would get pranked and Pam would appear out of nowhere. Glad I was wrong. Also, props to Shayne, we the fans have not witnessed the real deal but we can still tell it's all very accurate anyway.
He's imitating the real CEO of the company that almost killed Smosh. Dave dilford is not his name in real life but defy is the real companys name. The amount of hatred that all of Smosh has for him is clear as day. Just from how the people ik the background and Ian are, you can tell he's so spot on it genuinely makes them mad.
I love when he called Damien's bluff and made him dance, but Dave Dilford was almost too perfect and on the nose! You could see Ian's flashbacks the second he introduced himself.
For someone who's came up in comedy as a loud performer, Ian is always at his best when he's dry and sour. I loved his work here. Loved how quiet he was, letting his microexpressions do the talking. His wit really shone through, and he's such a terrific foil for basically every other member of the cast. The ability to maintain the same understated chemistry with so many other performers is his absolute strength and I'm so happy to be seeing more of it recently.
I actually have to disagree, strictly speaking about the main channel. When they were under defy they were making sketches with an actual storyline and I remember waiting every week to see what kind of weird adventure they got themselves this time. But now half of the videos are them randomly just standing there and spitting out jokes. No plot. Noting. Sorry but that is not what smosh was made to be. Where are the scenarios, actors, props, characters?
@@HeyItsIvo I can see that they're usually in one place and throw one joke after another and that's it for a video. Notice that smosh work became definitely looser after defy went bankrupt, since everyone needed that... and if these videos appeal to most of the audience, then why change it? Also, they focused more on other channels where you can just improvise, for a reason... it's easier and definitely still entertaining. Also, almost everyone from the smosh squad has 2 jobs or more, so they may not have that much time for richer, harder to make sketches. Characters and props are more used in TNTL now, since it's their most popular series after sketches on main channel. And the last thing, but that's just my assumption; Ian really, really wants to create perfect work atmosphere where you're not forced to do anything as long as you fulfill the task one way or another.

Thats why their sketches are stripped down, and they cut Winter Games as well, not to mention had to gut Smosh Games a ton. Defy gave them a lot of money to do stuff, and based on how that company went bankrupt, its probably not financially feasible long term to invest that much money into stuff that doesn't do well enough to justify that budget.

I still have the "shut up and kiss me already" line from (I think) the magic keyboard video pop up in my brain every now and then. But I still think though that however funny an elephant wearing roller skates doing an interview could potentially be - It has never been the type of thing I would go to the Smosh channel specifically to look for.
