The funniest part about this is that a doctor would never spend this much time and care on a pain patient.

There are some people who do seek drugs. However 90% of us chronic pain patients use our meds correctly. I have never run out of my medication or needed an early refill. I have been on different pain medications for 25 years. I took myself off Fentanyl as it was too strong. I am tired of people saying “ You don’t look like you’re in pain”. Many just don’t understand.

Yep, you sound like me. Nobody understands because it’s an invisible disability. Not like a guy in a wheelchair or crutches. I get weird looks by people watching me park in a handicap spot. A few times I told questioners “ if only you knew buddy” and just shuffle away.

For every ‘drug seeker’ there are hundreds of suffering patients who have never misused their MEDICINE. It’s time for this stereotyping to stop, as well as the war on Opiates prescribed by legitimate doctors.

    • @scottcupp8129
      @scottcupp8129 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

Agreed. I am one of the suffering patients. I have been truly blessed with my pain doctor. He is doing other things to alleviate pain to in my back. For instance I just had my nerves burned in the left side between c4 and c5. The other side is going to be done on Wednesday. He still prescribes me my Percocet as a go to when I need them. Scenarios like in this video are very real. It should have " FOR DRUG SEEKERS ONLY" in the disclaimer. Because you're right. All those that suffer legitimately are placed in this category at some point or another. Thankfully I have the best Dr. He is the best for me but may not be for the guy down the street. It is all about being honest with your doctors. When my doctor was doing my procedure this last time, he was playing the soundrack from Guardians of the Galaxy. Way cool doc.

I could NOT agree with you more!
I am one of those people who suffer needlessly because
someone...I don't know if it is the medical field, the government...
or both....are trying to save people who mis-use meds and they
are killing us...people who JUST WANT RELIEF anyway we can
      get it :(
And believe me - I am NOT saying lets not help people...
mis-using drugs - I have had to go thru withdrawals because
I did take my meds to soon :(
Its pretty darn hard to know that in that little pill bottle
is something that will help your pain - but you cannot take
it for another 2-3-5 hours :(
When you are in pain so bad that you actually DREAD
walking to the bathroom 10 steps away...even 20 more
minutes of that level of pain feels like forever :(
I just had to comment on this video...its such a shame
that people who JUST WANT RELIEF...are being labeled
drug seekers - junkies - addicts...
and yes - we ARE all of those things but its not because
we are looking for a recreational high...we just want to
      be able to sit...stand...eat...without hurting!
Can you imagine walking up every morning and
going to bed every night ....knowing you are not
going to feel relief from pain? Imagine going thru
your life with a toothache - headache or that
acute pain you feel when you twist the wrong way...
stub your toe, slam your hand in the car door...
cos thats what a lot of chronic pain patients deal
      with :( And I promise...I am not exaggerating ...
I just felt so bad for this man...I don't know if its
a re-inactment or true video ... but this happens...
cos it has happened to me ... and I have broken
Harrington rods in my back :( You can literally see
there is something wrong in and around my spinal
cord...one of the nerve centers of the body...anyone
with half a brain is going to know...this hurts ...
BUT an intern at Jewish Hospital in Ohio said
she was going to have to label me a drug seeker...
if I asked for my pain meds one more time :( I was
in the hospital, laying flat on my back in a coma for
4-5 weeks when she said this to me ... I had rang
the nurse station 3 times in 4 hours to get my meds...
when the intern came in, I thought she could help
me - I had already missed one dose of pain meds...
but yet - because I told her how I had asked for the
meds three times...she said I was a drug seeker :(
I guess its easier to call me a drug seeker than to
say "oh my ma'am - those nurses are really slacking
off! They should have been with you within an hour!"
I have 2 daughters that are in the nursing field...I know
how hard they work...so I am not normally one to
complain .... but when you have been in chronic pain for
41 years...I think...you have a right to not complain but
      speak up ...
      And I'm gonna ...
even if its the last thing i do :(

Laura Coates boy oh boy... you just don’t know how much you have helped me right this very moment....
Today is a really bad day 😞 and to be honest... I don’t know if it’s that my pain is worse OR if I am just having a day where I am frustrated because I’ve had pain most every day since July 1977....that’s when the wreck happened....
Hmmm...you know what? That’s the first time I’ve ever said that in all these years.... I wish I could say that I feel better now that I said it...but I don’t. 😞
I just wanted to say thank you so very very much honey for taking a moment to reply to me...it REALLY did help me...I was sitting here having a pity party for myself because I feel like I should NOT have to lay here suffering again when there is something to help me 😞 unfortunately it’s opioids...and I was thinking about how I am pretty much out of luck because NO ONE CARES 😔
      And Laura...
      Regrettably...
YOU are a rare bird honey...
GOD-how I wish the medical field could find what
cell, gene, component....is it that you have...that makes
      you genuinely care about...
      a stranger....
another person who is suffering needlessly 😩😟...
Cos I assure you-not everyone has this component in their heart 😒
      Thank you so very much....
I know there is something super special about MOST drs & nurses ....
I totally know some people go into it for the money....
but I also still do believe
      for the majority of those
      in the medical field...
It’s “a calling “ and you are DEFINITELY one of those “called “ 😍
Some people call folks like you....”an angel “ 😇
Thank you for reminding me that SOME people DO care about a person suffering...
But their hands are tied 😔

