I don't really care what elitists have to say, black metal doesn't all have to be super tr00 grimdark to be awesome. Alcest has really caught my attention recently with their bridge between BM and shoegaze. Truly beautiful and atmospheric stuff here.
Totally, I think Black metal(BLACKGAZE in this case) is the darkest and the most beautiful music at the same time, ruining it with this Shit-attitude is the most PATHETIC thing you can say about it. IMO elitists only listen to shit music. So fuck them, they just don't know what they miss.🤘🏼
Pefect song for painting, trust me. You can exorcise your demons through the brush and music at the same time. I imagine this as a background music for a loud scream in front of the ocean. Why is this life so confusing, why is it so hard to find a way in which you are satisfied of being alive and useful to the rest? Why are feelings trying to destroy what our mental discipline tries to build?
Living at a cabin on Lake Huron really makes memories from experiencing this song so grand. Seeing the moonlight over the water is something else. Been living in Alaska for the past six months, and besides driving down the Turnagain Arm or chilling out on the Kenai River, it doesn't compare. I'm going back to this spot on Lake Huron in a few days, and will for sure be jamming this album from start to finish.
Moon Scales (Part II) Hours fly by, the sea sighs under faraway stars dropped as a trembling pinch of gold on the swell It begins its hypnotic dance, in which my discoloured gaze is engrossed Just as an airborne soul, I would like to disappear without fear under the waves, to hear their bewitched lament spring forth from the depths They'd call me from their kingdom of pearls and sharp marine scales to take me away from my kind, from a world which is foreign to me Holding their hand, slowly, I would like to sink into black waters welcoming me in silence To bid farewell to the glimmers of the morning, to let the cold currents purify my thoughts, petrify my flesh, so I can find sleep at the very bottom of the ocean
It took me some years from the first time I heard this album to perceive this music and now that I managed to it feels amazing. Powerful, brutal and yet magnificent and even elegant. It's a masterpiece.

Such a visceral song, it embodies all that I look for and enjoy in Alcest. The blast beats, the crescendos and lulls, the tempo changes and especially the loud-soft dynamics. Wonderful.
im glad this album incorporates harsh vocals as well, as essential as the cleans are to the calming ethereal atmosphere a little bit of darkness is necessary on a metal album
Holy shit! As a *HUGE* fan of Black Metal...this is really goddamn good. I'd never heard of them before until I saw them on Lock Horns. Didn't even know this genre existed.
Alcest and Agalloch, The forces that allow me wander lost through a majestic forest full of iridescent beauty. My known consciousness replaced by the desire to exist as one should, devoid of socially bred expectations and human constructs, in co-existence with the intrinsic aesthetics of the natural, true world. Alcest now actively carries that flame, however both groups will echo the hallways of eternity.
I'm a big fan of both black metal and shoegaze so when I heard of this thing called blackgaze I instantly left Wikipedia and came here although I don't even speak french. It is a sure thing that this band has its own style and Neige is a very talented musician being able to create such a good mixing of two completely different genres. Nevermind what term people uses to describe what this is, blackgaze sounds cool to me but you can even call it "beautiful music" or "pretty black metal" and it'd still be right.
On Benavente there was indeed a kind of "proto-moshpit" going on. I was like "WTF" looking at that. In other hand, the Oporto's concert was, by Niege himself, one of the best concerts Alcest ever gave. So intimate, so dreamy, and yet full of darkness. Not an evil darkness, but a mystical one. It was one of the most emotionally shows i ever saw.

