At the moment I'm using Sony MDr-750s (which are a bit on the bright side). I know them so I can work with them. i'd always suggest to at some point invest in decent monitoring so that you'll know which synth sounds the way it does and make a mental note. Much like players on a field, you need to master the craft of foreseeing where the game is headed so you can plays your players accordingly!

I know Behringer's business model is becoming controversial, but I do LOVE the Model D. Affordable and sounds great!

did you ever try mapping a footpedal to stat stop, i've used the fcb1010 and found it works great when auditioning on the midi keyboard.
