The article screams an old quote: “less is more”. This game development cost was excessive… too many people involved, a lot of time of work and for little production value. Unfortunately we see this a lot in the entertainment industry as a whole. A lot of people, time and money doesn’t give a project any certainty of success. Usually the best management is minimalist, using tricks to give the impression that a project costed more than what it actually did, this game did the opposite.
Looks like crunchyroll had some money blow so they didn’t have to pay taxes on something else and acquire funimation 😂
genshin impact 1.0 start with limited content, before as big as today. next game is wuthering waves cbt also start with limited content.
for me i still play and support the game and give suggestion for better content (can be done from in game cust care menu) since i m big fan of one punch man ip one yusuke murata.
only 3 game one punch man in market. opm strongest turn based chibi, opm console and opm world which the only game that adapt semi open world on opm ip. how they enrich story outside canon manga and anime is needed for fans opm, yes they need more side story from popular hero and make more those side quest, and for end game disaster simulation currently enough not many player done it yet 36 star with period of 2 month. even big game like gensin end game only spiral abyys, so disaster simulation and maelstorm is enough for me
Issue is they own those games and they don't pay license fees. One Punch Man is really expensive because they have to pay for the license fees

I gave it a read as a chinese person who understand the language. One disclaimer is that I personally do not play this game, So I do not know what is true about the game is written here, but according to him:
"it cost us 26 yuan (chinese dollar) to do 1 pull, 120 pulls to guarantee weapon or character, so 26*120 = 3120. If we compare to genshin, where it cost 16 yuan for a single pull, 180 for character pity (less for weapon), 16*180 = 2880. This does not include that genshin's rate increases the more you pull, and in one punch man, you need 7 weapon to maxed, while you only need 6 in genshin."

Just curious. Do you guys open up your quest list at all? Cause I still have so much to do lol And battle sim/maelstorm has got me looking forward to building up my characters since the rewards in there are very nice. Just wandering, cause everyone is saying there's no content yet I have a massive backlog of questlines. So idk about you guys.

Also just to clarify, 200 people is not a lot of people for development of a game. This game does feel understaffed 100%.
For the development of a single game, seems like more than enough, but they most definitely have other projects too.

The game will end in some time then, it's settled. Even if a rich owner of opm ip would throw money at it to maintain a good image it wouldn't be sustainable on long term.
That's pretty sad ngl, the gameplay and the semi open world were really great, i was hyped for Amai Mask.
It's not completely a surprise though as this game seemed messed up since the start but i just hoped to get a good opm fight game. Because a hero nobody knows is average.
they should add a sistem to exchange the upper grade merit materials for lower ones , that and maybe change the daily gems for 150 or make it 3 daily quest 50 gems each , that and more events and the game should be in a much better spot ... at least for me but obviulsy could improve even more

I’m actually about to uninstall the game myself, the spring event was nice for silver but there’s still no content. Not really feeling it. This game flopped so hard. 😢
Sadly.. the game has huge potential like wth its OPM content is a content period. People stay for those. I already stopped playing and it pains mr everytime i wanna log in after a few minutes even during combat i just exit the game. Still hoping for a change ill be back probably a but longer if its still here n thriving or survive

Nobody in my server is grinding maelstrom lol I’m literally the only one this week that has put any points on the board i screenshoted it I couldn’t even finish team commisions last night because nobody was playing and if they were it wasn’t ones I needed even world chat is dead

I think Combat Maelstrom rankings killed the morale of other players. Extreme competitiveness comes at a price especially with Combat maelstrom being the endgame of OPMW and the rewards are rank based. It made people forget to build and explore their own characters because they are under the impression of "What's the point of playing when whales are destroying the Peak Ranking?". The truth is, even F2P players are ranking higher than some of the whales in the game. OPMW is the current gacha game with real gaming skills involved thanks to its incredible combat system. Also, whales are finding themselves using SR characters to gain more points and reach higher rankings.
We all know that Genshin's endgame is the spiral abyss. Spiral abyss is not highlighting the rankings of the players, the purpose is to clear it to gain ingame currency. That's why players of Genshin players can take their leisure time building and exploring their own characters without worry. The rewards of clearing it is the same for all players. Whales are spending to improve their gameplay and not to reach higher ranks than most of the players.
I'm currently ranging top 80-160(depends on which Character Type is the Meta for that week) in the peak rankings as F2P and currently considering to purchase the weekly and monthly card benefits to save up for the next banner. If you truly love the game, just continue supporting it.
What the game needs right now are more competitive content creators that understands the mechanics of the game and helps the player base to improve their gameplay. The developers are listening to the suggestions of the players. They might have messed up during the launch but they are clearly taking the right steps forward.
No real reason too, just do Maelstrom on day one and get all the power ups then redo it on the last day. Why waste food buffs and time?