    • @melovebono
      @melovebono 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Kenneth Simbapuppyeyes yes I just recently tried kratom myself and I tell you...had I not had the kratom.... I would have absolutely definitely ended up in the hospital from pain and WD symptoms....😞
Isn’t it absolutely horrible that I could have died....when only 3-4 blocks away from me was something that could have kept me alive BUT because others mis-use it....my husband’s wife- my sons mother-and my grandsons grandma....may have to die?
Am I insane...or should the medical field...do whatever it takes
      even IF
      for the moment...
to give me some little bit of a quality of life ...until they can figure out what to do for my situation?
      I mean heck....
      For now...
      Put me on whatever....
      Poke me with whatever....
      Make me lay...
      TOTALLY flat
for an hour on a cold hard table....while they stick a THICK needle into my spine and PUSH this cold fluid into my system....cos I’ve had to do that ( it’s called epidural) 😞 31 times....
      But I’m sorry...I’m rambling....
Laura...you just really made me smile and realize that there really are people who do care-their healing hands are just tied 😞
Laura...thank you sweetheart for the work you TRY to do...and please....give your hubby the biggest best kiss and hugs ever...when he finally gets home today....
Tell him thank you for doing the work he does AND ....
For staying with a partner with chronic pain 😞
      Let’s face it Laura....
Unfortunately most people would not stay with people like us....
But thank goodness....we got lucky and we got men who genuinely honor those words “ I do “. 🥰
      BUT
      I’m betting
He got himself one heck of a great woman...so what’s some chronic pain issues when....like our hubbies....they got themselves some pretty darn good women 😻

I was taken off opioids by the policy change within the Veteran's Administration. The Veteran's Administration had kept me on timed-release Morphine for fifteen years. Without it, I am in too much pain to exercise, and I find it difficult to get through my daily activities. The people who took their prescription medications as directed were never the problem. It was the addicts who were the problem.

    • @FitzSchlitz
      @FitzSchlitz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Unfortunately, that's not so cut and dry. I've witnessed people who aren't addicts get addicted and mess their life up... I've witnessed addicts realize that pain meds are like treating a gunshot wound with a very small band-aid. Everything is circumstantial and perceptual. Hard for me to judge since I live in a glass house. Love and blessings to you all!!!

After my injury I went into physiotherapy. I remember the physiotherapist said some patients need pain medication so that they can get to the clinic and do the exercises. In addition often the exercises will aggravate your chronic pain so again pain medication is helpfull. He also said if the injury and pain causes you to get to deconditioned that you could go from using a cane to a walker, from a walker to a wheelchair, from a wheelchair to a bed. So pain medication is important to help keep you active and doing your exercises. I'm sorry veterans are denied the medical care and medication they need. They got no problem giving veterans loads of psychiatric medication for their PTSD and DEPRESSION so why deny them medication for PHYSICAL PAIN.

I've had 14 surgeries after two accidents being hit as a pedestrian and then on my motorcycle. The first pain clinic was actually really good, they did doses that worked, and we also tried and used different therapies to help with back pain especially. I was kicked out after I had surgery and the surgeon called in a low dose I guess to treat the new temporary pain from the surgery. I didn't ask for the meds, I didn't doctor shop, and just because he called it in without really talking to me about it, the clinic accused me of going to multiple doctors and being a drug seeker. Common sense would usually dictate that people don't run out and have major surgery to get some Lortab 5's when they get oxy 30's from the pain clinic. The government and health care have really caused problems for legit patients. It's no wonder street drug use is off the charts.

If you're only 100% addicted, then maybe yes however, people like me who have severe and chronic pain from a moderately severe scoliosis, taking me off medications would kill me. I'm happy to have the medicine that I do have, it's very helpful.

If only this were a real life example of how doctors behave with pain patients. In all my years as a pain patient I've never had any doctor treat me as patiently and kindly as this example. I've been taken off pain meds cold turkey after years of being at the same dosage and doing very well on them with minimal side effects, put back on them again because the next doctor is appalled at how I was treated before. Then that doctor retires and a brand new one says "we've discovered pain meds don't help anybody" and so they take me and all their other hapless patients back off of them to our dismay on account of we are living proof that they do, in fact, help so what is this "we've" discovered" business? Then if you go to another doctor you are drug seeking and a "high risk".Bloody hell, if these doctors can't get their shit together enough to be consistent with what they do and that's all fine and good then I don't know why they think we, the pain patients, can't make a mistake or two along the way. God forbid we have a bad pain day and snap at them, lest we be put in the "bad patient" category and the terrorist watch list for drug seeking dope fiends.

+Meg Kampen It's the DEA that has the doctors scared to prescribe narcotics. It's absolutely ridiculous! The government has way too much control over our lives. They need to let the doctors make the medical decisions, and prescribe what they think is best, whether it's a narcotic or not. The so called, "War On Drugs" isn't working. It's actually making things worse, in my opinion. Drug abusers are gonna get high no matter how much the DEA/Government cracks down on doctors prescribing pain pills. It's just gonna turn a lot of people who are truly seeking pain relief into heroin addicts or they'll be buying pain pills illegally from drug dealers. But, our government knows this. They don't care! We, as citizens our nothing but a big experiment for them. It's just population control, and truth be told the government distributes the most heroin, cocaine, etc out into our communities, especially the more lower socioeconomic communities. Most people call me crazy, but I call them misinformed!