They should be bigger in the states. they are amazing. Unfortunately I think they are too smart and too emotional and great dynamics for most American audiences. My wife and I saw them in Denver about a year ago and it was so tiny and amazing. They deserve more.
Ay Pulu Saatler uçuyor, deniz; kabarcığın üzerinde titreyen bir tutam altın gibi düşmüş uzak yıldızların altında iç çekiyor. Hipnotize edici dansını başlatıyor, rengi atmış bakışlarımın daldığı. Listened to it after watching Maya Deren's "Divine Horsemen" and "At Land".. I suddenly needed to dance, I started moving to the rythm of music and I could feel the inspiration from Voodoo ritual dances in my own movements and body, and then I entered in a dream-like state, where every step of mine had a precise meaning... Though, in those moments, I only cared about instinctively expressing myself and I succeded. I love every kind of art and I hope I'll be able to make it my job one day. Alcest are very inspiring and this song is beautiful.
I really don’t understand why so many black metal heads are so against this band yes their sound has changed but guess what people grow up and their taste changes and their influences also change…. The ending of this song is one of the greatest achievements in all of metal music.
the idiots will say ITS NOT METAL lol :(
@@Chris_yes Of course this is metal, the guitar distortion and wretched vocals are abrasive.
@@Chris_yes Because they're idiots
Why stop at metal?
Rupe obviously it’s obviously very black metal inspired, Alcest has an album or two that arent metal but this one definitely IS metal.
I love how the song starts so dreamy and melancholic and then...BAM!!!!
Same, it gives such a great feeling to the song
i see this as a metaphor for life. everything is happy than suddenly one thing can happen and life gets hard.
The feeling I got when first hearing this album still sticks with me after the years.
Yes totally, this music will probably never lose its magic for me. A true masterpiece.
same here
Bro I found this today and felt it immedialety. I'm listening to it on repeat for 6 hours now.
I don't really care what elitists have to say, black metal doesn't all have to be super tr00 grimdark to be awesome. Alcest has really caught my attention recently with their bridge between BM and shoegaze. Truly beautiful and atmospheric stuff here.

So true bestie, the "name 3 songs" crowd can pound sand.
4:46 maybe the best arpeggio I've ever listened to in my life
I discovered Alcest too late, but man... I'm glad I did!
Me too, after L'envol ;)
He died so young

I'm asking the same questions, let me know if you found answers...
Perfect song. No more to say !
mental discipline without feelings would make life boring. A good story has feelings in it.
Il faut forcer nos portes obscures afin d'y percevoir la lumière. Perce et tu verras
This gaves me Shin Megami Tensei vibes 😎
this song takes me to another world.
World of astonishing beauty beyond belief
Never listened to Alcest before, but fell in love with this song when I heard it live last night. Spectacular.
Cette chanson... Ces paroles n’emmène tellement loin...

+Jakub Libner I know right, they have a unique style!
The first time I ever listened to Alcest made me the happiest dude on earth.
I dont listen to much metal anymore after 15 years of listening non-stop to it, but I always come back to this beauty! Amazing feels!
This is the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard
3:14 never fails to give me the goosebumps.
That part is the pinacle of atmospheric metal to me. The pervious build up to this climax gets me every time
Same here brother, same here...

Balanceee :D
5:48 it was at this moment you knew, you found an amazing band.
For me it was within the first 10 seconds :) My favorite band of all time after the first 2 minutes!
It still captivates me after ten years. That riff is just perfect.
Whole song has impressed me so much! Both parts and the rest songs!
Amazing! So emotional and full of ambience. Type of music who make you dive deep into your thoughts and feelings. Pure art!
Here ten years after it was released on TH-cam.
We got Neige among us.
What a time to be alive.
The last melody part is so beautiful i can’t explain…. It takes you to a non existential childhood where everything was dreamy
It feels like someone is caressing your being and rocking you to sleep while letting you know that you need not worry about anything.
This song was fucking amazing live, the bass tone is perfection.
Holy shit! As a *HUGE* fan of Black Metal...this is really goddamn good. I'd never heard of them before until I saw them on Lock Horns. Didn't even know this genre existed.
How much I wish to listen to this live.
that first blast beat part is beyond epic
I can feel my spirit vibing to this song
3:12 when the song becomes from amazing to divine!
5:48 but!!
16gordo16 You know the entire song is just wonderful!
16gordo16 5:48 level up👍👍👍
Agreed. What a moment.
all the song is hallucinating!! .. but since the 2:44 every single note blows my mind away!!
Alcest should be doing this kinda music again.
i loved Shelter, but Kodama is closer to the harsher stuff at times. Eclosion is amazing
eclosion is fucking perfect
Yes it is
Eclosion is very good, but nothing since "Les Voyages..." has touched the same realm as Ecailles de Lune
They still (kinda) are.
Incroyablement intense.

I don't usually comment here, but this is a fucking masterpiece! Rock on!
Completely in love with this song.
Musicians across time: How can we find a way to elicit every possible emotion in one song?
Alcest: Yes.

I've always liked this song, with some Bergtatt vibes on the heavy part...
Gran canción, gran álbum♥
hace tiempo que no escuchaba Alcest, qué recuerdos

love the vocals
Yeah I listen to a lot of music and this is the real deal and I hope they keep cutting deeper. It is what it is
Tell me honestly. don't we metalheads try so vast range of arts to express our emotions which is just sometimes impossible to express in words?
Sure, and it doesn't only apply to us !
