    I've made a switch to steel since I have started to have a reaction on my hands to Nickel. The steel (as you said) felt lot rougher. I didn't like the feel at all, so I ran them through some super fine sand paper and cleaned them with some lubricant and now they fell great.

      I only use steel now because of the reaction on my hands!! I’ve gotten used to the roughness now, so it doesn’t bother me as much. But that is a good solution for making them a little smoother!

    the steel strings are definetly brighter and they punch a bit more, especially in the clean/crunch tone. it's not the biggest difference, but u can hear it in the overdrive (of the clean [!] tone). for that riff i like the steel more.. but for other stuff u can defintely go with nickel if u want the warmer tone.
    thanks for ur comparison!

      No problem! I definitely prefer the sound of stainless, but maybe that’s because I have such a horrible nickel allergy that I have no choice but to use steel. 😂

    Word of warning: avoid SS strings unless your guitar has SS frets. If you do much bending or vibrato at all, SS strings will wear down nickel frets twice as fast as nickel strings will. However, if you've just had a level, crown and polish done on your nickel frets, putting a set of SS strings on for a couple weeks will put a super fine polish on them, but best to go with nickel after that.

    I would like to have heard the stainless steel used with your bridge pickup with clean tones.

    Thx you for that video, I was wondering if there is some difference, especially I play very clean (roland JC amplifier) with lot of reverb and modulation effect 😊 oh a part of what you played seemd to be inspired by Empire Song of Killing Joke 😊

    Thaink you so ,much for this - My own comparison was not with new strings but months old - the behavior when using the tuner in Logic Pro X - steel's tone was much easier - quicker and with less variance than the nickel. Maybe that's why people say it "cuts through the mix" better than nickel.

      Steel has a truer tone when compared to nickel using a tuner like in Logic Pro X. What I want is a constant pitch when playing legato passages.

      That’s why they make so many different kinds of strings for all kinds of players :)

    Steel is harder on frets. One reason for me to use nickel or nickel plated.

    I’m badly allergic to nickel so stainless steel could be a good option for me. I’m also looking into Ernie Ball’s cobalt and M-Steel strings, though I really hope that I am not allergic to cobalt as well. (No way to test that out unfortunately.)

      The cobalts add a good amount of volume but IMO they feel terrible.

    Best watched with headphones. Kinda hard to tell the difference with just my phone speaker for sure (using a Samsung S21)

      @BigJakeMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, the phone speaker doesn’t really show the differences very well!

    I use the M-steel strings