I was scheduled in with a nurse practitioner and she cut me off cold turkey and then lied about it, The old doctor left one more subscription and all I had to do was come in a get it when we called. When we did she took it and said she gave me my last prescription but she didn't. They said they would find out what happened to the 2 missing prescriptions but they never called back and haven't returned any of our phone calls. Thye also prescribed these benzodiaphines to all the pain patients to help them with withdrawal. They just gave it to us the pharmacy when I got my last prescription . It was never discussed with me or anything, Just giving us stuff without knowing why and people who don't need and have already found a doctor could easily sell it. I just know that most doctors treating me for pain and been very cruel and nasty to me.
I know what the government is doing. I knew as soon as I found out I wasn't getting a cost of living decrease on my disability check for 3 years. When I did it was 10 dollars. The same as 25 years ago. My check has been 800 and something for the last 8 years. They just closed down the last pain clinic in Seattle that accepts medicare. Now we have to pay out of pocket and there is a 2 month wait and they don't give you anything on your first visit. They know we can't afford it. Take money from the most vulnerable people in society. That's socialism. Didn't Hitler do that?. Yes! They said there would be death panels and people laughed, We are useless and we are a burden on society so it's time to get rid of us.I don't now what I am going to do. We called an old doctor in Bellevue and he helped me out by writing me 2 prescriptions when he found out what happened to me. My pain is two severe and chronic. I would have to commit suicide if I didn't get help. I am scared. Scared and traumatized by the pain.I can't believe how evil this woman is. What are you going to do? I don't want to be in this country anymore. I never voted for Obama.I am to sick to move or fight.

+Deanna +Meg.. I think you are both right with regards to the DEA. I have lost many friends who are fellow pain patients. Some have committed suicide and some have died from taking heroin. Prescritpion grade pain pills are so expensive on the dark net that most can't afford it so they have to turn to heroin which just rots you out from the inside. I miss them so much. And yes, the DEA knows and they do not care.
I am not so sure about doctors. I've noticed the new ones are being taught on the educational end that pain medications don't work so they see no reason to prescribe them. I think that many don't care but I also think many do care but believe what they are told and taught not to trust their patients word for how effective they are because we're "drug seeking".
Have either of you tried Kratom? It's okay and might be able to help you get through this until you can find a good doctor. The DEA tried to make it a schedule 1 controlled substance on September 31 but backed down when thousands of pain patients contacted their local reps about how they use it for pain relief.
It's an herb and it is the most powerful pain reliever I have found otc. It's not as good as a prescription but it's not as weak as all the other herbs out there. It packs a punch and is reasonably priced. Currently it is still something almost anyone can get on the internet. It's illegal in two or three states but if you aren't in those states, it may be worth a try. Check out my channel here or pm me for more info if you are curious :)

She is taking all her patients and putting them on it saying that California won't let us have our prescriptions! I could care less about getting a high. I want to stay away from pain period! Juice def is not going to take pain away. I cleanse myself and not take them for days and then go back on them. Without the meds the pain is so bad that suicide crosses your mind. I'm tired of pain patients being treated like a drug addicts. We're not! If I have to live with no relief i won't be living! I have tried tons of non opiod meds and they don't work and physical therapy doesn't work. Damage is not reversible so then what. Pain patients need to get together and protest!

Anthony you're lucky. Most pain management docs do treat you with suspicion as soon as you walk through the door. They assess your pain, and then refer you to about 3 other doctors to do the same. They send you to get an mri, then they send you to a neurologist then they give you another appointment with them. It can only be the doctors they're in partnership with, and if you miss any of the appointments they set for you they stop helping you. If you refuse something in their treatment they stop helping you. They will give you drugs at first, but they start treating you with suspicion based on a drug they gave you in the first place. Then they stop giving them to you all together

This video makes me cringe, it's every pain patients worst nightmare come true. Too many of us have been treated this way by doctors who haven't got a damned clue what they are talking about. Too many doctors see drug seeking or addictive behavior in every patient who wants opioids. Besides, it's best to deny opioids to pain patients, for our own good, right? Except it causes brain damage. All for our own good. That's why pain patients have sleep problems, why we can't focus or decide or remember, we are too exhausted from fighting the pain. Our brains are on full pain alert 24/7 and our nerves get rewired from all the pounding pain signals our broken bodies are sending. The studies showing morphine "doesn't help" only concerns some patients who reacted that way, not all people who take opioids experience this. This has been used as a "feel good" excuse for doctors who know, deep down, that they should manage pain and not allow people to suffer despite the political climate. It's bull shit, but they keep saying it, like that will eventually make it true. We get to suffer for something other people, drug abusers, did. It's not fair or for our own good.

They couldn't even get an ambulance down to him due to the soft sand. They had to back board him about a half mile in excruciating pain. He lost his bowels and bladder too. As a CPP myself, if I sat my happy ass in the exam room and the doctor told me that he found out that I'd been "doctor shopping" and prescribed more pain meds, I wouldn't have a pain management doctor any more. Further more, if I also sat there repeatedly saying how I needed something stronger, the way this guy did, I'd be cut off immediately as well! This patient is a "drug seeker".. the very kind who makes legitimate patients like myself and thousands of others look bad. Without going into horrid detail, I have a connective tissue disorder and chiari malformation (you know, that condition where your cerebellum falls out of your skull into your spinal canal), and now my pain management team is force tapering me from my opioid pain meds. Here's the kicker though... IF the lower amount of doses stop working, they'll put me on a higher opioid pain meds than what I'm on!🤦‍♀️So, cut me off of something that works, I'm not addicted, and I'm mostly functional(even though I'm still disabled), just to FORCE me to take something that will make me non-functional, and potentially not work as well. THIS is what happens when government controls what our doctors do.