@@Ghost_094 not really your not going to put out that much damage grinding maelstrom gives you points to boost your damage and composure reduction the benefits of playing throughout vs just the last day makes way more sense people just have no incentive to play barely get enough for a single Summon and that’s the main currency in game

Yeah unless they make it more attractive again , there is not that much incentive to pay money at all only in character that you like , there is no true pvp , so it doesn't matter what you play.

@@PayneBlade a game budget includes everything u mentioned so if it says 300 million rmb ( 40 mil usd accounting the time period) the total cost for everything is around that ball park. But if u just used common sense u would know genshin took 100 million to make and this game has no where near the quality or marketing compared to it. So if ur rep is telling u that kinda info everything u put out will need to be taken with a huge grain of salt.
@guy1nthecorner579 no cause genshin doesn't have licensing costs or architecture costs outside of their own company. Genshin is owned and created and hosted on/by Mihoyo. I work in this field tbh and I can concur that some of these costs from overseas to the west especially server fees, data centre's fees etc can cost an arm and a leg. I have a few dev teams under me and we draw up proposals and agreements all the time. I totally can believe this cost. Don't really need common sense when I work in the IT world and development side myself
@@PayneBlade Then how do u not know almost everything is included in the budget. The real cost for the game should actually be 30-35 mill considering IP usually cost 5-20 percent of the game. They probably also bought server in bundles like 1-2 years of services but it still isn’t 100 million

GO here - you can find me on first month leaderboards at rank 1. I have dropped the game. It is dead and wants to extrapolate maximum wealth. Maelstrom rewards suck. Scaling difficulty makes it impossible for f2p to reach certain ranks. Strong test is GATED by THOUSANDS of dollars and so is inaccessible by most players entirely. Leaving maelstrom only and dailies to do. Once memories were done - there was nothing left to do. 100 silver rewards in the mail are pathetic. The game has no incentive for people to play - beyond spending money. If you like to waste money , then it’s the game for you.

idk man, this seemed like a nothing-burger, also from the perspective of a supposedly low-level employee? But they clearly don't have accurate information. OPM World hasn't been in development for 18 years, the series wasn't even created until 2009, Perfect World Games is probably what he was referring to but even then I'm fairly sure they've been shelling games out for a LONG time and they've always been low to mid quality games. The whole thing seems kinda needless and comes off as the guy just ranting about the company cause he's bitter about how PWG has been running their company since 2004 (typical toxic workplace, etc.) So from the perspective of an employee I understand them complaining about the dev cycle and the lack of flexibility in regards to how much work needs to be done in order to succeed. Making games isn't easy, specially now days, almost all live service games are prone to failure, but this is a well known fact in the genre. This is why gatcha exists, mostly because all of these companies want to make that money but don't understand that putting out a half baked game with a solid IP isn't enough to make up for the development costs to catch up to what the players would be satisfied with. Altogether a nothing burger, has nothing to do directly with OPM:W, this was a criticism of PWG and PWG alone, a company that has been very successful for almost 20 years, blegh.
Let's just say I have spoken to an actual staff member active in this game and the reason I made this is because they have expressed how bad things are internally and with this game. This just summed it up without me stating the individual. I wouldn't have brought this up if I didn't have actual internal info
@@PayneBlade No I 100% believe things are bad, I mostly just think the article was kind of misleading. Too much exposition and opinion, not enough objectivity or analysis. It's a well known fact that PWG is on it's last legs as a company, and even worse that their are only 200 devs for this live service game. The most likely scenario here is either they get bought out by a larger company, sell the game and it's rights to another studio or the game just dies outright. They're most likely to sell the game off to cut their losses and still gain something.

I can tell u, devs pass too much comodities that don't love the real wold, i'm civil engineer, we work from 6 AM to 1-2 AM some days SO more than 17 hours working, working with all the sun in. Yout face, now a developers work sitting i'm great computer with all comodities of the world and u Say They have issues making a proper Game, really i work hard to spend money inside a fucking Game that is full of Bugs an probably stop sharong conten beacuse they are incompetent at their worl
