      It was pretty funny to MAKE the list... and then go for it with the comments!

    Very cute ending a la Star Wars. I love many of the tunes you picked. Joe Cooley's followed by Wise Maid is a lot of fun.

      Haha! Yes, it was fun and funny to put this together, Jim. And Cooley's + Wise Maid is such a classic.

    Somewhere near the top of my list is Swallow's Tail Reel. But then, I was introduced to Irish music by the Dubliners. Barney was such a master on the banjo.

      Good one. Yep, that is another classic. So was Barney McKenna, for sure.

    This is waaaay advanced for me but I enjoy listening in and you totally increase my vocabulary!!!

    • @ShannonHeatonMusic

      Well, the listening part is the hardest. So if you are just hearing stuff and paying attention, you're doing most of the work. Glad you could stop by, and thanks for the nice note.

    I was taught Kid on the Mountain as a six part tune (which is also how it's annotated in O'Neill's 1001)

    • @ShannonHeatonMusic
      @ShannonHeatonMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good, Steve. Thanks for that. We don't typically do that last part.

    Great video, Heatons! Good fun to see how fast one can spot the tune (if at all). This one deserves sequels, so I'll throw in five favorites of mine, of different types: Mist-Covered mountain (jig), Farewell to Whalley Range (slip), Palm Sunday (slide), Dark Island (waltz), Lads of Laois (reel)

    • @ShannonHeatonMusic
      @ShannonHeatonMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good! Hope you were quick with identifying the tunes.. And those are great ones there. Especially Dark Island. Le best.

    What a great list . Those e minor tunes are just Gawjus. Perhaps a couple of favourites of mine might be Battle of Waterloo, Brenda Stubberts , and Eileen Oge ( Pride of Petravore ) and last but not least Athol Highlanders . I’m going to play that vid again 😀🥰

    Hi Shannon and Matt,
    I saw your top 10 video yesterday but had to run out afterwards. Excellent presentation!
    How about
    A: Top 10 flute friendly tunes
    B: Top ten "most beautiful" Irish dance tunes.
    C. Top ten dance tunes composed in the last 50 years
    You and Matt must agree on list B and C.. An exercise in marital harmony!

    Agree with every tune, but let me add, in no particular order:
    Rights of Man
    Road to Lisdoonvarna
    Farewell to Ireland
    Lark In The Morning
    The Musical Priest
    Dennis Murphy's Polka
    Sean Ryan's Polka
    Swallow Tail Jig
    Merrily Kiss The Quaker
    Drowsy Maggie
    Every session
    goer knows these.
    Honorable mention goes to a tough tune, namely The Bucks of Oranmore.

      GREAT additions here! There are so many others. And we'd all probably give different lists on different days. But I really think you've got your finger on your hit parades here.