Doctor: “So you’re in a lot of pain because the pain medication that I have been giving you was never strong enough to begin with? Okay…But now that I’ve got you addicted to the pain meds, I’m going to stop them altogether. But I don’t want you to think of it as ‘Cold Turkey’, because I’m gonna (insert air quotes) prescribe joining a support group and start practicing meditation.”
Patient: “I’m 65 years old. I’ve served my country. I have lead an honest life. I’ve worked hard my entire life. Along the way I’ve sustained some serious, debilitating injuries. And now I’m in constant pain. In fact, I’m in more pain now than when I first started seeing you. And you asked me to rate my pain, which just sitting here is at an 8 out of 10. But ya know doc…I think talking to a bunch of strangers in a musty old church basement, sharing cookies and coffee, is just what the doctor ordered…pardon the pun. And then when I get home, I’ll light some incense, turn the lights down low and do some Hari Krishna chants. Hell, I’ll be good as new in no time. Thanks doc; you just changed my life!”
Patient’s Spouse: Arrives home and smells something strange in the air. “Hmm…That is a familiar smell…but…but why would THAT smell be INSIDE my home?” Suddenly realizing what that smell is, she rushes downstairs and finds her husband of 50 years sprawled out in his recliner with his brains spattered all over the wall. Then, standing with tears streaming down her face, in the gunpowder filled room, she finds a note: “I can’t live with this pain any longer.”
Doctor: “What time is my tee time at the club? Sure am looking forward to going to my lake house this weekend! But wait…gotta write myself a prescription for my back pain before I go. Sure is good to be me! Hell, I don’t even have a back injury….prescribing medication to myself is just one of the perks of being a doctor! And people say doctors act like they are God. Hell, I don’t ACT like I’m God; I AM GOD! Now, where did I put my keys to my Jaguar? Don’t bother calling me this weekend, I’m gonna be busy enjoying life!”
As a cop, I responded to this EXACT call.
Now that I’m retired due to breaking my back on the job, and being in constant pain, I now better understand that man’s dilemma. And to this day, I still see his sad and lonely widow around town. She’s now in her mid 80s, closer to 90. I just shake my head in sorrow and anger when I think of how that “doctor” changed her life forever.

I took less than recommend which i usually try to do so i can wean off. I was afraid to ask for more & so I trusted her judgement. I threw up for a week & discontinued breastfeeding because of it. (Lortabs are safe while nursing by the way) It hurts to walk, or sit because of the downward pull gravity has on my stitches. It’s been 5 weeks. I’ve called & was told to soak in a bath or sitz bath. I tried several times & It made it worse. I made it to the doctor because it was just too much & wondered if i had an infection. She said it was normal & I was told to begin light jogging. No paperwork on how to pain manage with meditation or anything. Just start jogging. :) It is of course too late to prescribe me meds now, but I think in the beginning, it was the wrong call to not prescribe them for my first week home. I came here seeking help on how to manage my pain with other methods so I can take care of my little girl & all I get is the view from the doctors point of view. I’m so angry, I could spit. I am not an addict. Im afraid to doctor shop & wouldn’t dare. I have no drug dealer so how could i even become an addict? I’m tired of being afraid to complain to my doctor & so I go home, just about pass out, throw up & have to miss out on nursing my daughter. I have scoliosis, neck injury's ,lower back injury and hit by a pickup truck. I have learned not to depend on drugs for relief and only take a tylenol or two when it's real bad. I also take vitamins and eat healthy. I stay in bed and hardly move when I know it's getting bad, which can sometimes take 3 days to 3 weeks to heal. Afterwards i'm ok for a while until I have over done myself , then it's back to the bed. I have been doing this for years and will continue to do so , for it is better than surgery or a painful withdrawal , plus I want to feel when I heal. good luck to all those dealing with pain.

I will die. was supposed to already but didn't maybe it'll take 20yrs, hope not. if when you don't heal aren't going to and what you are going to feel is pain well that is your only choice unless you have pain management w/ the cuts wthdrls etc what is better. a few good day or hours a day or none

I know what a lot are doing . try not to. be grateful for the help you get for now, if you add to the prob you get thrown off. the state tells what to give and it's not enough, pain management is hard today.. still some help ok. have no answers. some docs in calif. etc are learning about pain and educating but few can afford or get the txs yet he talks about.for pain and for detox w/ out bad w/drawl if you get in trouble. other docs won't advocate or stand up. don't want dea knocking on their door before the good ones really get the word out. the txs available to others than the few rich or poor that were there for research.

Wow this shit makes me so scared to get old and have some chronic pain issue only to be treated like a junkie.... • @s.c.7362
      @s.c.7362 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

It's actually true. Opioids, like any foreign substance in the body, are toxins and toxins cause enhanced glial cell activity. Glia are the most abundant cell in the body. When the glia are excited by the presence of toxins, they release substances that increase neuronal excitability, leading to pain enhancement, including an array of proinflammatory cytokines which, in turn, trigger an increase in the activity of pain-signaling neurotransmitters. Further, from my reading, the introduction of opioids activates a protein in the body called TLR4, which, in turn, also signals the production of inflammatory cytokines.
There's a very elaborate, complex system of chain reactions that takes place in the body that leads to enhanced rebound pain during and (for ~3 weeks) after the cessation of opioid therapy (the ~3 week estimate was based on a rat study and was personally experienced by me). So, yeah, opioid-induced hyperalgesia is very real.
Still, opioids have their place in pain management and many patients live productive, active lives for decades on steady, never increased doses of opioid medication. Others do need increases over the years, some due to genetic anomalies, others due to the natural process of tolerance (which glia are also involved with), but they never get addicted and they get pain relief and they lead normal, productive lives.
So I am pro-opioid. These drugs are a necessity for adequate, effective, humane pain management.

Too many physicians like this. Refuse to move to interventional medicine yet they’ll feed you this crap that no pills are better. My choice between addiction and chronic pain, is addiction 100%. The fact that you have people who only understand the literature behind this, making decisions, is part of the problem. Physicians in North America need to start thinking outside the box. I’ve seen too many physicians that just want to go through the motions and that’s it. A lot of people don’t realize there’s a whole realm of interventional options that are far superior to pills, and don’t come with the risks.

These are actors! This is an educational video! Yes it appears he's doctor shopping and the doctor thinks so too and abusing his drugs and trying to do what is best for him. His pain level is only a 9 without pain meds and mine is 20+. The doctor is so so nice and reasonable, but in real life they treat you like shit and accuse you of dealing and or being an addicted and cut you off cold turkey like what was done to me. I had to call my old doctor and he gave me a months supply of tramadol. I will be out in 2 weeks. I don't think he will do it again because he is not a pain doctor and I am poor and can't pay out of my pocket and there is a 2 month wait at one stupid pain clinic. You are lucky that your pain was just a eight and that it helped you, but I was given no options.I was sent a letter telling me my doc had retired. I made an app. The nurse practitioner cut me off cold turkey and never called back with the pain doc referral that accepts my insurance. She also told me in the long run pain meds don't work at all and get alternative treatments and pay out of pocket.

    • @NormalN-wk2th
      @NormalN-wk2th 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Meg Kampen the pain scale doesn't go over 10 therefore if you think of the worse pain possible you are a 10. I have been at a 10. When I broke my back and my whole vertebrae crushed and I went into shock because the pain was so bad. I've had chronic pain for years now so you don't need to lecture me about doctors. If I get treated in anyway disrespectful I change doctors.
I would be saving for a pain doctor quick smart. If your pain was at a ten tramadol would do nothing. I've been on 110mg of morphine and oxycodone for breakthrough pain and some days my pain was at an 8. Now I'm on Suboxone for chronic pain (in Australia) my pain has halved. They won't put you on it tho if you haven't been on long term opiods that are not giving you much relief and also on a high dose for your pain. I guess your probably in American?

    • @MegKampen
      @MegKampen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Lia Greene I am not just on Tramadol I wish..That doesn't do anything on it's own. I don't care what the pain scale says. What happened to you in the accident was beyond a 10.We have a 10+ scale and beyond in America. I'm sure they didn't just give you Suboxone when you first had that accident. That isn't what we are talking about. We are talking about what is happening know. Let me rephrase everything. I wish I was in that actor's position with a pain level as low as his and a kind doctor willing to work with him and he refuses even after doctor shopping which would get anyone else thrown out on their ear.. I wish I could find a doctor like that in WA.There is a 10+ and I am beyond that. Without pain medication I am screaming at the top of my lungs 24/7 in bed week after week.I have been suffering from PTS for years now because of it My pain started as a nine. I wish I was a nine. I know what a nine feels like and I know what it feels like when it feels like someone is sticking a knife in your chest and twisting it twisting it back and forth and disemboweling me every second of the day, electrocuting me and not sleeping for 3 solid days. I have been on daily morphine injections combined with other meds but they won't give it to me in WA State I have a 2 week supply left of my meds, tramadol being only one pf them. If I don't get some help, what choices do I have? Yes! It's that bad. I am glad things are working for you. You are one of the lucky ones. Your pain is now managed so please don't act like everyone else and tell me I don't hurt as much as I think I do. You can ask my roommate. He has seen me suffer. He has seen me denied as he took me from on ER to the next.. Please have some empathy for those who are not as lucky as you. This is America not Australia. They are cutting most if not all pain patients. All pain clinics will be discontinuing opiates for long teem use I wish I had the option of walking out of a pain specialist's office after being treated like shit but I am at their mercy and we don't have many left in this state. They are being closed down and heroin dealers are seeking out pain patients while heroin deaths rise.. Just watch the suicides rise in this God forsaken Country. I was referring to the video being fake. The doctors are not that nice especially to someone who has been doctor shopping. It is a propaganda video. Remember, everyone is different. Pain is different. What works for one person may not work for another. I don't even know what you are using Suboxone for. They wouldn't give it to anyone here but only temporarily for withdrawal of opiates and since they now consider Tramadol an opiate I guess I qualify, but only temporarily. Are you pain med free now since this drug is meant for withdrawal? I wasn't giving you lecture. I was basically telling you the video is bullshiit. I don't know why you took it personally. This is a witch hunt. You should thank God you live in Australia You should watch some of these other real videos on you-tube and see the suffering that is happening in this country and the deaths from being denied pain medication.

I’m dealing with spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease from T2 vertebrae down to my tailbone. My pain management doctor is determined to get me off 5/325 hydrocodone. Prior to that, I was on the fentanyl patch and I weaned myself off of those! I have tried physical therapy and yoga and even meditation, but I am basically bedbound from the pain. I do get an epidural injection once a month but with so much damage and pain all up my spine, the injection (my insurance will only pay for ONE each month), there is no way to control my pain. I get a lumbar injection and the next month, a thoracic injection, so we’re pretty much just chasing the dragon... my doc is stubborn about the TINY 5/325 hydrocodone dose and is about to stop giving me any painkillers. For the record, I only take the hydrocodone when I need it, not every three hours like the prescription reads. Doctors know NOTHING about living with this kind of pain! 🤬

If anybody's doctor does this to them and could be this cold hearted and calloused about their pain complaints, if they drop you the first thing you need to do is go to the State Licensing Board and file a formal complaint for neglecting your medical care. You need to file a formal complaint against a doctor who would take away pain medication from someone who has a legitimate medical condition. After that, start writing your senators and governors regarding doctors neglecting patients comma and use that doctor's name specifically. If your doctor is on one of those top 100 lists, find where you can write to get him/her off of it. Doctors like this should not have the right to practice.

    Here’s a true story...dec 2018
I was air-cared from one hospital to another because I had 4 back to back seizures.
And didn’t wake up in between them
After being in ICU for 5-6 days and then out of it (totally unaware) another 4-5 days in a normal room... I had been intubated
    catheterized
    feeding tube and
    of course a IV...
    When I finally came to...
my back hurt so bad... I
    rang for pain meds...
Within 60-90 minutes I rang the nurse buzzer twice...
    and I never received medication...
A dr and a resident or intern was with him. I said “can you please ask my nurse for pain medication?”
The intern/resident said “Ma’am if you ask for pain medication again we are going to label you a drug seeker in your chart!”
    AND she was rude!
She literally raised her voice to me.
I started to sob but thank goodness my almost perfect husband was there - he saw how the dr looked at her...
and the actual doctor apologized ... within 10 minutes I had pain meds.
I have broken Harrington rods in my back BUT
I would think even someone with perfect health...if they laid in one of those God awful hospital beds for 10 plus days...their back would be sore to...
You sure can tell the people who are in the medical field because it’s truly a calling and the ones who are there for the money 😞
Perhaps medical school needs to add a SEMESTER (not just a class) on compassion...
I don’t know...I’m not in the medical field so maybe I just don’t have a clue...but how about rather than treating everyone like a drug seeker...you treat EVERYONE with compassion and
    just run that risk ...
    take a chance ...
    of being decent to the
    “drug seeker?” In case
    they are not...
ESPECIALLY when the patient has been in ICU and the hospital for two weeks?!?!?
What did they think I was going to do...have a pain medication and party down by making the top of the hospital bed go up and down super fast?!?!
    Grrrr I’m sorry...
    that’s not even funny...
I’m just really getting upset with this “ASSuming” every one who says
    pain is abusing medication...

This is a totally scripted propaganda video, but if that patient were real- yeah, he just needs a stronger dose or a different medication. This is medicine folks, not some dumbed down, hyperbolic and insipid article off the internet. For decades patients doses have been titrated to the level that works for the patient. Actual pain patients that wind up with OUD are far less than 1% of all patients. This is FACT. We are not young people getting high. Throwing the two illnesses together was done to make others money. Everything that has come out of Andrew “ dr. Mengele” Kolodny has been done to enrich himself. The statements he makes about chronic pain patients are so insulting and factually wrong yet the government thinks he can help them win that money grab. These constitutional and human rights abuses cannot continue as they have already killed thousands with their greed.

Let me put my situation out here. I am a pastor and a pain patient. My GP and I had a terrific relationship! I was randomly drug screened and passed every one. No issue.
    Then....
I go to her for my monthly follow up. She tells me she is getting rid of all of her GP patients and will only focus on weight loss and HRT.
    Terrific!
I have been on the same dosage for years. It works and I can function very well! I ended up finding a new doctor who told me he would not write for pain meds. He leveled with me and told me that every patient my old GP sent him was on some sort of narcotic! Every. Single. One! Whoa!
She was terrified of losing her license! She put me through hell and without so much as a kiss my butt. Sorry. She let me down.
By the way my new GP told me that based upon my openness and honesty he decided he would write for my pain meds. It is a little less frequent but I can manage. Oh yeah. Here is a short list of why I am in pain.

*cancer surgery in my neck in 2000. This left a great deal of damage.
*spinal stenosis of my C3,4,& 5. 95% closed.

These comments are ridiculous. As a soon to be doctor, I found this video helpful. 99+% of the time with such situations, the patients in these situations are there for true pain. But that doesn't mean it's clear cut, black and white. Here is something important to note: The medical field sucks at managing pain because we don't have it figured out! But we're trying our best. People do get addicted to these drugs and it's a sad deal. I really don't understand why this video is so upsetting. I'm sure there are bad docs out there, don't get me wrong, but this video is meant to train docs how to change approach with pain management. I am not here to say that pain should be taken lightly. Just that there are situations where knowing how to converse, like the physician does in this video, may save lives.

I hope you managed to become a doctor, this sounds like you gave actual thought to this.
As a patient with severe chronic pain from a rare condition that took a long time to diagnose correctly, I have had maybe 10% of my doctors even try to be this compassionate, BUT also, with doctors being increasingly fearful because of the DEA and general crackdown, there are conversations like this happening frequently when they are truly not the appropriate course of action. Years ago, I had to leave my Neuro PhD and move back home because I couldn’t get adequate pain treatment. The more I tried to explain the severity of the pain and that I sought help, the more closed out of treatment I became. These things permanently mentally traumatize patients in addition to the pain they’re suffering. It’s hard to feel charitable or understanding towards the healthcare community when you have been either ignored or victimized or demonized by it over and over.
This may be a difficult career conversation for the physician, but this is the patients whole life wrapped up in this interaction. Either they do have a use disorder and need more active help and instead just lost the link to their physician and also like to the med stabilizing them temporarily from turning to less safe alternatives, or they are being physically tortured by their body and are dealing with that and now bot only aren’t getting the increased management needed, but now have none. This increases risk for suicide, turning to illicit drugs, mental health crises, unstable financial situations because of loss of work, divorce and/or loss of child care ability/rights.
It seems callous to say the physician JUST (at the worst) has their license under fire, and that does impact their economic stability of course, but at the end of the day, comparatively, the patient is magnitudes more vulnerable in these scenarios and they’re reasonably going to lash out accordingly.

The doctor should have confronted him about the "doctor shopping" and ask plain and simple for him to honestly answer if he does that because he feels he is not adequately dosed (which is obviously the case, unless he is selling the pills). Then the doctor should suggest to increase the dosage or switch to a stronger opiate and make sure in return that he has to stop going to other doctors. 10mg of lortab like 3-4 times a day is very low, so no wonder he has to go to several doctors to get a fair dose.

He is a wholly at risk of full-blown addiction and all its ravaging effects. This Dr handled this perfectly, perfectly. If I was the Dr, I would have pointed out that any new Dr was going to want to consult with him as to his previous treatment and that quite likely, after doing so, would not be willing to write him pain prescriptions either, especially for even stronger meds. This guy has already come under scrutiny of the System, and Databases and his pill seeking behavior is likely over and done. I am in Recovery and have been on the same meds and same dosages for many years. Neither I, nor my Dr would even consider increasing my level of pain meds as to strength or frequency of administration. Either would be a Red Flag for me and my Dr.

When I was living in Hong Kong I suffered osteonecrosis of both hips which meant the bone died and shattered into a million pieces. Consequently, my hip dislocated and swung out to the left and started withering. Eventually, I had a hip replacement but whilst waiting for this operation, my doctor was SO worried about the potential addiction of opiate drugs, he didn't prescribe any. Instead they gave me Tramadol, a synthetic opioid type drug that was utterly useless. On a scale from one to ten, i would say my pain was a nine and stayed that way until they blissfully replaced my hip four months later, which was pretty quick compared to a lot of health systems. I would have killed for something to relieve my pain. I even considered trying to buy heroin or ketamine for relief but didn't know anyone to buy the drugs. The funny thing is, as soon as I came back to Australia, my doctor put me on methadone whilst I await another hip replacement.

Most pain mgt. doctors have never experienced chronic pain so they don't know what we go through. I have had 4 back operations and have to go for a fifth because the screws keep loosening up. This doctor is just like the rest, refusing to prescribe the proper opioids dosage for the patient. Since the government cracked down because some doctors were pill factories it hurts the thousands of us with severe chronic pain. If you're in pain management and complain the treatment isn't working they get rid of you and trying to get into another pain management clinic is hard and sometimes takes months if they are taking new patients. I found out the hard way by asking my last 2 doctors if they ever had chronic pain and they instantly got an attitude. I think that was a reasonable question because reading about pain does not mean you understand what living with it is like. There are a lot of medicines that would work if they would only try them.

Such a shame that doctors cannot prescribe painkillers as freely as before. For one, those in pain, especially chronic pain, have to suffer or jump through a bunch of hoops to get their medication regimen, which likely isn’t enough. And also largely because people that took them illegally for recreational purposes remain dependent and...
Walaahhh now they can’t get opioids and it stops abuse, right!? Wrong. Now they oftentimes must take whatever opioid is available; IE: heroin, /street opiates or pills, possibly from overseas, or likely counterfeit pills with god knows what (fentanyl)
And no, these will never go away no matter how many people get jailed.
So now grandma betreace is in a lot more pain because the doctor cut her morphine and put her on Vicodin. And you got joe blow your neighbor who’s suffering and misses work because doctors won’t give him the Percocet he needs to function and reduce his back pain. So he now snorts heroin out of desperation, which costs him a ton of money and reduces his family’s quality of life.
And you got Jackie, who is a full time student in medical school residency, who takes Vicodin for fun on the side, who can not obtain it so she tries some stamped pill made overseas. It looks similar but is an obvious counterfeit. Well she overdosed and almost dies because it had too much fentanyl cut.
Fighting the “war on opioids” by cutting pain medication is a success!? I think not! It’s harmful to do so in reality.

I don't know his medical condition but I have been on Norco 10/325 for eight years and have got the insurance co, to cover epidural and I have almost no pain .
I have detox myself off the pills now for over three weeks ago and I'll tell you it was not easy but when you put your mind to do this and trust the good Lord to help you well all things are possible.
I am clean and off the pills life is getting better.

You are lucky! An epidural didn't help me. So if I put my mind to it the epidural will help me or I can ween myself off my pain meds and I won't need them anyone more?. I already did that and it was a piece of cake because I am not addicted. Then the pain got worse and worse and It just reminded me of why I started taking them to begin with.

If this is not reality, it depicts a Dr visit pretty realistically for someone that is trying to get stronger meds.
I tried to get something stronger or increase after being on Norco for about 10 years, and my pain management Dr. said he wasn’t comfortable with that, but instead added a 12 hr pain medication 2x daily called Belbuca film. He said this along with my current Norcos should help keep the pain relief lasting longer. Belbuca’s retail for my prescribed dosage strength is around $800 monthly! Luckily with insurance it was cut back to $162.00, then added a coupon savings card from the manufacturer to reduce the cost further to about $60. Hopefully Belbuca with the Norcos daily will help to give me around-the-clock pain management?
We’ll see how it goes 🙏
Thank God my pain Dr. believes what I told him, which WAS the truth. I would have been scared to death if he would have taken my Norco away and left me cold turkey, dear Lord!

    • @repairfreak
      @repairfreak ปีที่แล้ว

@Walter B Mainly true, but it in itself is listed as a strong time release opioid used for around the clock pain management. But by itself and at correct dosage with its high infinity to bind tightly with the mu receptors, it will displace full agonists such as hydrocodone, oxycodone, and others preventing their binding, thus making them less effective, and/or reduce the craving for and/or withdrawal of over time.
I found by itself alone it’s not very effective at pain relief when compared to full agonists such as Hydrocodone or Oxycodone. In my opinion some of the pain relief buprenorphine actually provides is more mental than physical, by doing so by providing the reduction of the anxiety/stress & withdrawal associated with the full on agonist pain relief type drugs.

I have been to 4 different pain clinics. Two were wonderful and two were not good. I now have a wonderful primary care doctor. What he gives me is Tramadol 50mg four times a day and Lyrical 50mg at bedtime and this is doing a wonderful job. I previously had been on Oxycodone 10mg three times a day and it started to not work and I would take extra doses and I would run out and then be out and I would go through detox and this was terrible. I think this doctor is doing the right thing because of him going to three doctors.

Doctor patronizing this patient is typical. This is outrageous. If the guy needs pain meds, give him as much as he needs to be comfortable and productive.
Detox??, Support group for chronic pain, AYSM
My wife, dying of breast cancer was turned away from the pharmacy for trying to fill her oxycodone script one day early. She would occasionally drop the small pills because of the numbness in her fingers from the chemo treatment. At least once a couple of pills wound up lost to the sink drain.
I'm wondering what on earth is driving this attitude against pain relieving analgesics that are opiod receptor agonists. Could it be that they are so inexpensive to produce and most of the patents are expired, big pharma cant make enough money on them. Or is it so that by not prescribing them and driving chronic pain patients to obtain scheduled medicines without a "valid prescription" puts the patient at risk of criminal sanctions, including asset forfeiture. Or is the government trying to tag people with chronic health problems ( the unproductive members of society ) for eventual elimination.
When you hear politicians and other talking heads on this issue, they always cite unrealistic numbers of 'lives that will be saved" or "numbers of abusers" that seem to me to be very inflated. How many people do you know that are abusers of opiod analgesics? probably not even one. That is unless you count people like the patient in the video, who if you worked beside him when he was pain free because of the proper use of his medicines, would seem completely normal.
Anyone got any ideas why this crackdown on chronic pain patients.

How can the average guy talk with a trained doctor, the doctor will will every time. This doctor didn't give the guy a fair shot. I did not see him review the man's x-rays and other films to look once again at the problem. Also I have sat in many offices and heard the same line. Finally I got to a pain specialist with all kinds of credintials that reviews all my information and filled out a pain score finally giving me the correct medicine

  • @rogerrabbitt5295

Prescription monitoring programs are there to stop people taking more drugs than what is healthy for them. Random urine or blood taking is a requirement to prove to the doctor you are not taking other drugs, but also it can show if you are metabolising the drug quicker than most people. For example, a good doctor would have a blood sample taken before you are due your morning dose (of sustained release opiate), then you take your dose, then 5 hours later they take another blood sample. I have been in one situation where I was absorbing Morphine sustained release so quickly during the day I was experiencing light withdrawal symptoms 2-3 hours before my next dose was due, so I had to stay at a clinic all day whilst they took hourly bloods so the doctor could see the rise and fall of the levels of morphine in my system.
Videos like this do 2 things 1) they give doctors something to show their patients (who in turn feel betrayed and like they are being treated like a child) and 2) mislead the doctor into thinking anyone who see more than one doctor for medication MUST be a junkie.... however lets argue that this Gentleman might well be getting more medication because he metabolises it quicker than the average person, or hes in so much pain that the doctors best intentions just werent working.
What doctors should do is do what one did to me - put him into hospital and give the nurses instructions to allow him to have 10mg or Ordine (liquid morphine) every hour if he wants.... then monitor for 3 days... luckily for me I was in so much pain I saw that nurse every hour for those 3 days and only got about 3 hours of sleep, we worked out quickly just how much pain I was in, and we worked out mutliple ways to tackle it - 1 of that still includes opiates... (I really think the doctor thought I'd be fast asleep after the 6th hour...lol) - so there are ways to handle people in pain, just using time and dignity, and using that ace up their sleeve (admit them to a hospital and bombard them with opiates).
Unfortunately America has a crappy health system, and what helped me immensly would nt have happened over there, and like many people I would have turned to heroin long ago to battle my pain....

I must have missed the part where the doctor told the chronic pain patient WHY the current pain meds weren’t safe for him. He mentioned that if the patient takes a higher dose of the same meds he just “might not wake up one day”.
Perhaps the people that produced this video should have approached it using the average chronic pain patient. The average patient takes the meds as prescribed, sticks to the terms of the pain contract and doesn’t doctor shop or call for refills using falsehoods such as claiming their meds were stolen or lost.
Perhaps the camera should capture the life of the average chronic pain patient, taking the meds and being at least functional enough to hold a job or care for their children.
There are chronic pain patients and there are drug abusers. Promoting the viewpoint that chronic pain patients are all drug abusers is just plain wrong, and in many cases harmful.
Stop putting the blame on the people that are using opioids from necessity and not for fun or profit or whatever.

I am so thankful that I took my Drs advice and had a Pain Pump implant. It wires directly in your spine so you receive a continuous dose of Morphine. It takes a small fraction of the drug to relieve pain. I went from taking high doses to now only needing a very small amount. It was the best decision I've ever made and can now begin to enjoy life again and be more active since my hell began in 2001.

    • @iKazed
      @iKazed 4 ปีที่แล้ว

If you transitioned your intrathecal dose back into an oral dose, it'd be higher. Intrathecal only needs a fraction of the dose because it doesn't need to go through first pass metabolism first, not because delivering it to the spine is some magic route of administration. The implant is rarely indicated. You can't just ask for it.

unfortunately this happens all too often. And for the people that really are in chronic pain that cannot be relieved with exercise or PT are all lumped into the category of drug seekers. Some of these people are selling their meds, too. I see ppl daily that are on so many drugs they can barely walk from being drugged, and they are complaining about the pain being so bad. Catch 22. I was once on at least 4 different drugs, and when I got off all of them, my pain was not really any worse. So for ME, I think the drugs were making things worse.
